its amazing how this tradition is so popular in India. How some one can decide to stay for the next 50 years by meeting someone for one short conversation is so risky. It's what a lot of us have done but when u think back on it its so scary. Even though the parents try to get as much information as possible I find I could never do that now in this age and time. Specially scary for ppl coming in from abroad their information is so difficult to accumulate. And than when your daughters go abroad, it's always a worrying issue, as they have no family and friends to lean on.

I don't know about you but the arrange marriages I have seen weren't decided on one short conversations as they showed in the show. The girls that I know that had arranged marriages talked to their husbands for a while before they gave the nod. So modern day arranged marriage for me is like your parents just introducing the guy, you getting to know them for saying yes to marrying them.

As for the NRI marriage it is risky for fraud actually both ways. I know so many stories about how people from abroad got married in the home countries and as soon as their husband would come to Canada, or the USA they would leave their wives. There are so many cases like that. Their are so many cases like the ones you mentioned. Actually I always say to marry a person from your country to avoid fraud like that.

I have heard of girls saying yes after one or few meetings but sometimes its not easy to tell a fraud. As for marrying in the same country the choice gets super limited that's y ppl go to India. There is always destiny involved in such things,
