This question has been debated at various occasions.

Is Smoking Sheesha/Hookah Really More Harmful to Health than Smoking a Cigarette or merely a Hype?

There are individuals, groups, perhaps doctors and scientists who claim that smoking sheesha/hookah is in fact more harmful than smoking a cigarette. A few of them also claim that smoking one round of sheesha/hookah is equivalent to having smoked 10+ cigarettes.

What's your viewpoint?

I hate smokers generally but I guess since they are addicted nothing much can be done apart from discouraging them.
Hookah or cigarettes, it all depends on the amount of nicotine that goes into our lungs. Since a hookah can hold more tobacco I guess they victims tend to smoke much more at one go.

Honestly both the hookah and smoking cigarettes are bad but in my opinion I feel that smoking an hookah is worst. In an 60 minute Hookah session, smokers are exposed to 100 to 200 times the volume of smoke inhaled from a single cigarette. Smoking a hookah requires long drags compared to the short and sweet puff of a cigarette. In a 45 to 60 min hookah session you get the same amount of tar and nicotine as a pack of cigarettes. And furthermore in a hookah bar you are exposed to more secondhand smoke that smoking a alone with some cigarettes. But at the end of the day it doesn't really matter which one is better or worst because they will both get you yellow decayed teeth with ugly yellow nails & really bad smell with a shorter live expectancy.

Hookah with that pipe looks so ugly.
Some of my classfellows have smoked hookah several times, I think they're all healthy. Anyway, better to stay away from the seemingly harmful.

I do agree with both your viewpoints, @summer 3 and @Poseidon. However, I have heard news making rounds that sheesha/hookah is actually not very harmful and its effects are being exaggerated so that sheesha/hookah companies and businesses do not harm the sales of cigarette-producing companies. Have you guys heard of anything along those lines?

@ChristianDior - Yes! Never heard about that, but it's highly likely. Cigarette and tobacco industry have very powerful lobby.

Without a doubt, cigarette companies are very powerful in comparison to sheesha/hookah, which has just been discovered by a majority (although it's been in the market for ages). However, we cannot deny the fact that sheesha/hookah has taken over markets very rapidly and still going strong. In the Middle East, England, and the US, sheesha/hookah cafes exist in almost every quarter mile - and during the weekends, they're packed.

People who have already crossed their mid 20's have their faith on cigarettes. A case in point are the younger individuals (in their teenage) who are getting diverted from cigarettes to sheesha/hookah. This is where the threat lies. Because if the teens of today are not very fascinated by cigarettes and are more interested in sheesha/hookah - they will choose the latter option after being legal. Cigarette companies are worried about their future, not present.

Frankly most addictions are bad whether it is alcohol or smoking in one form or other.
Gambling addiction is even worse.
These days they have E Cigarettes ( no smoke battery operated) where a small doze of nicotine is taken. Still it is bad.

Exactly. Less harmful or more harmful, harmful is harmful. Avoid it. 😃

In fact long distance runners get high just breathing in lots of air.
Fortunately I get high breathing slowly ... a feel good factor 😆
