Hi guys,
Interesting times for our serial eh? Newspaper articles swearing that the show is to be shut, the channel tweeting to confirm its definitely not being shut, the PR lady confirming via telephone that it is definitely going off air...and radio silence from the makers BUT the whole team is now on Twitter watching the #humsafars tag intently? And of course radio silence from the channel itself.

Now I love speculating and 'thin slicing', and I am going to do some speculation and 'thin slicing' now...so please, none of this is based on anything more than my own humble observations! 😊...

Firstly I noticed last week that that Sufi (who I think is Harneet Singh) has taken on not only Story but also the screenplay as well. This means she is now responsible not only for the characterisation and the general storyline but also for the script and scene set up. I have certainly noticed much more self talk, especially with Arzoo and certainly extremely well executed Saaz Scenes.

Secondly, was interesting to see Gorkyji helping with the execution of the Poison wala scene, working with Seemaji the director. He is the creative producer and I am sure involved at a high level, but surprised to see him getting involved in the details of the scene. Certainly this was the first time i have seen him in action this way.

Then we get a tweet from Aakaash Berry, who is part of the creative team commenting on trending on #humsafars. We also have Shivya suddenly joining (with Gorky and Harneet's help)...

Also, Shivaniji was happily tweeting photos until a few days ago and then suddenly there was radio silence. Next we know she is 'on holiday'...strange nah? The show is in the thick of things and one of the creative team goes on holiday?

Also, i feel that Nimisha Pandey, the Creative Head seems to be increasing her involvement with the HS team...she is spending time with Harneet, she is re-tweeting tweets on how the show shouldn't be closed.

So what I think is with all the online support Humsafars is getting (and i really don't think i have ever seen anything like it for an Indian TV show to be honest), the channel is in a fix. They were probably intending to finish up with HS but if they do, the backlash is going to be unprecedented, especially since they are being accused (and quite rightly so) of showing partiality towards certain PHs. I am pretty sure in the background, there is some serious convo's going on behind closed doors. Four Lions is not some altu faltu prod house...it has massive massive hits like Geet and Qubool Hai under its belt. I am sure they are more than capable of turning a show around but the channel needs to support them. I think there will be one of two outcomes:

1) HS stays but the timing will change. BUT the PH needs a guarantee from the channel that they will promote the show.

2) The PH shifts the show onto another more accomodating channel. The issue with this option of course is that from a reputation perspective, this will look very very bad on SONY. It also ruins their relationship with Four Lions and other production houses will think twice before signing deals with Sony if there shows will be sidelined because of a special relationship with a certain PH.

SONY are in a unique situation with this show. Unlike Itti si kushi, poonam dhillons show etc is that they were able to shut them down without much issue from the fan base. But here, the actual fan base is enormous and heavily online. They need to be very very careful how they handle this. As an international viewer, why should I pay to watch SONY entertainment television if the shows i enjoy are removed because they aren't popular domestically? If they want to be a truly global channel, then they need to think globally as well. its terrible for their image to ignore the international audience.

In the meantime, i think the PH are doing everything in their power to ensure that they deliver on this serial, hence the increased involvement by seniors and changes to the team/responsibilities.

We are all not stupid to be supporting a TV serial which has nothing special about it. All of us genuinely have better things to do with our time. There has to be something about this serial which is bringing about such strong emotional responses from so many people who would generally never bother about such things (me being one of them)...it is a matter of principal.

Anyways, whether HS stays on Sony or not...Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost...

Once again... a very thorough thought process involved in your very positive write up.👏 But VD... your title is misleading. Change it to "Pic abhi baaki hain" Or something of that kind na... (Just a suggestion of course. No offence meant)😳

I am not into Indian TV shows watching. No interest in either saas bahu sagas or monotonous love stories. More into Fox Crime and Star World. Had one experience with Sony and after that completely stayed away from the channel and the shows.

But this show brought me back. And it has kept me rooted to the screen and my laptop for the last four months. So yes, there sure is something that is making so many of us react so strongly at the mere thought of it closing down so abruptly.

I repeat what I said before. I don't want HS to be an infinite series show. What I do want is for them to stick to their story line and their characterization. And from the looks of it, in the last couple of weeks they are scrambling to do just that. The focus is once again becoming intense and the story is gaining momentum and grip. Hope it stays that way. So yes, I say all is not lost. Lets wait and watch.

Picture definitely abhi baaki hain.

