I have a long list of male characters I've admired across various mediums and languages. They all have their own unique characteristics but in general my favourites are ones who are inherently broken, passionate men. There is something about them which draws me in and till the time I'm into the story, I feel a strong sense of empathetic attachment to them. While such characters are a lot of fun to decipher in the fictional world the writer creates, I'd probably wish to avoid them in this universe, even the ones who are not brash or crude or arrogant. Something about their defense mechanism makes them a little too 'larger than life'.

But Akaash, he has these set of personality traits but if I were to come across him in my life, I would love to befriend him and introduce him to my close ones. He is an amazing friend, he hold immense respect for everyone, he would go to great lengths to take care of the ones he loves, he is so grounded, he is 'teddy bear' adorable...I can go on and on. I see no reason why I should not feel the same way for Akaash as a real person as I do for him as a figment of someone's imagination. And therein lies the difference, the reason why he is so refreshing.

P.S. I don't for one minute believe that Col chose Akaash over Anjali because of his gender. Could Brig Rawat's words be taking a toll on him after all?

Aakash has not allowed his insecurities to bog him down or he does not pass the buck of his insecurities to anyone else.
He accepts what has happened and that is what makes him different and admirable. Accountability is a trait which we find in very few men.
I can tell one thing. This boy was given the right values by his parents as well as by Shika Maa.
