Why the sudden surge in Two hero/ Multi star movies?

Off late most of the Bollywood projects being announced have two heroes or multiple star cast. Srk- Varun movie, Brothers, Udta Punjab, Ae Dil hai Mushkil, Sid - Fawad/Arjun movie, Dil Dhadakne do, Roy and the list goes on. This is in definite contrast to past few years where we solo hero movie was a norm and maybe 2-3 movies a year that too mostly comedy had big starcast like Welcome ,No entry, Masti etc. But now it seems every actor is open to the idea of two hero movie covering various genres. So whats the reason for this? Most of the movies underperforming even big budget ones? Or the influx of newer heroes in past couple of years, who havent established a strong fan base yet and hence making two hero projects safer than solo ones? Or is it just that filmmakers have started exploring stories with multiple protagonists? Your take.

I guess its partly all the factors you have mentioned.

It is a good idea.

We get to see more number of butts in multi starrer movie.

It's a dignified way for older stars to move toward supporting roles. Same thing happened when Sanjay, Anil, Sunny were turning old.. They did movies like Kaante, Plan, Biwi No. 1.

I think the younger stars have no problem in working with each other...while the old stars had/have big egos..

Read Saif only has one day shoot for ADHM. Its a cameo.

But it already has Ranbir, Aishwarya, Anushka...enough to make it a multi starrer. Cameo bt Saif is an added bonus.

That way the makers can pull more audience to the cinema halls...
Fans of one star wil always be outnumbered by fans of 2 or 3 stars!!

It helps newer stars to establish base.

It helps newer stars challenge previously established stars too.

It's greater attraction for audience also.
