I had a lovely friend on IF who was a great ghazal lover. He passed away a few years back and we used to call him Khaty Bhai. He loved the legendary Ustad Mehdi Hassan.

Recently another buddy posted this song for him , sung by Ghulam Ali.

Ah yes, I remember you talking about him when I was active too. I unfortunately never got to interact with him, but I always feel connected to him through your remembering of him. This ghazal is so sad of Jagjit Singh, but I love it too. I actually cannot listen to it without cry!

Thanks sis. Yes Jagjit Singh had such an early demise. He was a great guy and loved his bhajans too. It was quite a shock.

Some Ghazal singers never get enough sleep and rest and some are so used to drinking too.

Yes, I too was quite shocked when I learned of his death. I remember I was sad for quite some time by his death. It's interesting how we can be so affected by people we've never met.

I didn't know that about ghazal singers, but I do know the Edgar Allan Poe used to drink and most his work was created while intoxicated. Some souls are very troubled and alcohol and drugs bring them peace. (I'm not condoning such lifestyles, but I cannot judge a person's situation without know what led them there in the first place.)

Feeling high they say is due to rush of endorphins.

I feel great by drinking tea sometimes, or even just breathing fresh air slowly.😆

But generally ghazals and certain songs does lift up our spirits; they say too much sentimental songs can make us dreamers and melancholy too !

so we need happy songs too cheer us up.

Yes, it's scientifically proven that listening to happy music raises your spirits. Listening to music can heal a lot of mental issues.

Yes, it's one of my favorite "newer" songs. I quote newer because it's not that new, but in comparison to my favorite songs it's newer. 😆 This is also a nice one:

Yes a good song is a good song. Ghazals are basically an expression of deep sentimental emotions too. These days many are also remixed and improvised with modern instruments.
