Yes those are definitely symptoms of depression at a more severe degree. But people can still be depressed and be able to go about their daily lives without anyone knowing. Hence the suffering in silence part come in. That's usually the case with suicidal individuals because most of time after a suicide attempt, or if it has been committed, family and friends were dumbfounded because they didn't see it coming. One of the side affects that I hear a lot in anti-depressive medication is that it might increase the risk of suicide. Reason being that if you are down to the degree of not wanting to do anything you literally don't even have the energy or possibly even the thought process to plan your demise. But once you start feeling a little better you think more clearly and yet still see how bad things are (only in your mind) and think about ending it all. That's why it's very dangerous for any type of mental health patients to stop their medical treatments, be it medication or therapy sessions, on their own.
