Like all of you in the forum I am also deeply hurt Chand died, but I was thinking where did I go wrong in the analysis. Did I understood the story correctly and then it dawned. I felt I should have known AG always has a large canvas. His themes are never trivial. So this is what I understood now. Through Everest AG has taken up the battle that is raging over centuries. Man vs Nature.
It is actually the battle between Rungta the man who thinks with his money and power can abuse the nature the Everest and get away it. And how Anjali the girl in her pursuit to find an identity ends up indirectly supporting Rungta's cause.
Look from the beginning Rungta's Everest mission is doomed. He wants colonel Abhyanakar to head the expedition. Colonel tells no. It is Anjali who makes colonel agree for the mission. Not once colonel felt the need to ask the question why Rungta so readily agreed to sponsor another girl who is just a first time climber. Anjali too was happy she got such an opportunity so fast.
We need to understand Everest is fighting a battle in her own way to protect what has been entrusted to her.
First weather expert goes. But Rungta manages to get Khanna as weather expert
When the team comes first Naser get the alert. He talks to Rungta to back of. But he doesn't tell about Rungta's evil intentions to anyone else especially colonel Abhyankar. If Nassir had wanted he would have stopped Rungta then and there. If Serpeech story was known colonel would have backed of immediately.
Then the Lama tells Arjun not to go. It was intuition that man received from Everest that she will do anything to protect the serpeech. Team doesn't heed it
Rungta tampers the weather system and when the team is getting ready to go Nasir's team comes telling not to go, they somehow survived.
Colonel decides to start rescue mission. He excludes Anjali and goes. Everest gives the first warning when Neema dies. one in 8 persons kumbu glacier dies says the stats. Everest proves it is true.
But team heeds on to Rungta's delight. Understand that Everest now has started becoming a Durga. To destroy everyone in that mission. Everyone falls in the pit. But again Anjali comes and saves everyone giving impetus to Rungta.
Team faces avalanche. They survive it because each one of them wanted to live. Though shaken up they proceed. Khanna says he has never seen a team facing so many obstacles. But no one asks why the obstacles. Is it trying to tell them to go back and if they have to go back why.
This is what happens in real life also. Many people get into situations that looks perfectly harmless but have ulterior motives. Nature does give warning, but then man seldom heeds. So even if you are innocent if you end up supporting a criminal cause against a nature her fury wont spare you also.
Everest behaves quite ok when they reach camp 2. But when Arjun tries to sneak out it again shows its fierce nature taking away team's oxygen cylinders and injuring colonel.
But they continue and save Naser. Naser is sent back, Abhyanakar decides to continue Everest mission.
For the first time Everest gets her nemesis alone and she decides to attack him alone. Arjun faces a near death experience. Again Anjali plays an important role in rescuing him. Reena supports him and a reformed Arjun turns back.
Everest mission comes to a stop. But then Aakash takes it up without knowing the cause. Arjun also doesn't tell him. Again Everest sees the girl Anjali responsible for continuing the mission.
Now the team comes and sees Tara's body. Colonel is broken emotionally and decides to return. But asks Chand to continue. Meanwhile Aakash knows the real mission and disagrees to it. That's why we do not see any major issue in that Ridge.
At Hillary step Rungta blackmail Aakash to take the serpeech in the name of Anjali. To ensure Anjali summit Aakash agrees.
Rungta smiles, but by now Everest has become real Kali or Chandika and she decides to end it once and for all. Actually in the fall all the 3 are targeted. If Aakash couldn't pull up Anjali then he would never be able to face himself again. Climbing Everest tho door ki baat hai even if he survive. But Aakash is helped by Gaurav. Chand is the representative of hundreds of people who dies for no fault of theirs.
Now Everest is looking at the last weapon Rungta has aimed at her with all the fury. Aakash is at the receiving end because he is the one who is taking lead now.
That's why we are shown Shika Maa bowing before God himself to save her son to restore her faith.
We need to see how the battle gets closed

Awesome post!!!
Agreed that roongta is wicked...he had arjun to get him sarpech

the others were innocent, why attack them too? so to attack 1 person, everest also attacks other 8 people for no fault of theirs?

col had lost his wife years back? why did everest do this to her and him? they both were pure...merely seeking happiness

now chand has died for no fault of his...even though he was an ardent admirer of everest and respected it a lot

now col is fully justified in saying that he will never set foot on everest again...the mountain that destroyed his family, his life...

snatched his wife and son away from him...

and roongta, who is at the root of all this...is sitting there safely, warm and comfortable in his tent drinking hot coffee...what justice is this?

somehow i'm not able to accept everest's sense of justice at all...
if its man vs nature...of course nature is the winner...

man destroys nature, nature in turn, destroys him

but in this case, no one of the team...or at least who died or were injured...had done any harm to everest...so did they deserve the brutal treatment they received from nature?

I have a different view...
Chand's death is an accident.. an unfortunate accident...Such accidents are not impossible... I dont think it has to do with Everest Getting Furious for not catching her signals,..and casting an Ominous spell on all the climbers from the very beginning, to destroy them etc... NO.

I agree with you that this whole expedition has a theme of Man vs , Nature... and that is thoroughly established in The earlier episodes... Man has no control over Nature , and Chand's Death, sadly and treacherously, proves that.

To come to Chand's belief: ' everest sirf usi ko apne paas bulati hai, jo usse dil se pyaar karta hai..' This statement is metaphorically and Ironically true for Chand and others as well... It means if you are truly passionate about achieving your goals, and have a clear heart to pursue it against all odds, Victory is yours...Anjali, aakash, Col, Chand , sherpas are all good hearted pple , who are truly committed to their goals, both Personal and as a team... Thats why they had stuck together so long...And probably would have made it to the end, had they been lucky enough to get the dues of their perseverance and sacrifice. LiFE , like Nature, is unpredictable, and is sometimes unfair to those who are committed to it the most, That is the lesson Everst and Chand's death taught to the team...

Chand was unfortunate because , at the crucial time, his walkie stopped working and the battery died, and he couldn't be contacted by Khanna, who was continuously trying to tell him something, probably warning abt some weather changes. Similarly, Col. was unfortunate to lose Tara in the most unexpected and sad way possible. Thats how life is ! Unfair to some. EVEREST stands as a metaphor for life... it teaches you the best possible lesson to be a better person , and move ahead.

Roongta nd his terrible intentions doesn't signify much IMO..he already seems to come back to reality...And he has no options also, practically... he is a mere , small human being, and I think he is good enough for Reena to be tackled and brought to sanity!😆 all the other signs of the Mission like the Lama's advice , Yeti etc.. are local culture that are portrayed.

Your take is awesome!! I seriously want to agree with it!!
But killing off Chand just seemed so unjust! Colonel lost his wife and now... his son?? Why do good ppl have to face such troubles!

But I take AG is just portraying harsh reality, I always feel that good persons are put to tests and troubles, like common men.. and bad/corrupt ones enjoy previleges..

Anways! this is my view and Awesome post again!
