One thing I am sick of reading on this forum is that so and so actress is "bland" or "has no personality"...How does someone NOT have a personality? Everyone has a personality. Being soft spoken or introverted does not mean that you don't have a personality.
I feel like the Bollywood audiences only want actresses to be loud, bubbly and obnoxcious and if they aren't then they "have no personality"...
For example...people like Deepika and Katrina are often cited to not having any personality and being bland...but people think personalities like Sonam, Alia, Kareena, or Parineeti are "better" just because they are more in your face. Sorry but I don't agree with this weird obsession for females to be loud and OTT.
I am also tired of loud characters in films being appreciated more for their acting. I mean really? Most of Parineeti and Alia's work involves them doing the whole "Loud North Indian" bit - its getting really boring now. It was great in JWM...it was great in BBB...and even in Pari's first film but now...its time to move on!
And I also don't understand why this stigma is only relevant to females. I mean compare Ranveer to Ranbir or Siddharth - Ranbir/Sid are more on the quiet side, but I don't see anyone saying that they don't have a personality or that they are boring.

Bollywood is obsessed with loud and aggress people be it kajol, parineeti or ranveer.
also a loud character is always more loud than a reserved character!

it's all about screaming, shouting and doing bale bale here and if you don't have such a personality then you are boring.

Yeah that's fine. Even I find Sonam/Kareena's crap entertaining...,,,but that doesn't mean that the girls that are more reserved have no personality. Everyone has a personality - having a personality doesn't mean that you have to always be loud or outspoken.

Yup, everyone has a personality. Some have entertaining one while others have dull as a log personality like Shraddha and Sid. Perfect combo of boredom.

Its because loud obnoxious outspoken people equals entertainment. I guess bollywood finds the loud girls more appealing because they can make more headlines with them. I think they say stars that are quite or shy don't have any personality because some people mistake their reserved personality as attitude or them trying to be politically correct & neutral.
Like how many times has sonam kapoor made headlines with her notorious comments about everyone i remember when she called Ash an aunty and people were having heart attacks on fb. With Deepika apart from her TOI boobie controversy she doesn't really say much shit and hence people think she has an higher than thou attitude

I don't know about off-screen because when people in general say someone "has no personality" I don't think they refer to loud or quiet. I think maybe the lack of an effect offscreen gives them a "blah "vibe.
Amitabh Bachchan is reserved, but no one says he has no personality.

As for onscreen, I agree with you. Tired of "bubbly"
