Celebrity Worship Syndrome - can we call it a disease, obsession?

šŸ˜› Someone special inspired me for this topic. It seems like fan worshipping has gotten out of control on IF. So much that do we need a doctor to visit this forum and give us a checkup? It is okay to admire a celebrity. But worship can be unhealthy. Sometimes even fatal or criminal. 😲 šŸ˜†
Is celebrity worship syndrome a disease or obsession? Please share your thoughts.

BTW this is a very serious issue
with celebs like anushka and deepika opening up to depression and anxiety- members here should open up about their condition too.
Many won't even be knowing they have it
so better to gain awareness and take the much needed help. Therapy from a psychologist or your own self can be beneficial
better late than never!
GWS to all of us
This needs more awareness!

I feel it is escapism
lack of happiness, self respect or may be both
you cannot do much to make yourself happy so you obsess with some one successful to gain that happiness through that some one
in the process of doing it- you enter a vicious cycle where your obsession begins to grow
unfortunately a mental condition's worst symptom is that there are barely any- you don't even know when a mere likeness for a celeb has turned into a full time obsession
but the thing is that it is providing you happiness- a deepika padukone (example) winning an award, makes you smiling all day- you escape your problems. That is making you happy and you just don't look beyond that, you don't realize how sad you are in reality to be happy over some one who doesn't even know you exist.
and we all are greedy for happiness. In the process we rarely realize where the happiness is coming from- we just associate it with a celeb
To accept it can be a good start

Very well said. 😊 This forum is meant for fun. These people act like it is life or death. I don't think people will admit they have a problem. It has to come from within. I feel like DR Phil. Maybe you can start a talk show. šŸ˜† Anyway I like Whitney and Madonna. But posting threats or insulting members. That is to extreme. 😲

😳 😊 you always are cool addictedlove. Either you like a celeb or you don't. It is extreme to make threats. People take this forum to seriously. 😃

the reason they make threats is coz we are taking away their source of happiness
for a normal member- any person winning an award or being insulted- they would write 1, 2 comments and move on, enjoy their lives
but for CWS members- they may spend days being happy over a rankat getting married (example)
since the associated happiness with a celeb is high- the sadness/anger when some one says something negative is high too
which is why they go to the extremes of threating to kill some one- coz they feel endangered that the source providing them happiness is being attacked
if I am happy with my life- would I bother boiling my blood over an xyz star?
they have formed a full relation with that celeb- invested so much in him/her and for them to break this relation is hard..

I have even seen people call Aish granny and aunty. Do I say anything? 😲 Celebs won't care if fans bash them. That member is probably bitter about Deepika. Have you been attacked yet on this forum?