Very well said VD 👏 I agree to everything you say as you have analysed the current situation to the apt.. I'm sure something is cooking among PH and channel behind close doors.. I remember the backlash that happened years ago with this PH and another channel over the show shutting down as the male lead quit and due to strong online fan base the channel had to shut down show as fans wouldn't want show to continue if male lead left.. Anyways let's wait and watch I have a feeling Humsafars won't go anywhere for now and if it does goes off air then it will be Sony's biggest mistake and stupidity to do this as this show is very popular abroad me living outside India knows how famous this show is and it has a lot of fan following for the leads as well.. Sony will definitely lose lots of international subscription I for once wouldnt bother to open Sony to watch any show of this channel as I only watch Humsafars from Sony

hey Suvi - title changed! 😊...mei kuch likne chali thi aur kuch aur hi likh diya, hence the title discrepancy...was planning to change it but then got side tracked with a call and hit the post button! Thank you for pointing it out!!

I was actually going to talk about how i think that the Senior guys of this PH are going to do everything in their power to save this show, even if it means they get involved personally and roll their sleeves up to sort things out! But then, i started writing from the heart and it went in a different direction 😊

I agree, should be a finite show...but still a long way to go in my opinion. This show should last at least a year or go down the seasons route.

From discussing the previous episodes n expecting the new ones ...see what these media n channel n PH have reduced all of us tooo...😭

Last few days all we do is giving a try in all ways to find out whether they have decided to pull off or not ...If the channel doesn't deny the already celebrating media friends are not going to sit back VD 😡

What an irony this show has landed into...right from the time slot change it is in news for the 0.3 ratings and sadly nothing has got them even a penny more than what they had earlier...

It started in Sep'14 and in just 5 months it has been in news for off air at least N times...the PH n actors who are aware of this would be feeling just SICK about this am sure

No offense to tht show - but who the hell are those gang of aunties who so like to see the marriage rituals in a TV show for 7 days in a week with only dance numbers and tht too for an hour everyday 😡😡😡

I find it abs**tely CRAZY 🤪...and the new show marking a comeback of the actor back to sonytv like seriously🤔 i see tweets this morning saying tht actor is HOT in romance😲😲 ...I feel like crying aloud 😭but my kiddo is sleeping so will control

We have tried our best as part of this fandom VD...am now running in a peace mode attacking sonytv n gauravs with all polite tweets ...i will give it a day because usually this guy responds if it is a rumor or something ...if none reply then we got the answer...Feb end the deadline it is !!

I am just hoping HarshadChopda n Shivya just bounce back with a comeback at the earliest by mid of this year again to make us all meet again at one place...

@HC fans might know how long does he take a gap between his projects ? I know the last one was 2 yrs but tht was for a reason he claimed ...before that was he really quick on a comeback ?...do clarify guys !!

Loved the positivity in ur post...am still hopeful about the show...coz it does have a lot of potential...only wish the channel realised it

Right now also am watching filmfare n u hv only promos of cid ,crime patrol , that ronit roy show, aahat n the new upcoming shows...not a single promo of humsafars 😡 ...filmfare is watched by a lot of ppl in India...it would hv been a great way to popularise humsafars by giving out a promo...but no...how I hate u Sony 😡

VD 👏 Awesome analysis as usual !
@red : I am sure they did not expect it, it is unprecedented. I said in another thread today that Sony will lose viewership if they shelve this show. Most of the HS fans will not return any time soon to Sony and worse they will get negative comments on social networking which might make them look worse. Once it is shelved (God forbid!) no one will remember that it was for the TRP's ...all that they will remember is that Sony stopped this show which was so loved, normally we remember only the impact and not the cause.

@blue : This is the most likely scenario. This is a win win for all , the channel , the PH and of course us. The channel gains respect and viewership, the PH gets to show what they really wanted to instead of compromising on the actual story line and we get to enjoy it . There is nothing wrong with having a grey hero. It might be the first time on Indian television ... but so what ? I hope the channel is asking themselves this question !

@green : This is a lose lose for Sony but a win for another channel and us. Issue though is will any other channel be willing to experiment ? Will they accommodate a show which has not drawn enough viewers on Sony ? This way the PH also loses because another channel may ask for another genre change and they butcher it even more. Its an interesting option but its not very probable.

@black : Sony are indeed in a complicated situation, but the way they handle it will show what they want, a good reputation or just TRPs , given the fact that there is no guarantee that any other show at that time slot will fetch them more TRPs.😕

And yes , we love the show for many reasons and we are not blind. Most of us watch it not just for one actor or actress but because this show has touched our heart in someway or the other.
The twittion petition has 143 signatures now, and it is on the 6th position of the highest signed petitions this month and today is just the 8th, I am sure we will make it to the top 5 there also.

But all said and done ... I agree with you , picture abhi bhi baki hai 😉
