Every film can't have a 45-year-old man playing a 22-year-old and romancing a 23-year-old: Dibakar

January 21, 2015 aditi.chandra07 3052 reads 19 comments

Dibakar Banerjee is gearing up for the release of his detective movie "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!" in April. The director along with the lead actor Sushant Singh Rajput launched the trailer of the movie today.

The director expressed his views on the kind of films being made in Bollywood and asked that if every film will have a 45-year-old man playing a 22-year-old man and romancing a 23-year-old woman, then where will other interesting stories go?

At the event he was asked if he was confident about his detective film as the genre that has not really worked in Bollywood in the past, he said, "I have never been confident in what I do. I just know that I was dying to make it since after Khosla Ka Ghosla'. And slowly I gathered the power, the knowledge and the resources to make it. We have done our best and then gone five steps ahead. My dream was to see Byomkesh Bakshy on screen, because he is an immortal Indian character."

"We have everything in Indian literature that can be out own icons. Also if every film will have a 45-year-old man playing a 22-year-old man and romancing a 23-year-old woman, then where will other interesting stories go?" he added.

What are your thoughts on this?

I also liked what he said to Anupama Chopra in this clip about the perception of beauty in Bollywood.

What he said is true (though there are exceptions)...It's not just BW...it's all of Southeast Asia. Beauty = fairness. We'd find few dark-skinned actors in BW being big stars.

Every word true 👍🏼

Though there is no harm in showing a 45 year old man romancing a 25 year old girl the problem lies in trying to make this middle aged man look like a teenager.

Fail to understand who are the audience rushing to watch such films where the cracks are so visible.

The positive is that a group of highly talented directors, scriptwriters and technician have entered the industry recently and have been accepted whole heartedly for the kind of films they are making.

We need to move on to fresh talent on the screen too not just behind it.

I think besides the fact that it's just weird...he's also just saying that there's no real creativity in 45 year olds playing 20 year old loverboys and doing love stories. It's the same thing they used to do before. 😆

a 45+ can romance a 23 yr old. but not some childish romance, where the hero does jumping jack or flirts with the 23yr old heroines skirt.
take a leaf from yash chopra's lamhe...sri falling for 40+ anil, or cheeni kum..a 60+ falling for a 30+.

That's why BW would never make your biopic.
