Sunday Driver | Being A Woman
Sunday Driver, a day to be myself. A woman first of all and a creative one at that (Yeah, yeah dil ke behlane ko...). Today is all about celebrating being a woman.
I present my thoughts on varied subjects from people I shoot or interact with on almost daily basis to perhaps some tidbits about life in Mumbai in the matchbox houses. Nah, I am not complaining about the size of the house for it is my palace.
However, today I bring you some women I work with, though I would have loved to bring you pictures of all the women I have worked it in the past two years, it is not conducive.
These pictures give glimpses of the women I am surrounded with. Strong, independent and inspiring. The varied roles they play in their lives be it a mother, sister, daughter, girl friend or wife, they carry the mantle with gumption and joie-de-vivre that is infectious.
Is being a woman all about being glamorous? Being intelligent? Being accomplished? Being human? Well, it is being all of that and some more. I feel it is about being more than one-dimensional. it is about being multi-talented. Yes, this happens because of not just the inner strength that a woman has but because she has support of a man in her life.
A father who instilled independence. A brother who stood by her as she fought her battle. A friend who believed she had more to give. A husband who saw more than just a wife. A son who tells his mother that she is the reason for his life. A man who knows the strength of a woman is what makes a woman be. Herself.
They say every successful man has a woman behind him. I say, every strong woman has a man beside her.
And each of these women that I know are so because they are themselves. I thank each one of them for being part of my life.
Happy Women's Day all the women I know. Celebrate being a woman.
Today, I also want to give special thanks to one guy. He has played drag queen in the show Qubool Hai for almost a year. Being a woman is a unique experience. And he has taken up challenge of dressing like a woman, to portray the emotions a woman feels. To top it he has broken stereo type about size and looks. Thanks Nirmal and I bow to your courage of taking up a tough role.
One of the most important women in my life besides my mother, is Gul Khan. She with her husband Gorky have given me opportunity to not just be myself but be my better self. They have not just given me a chance to re-build my life but have become anchor which keeps me grounded. Together they have made my life more fulfilling and complete. Thank you Gul and Gorky. As I garner strength from their support, I believe I am blessed to have them in my life.
Happy Sunday.
