The buzzing streets of New York's Times Square saw the promos of Indian TV show "Mahakumbh- Ek Rahasya, Ek Kahani" being played out for a potential overseas audience.

It is a case in point that while Indian television is growing out of kitchen politics and run-of-the-mill concepts, promotional activities are also getting bigger.

The mytho-thriller, which airs on Life OK, was promoted at Times Square as well as few other parts of Manhattan, said a statement from the channel.

The overseas campaign was executed with the support of 21st Century Fox, a conglomerate of Fox Star Studios, owned by Star Network.

"Considering the storyline of 'Mahakumbh...', the show has a lot of references to an international conspiracy related to Mahakumbh, it was important for us to grab attention of our loyal and potential overseas audiences.

"The promo was strategically screened on Times Square in order to reach out to the masses in one go. While 'Mahakumbh...' was our first attempt to gain worldwide presence, we will continue to focus on international markets in future as well for our upcoming shows," a channel spokesperson said in a statement.

"Mahakumbh...", that went on air Dec 15, is a thriller about a boy who has supernatural powers. The gripping series features actors like Gautam Rode, child artist Siddharth Nigam, Seema Biswas, Payal Rajput and Manish Wadhwa.

Nice to hear that Life Ok and production team of MK are leaving no stone unturned to make the show a bigger success not only in India but also overseas. It will definitely work in favour of the show and the hard work of the Mk team and all the star cast would definitely be paid off.

Thanks for sharing this amazing article with us Linda...😊

This show is amazing and has the potential to attract overseas viewers! How I wish it was subtitled so my husband can watch it too. He knows NO hindi at all. Even I am struggling with understanding some of the language as it is complex. I am already an overseas viewer who is a GR fan and that is why I started to watch MK!

MK has a lot of potential and I think it can appeal to an international audience, who don't know anything about indian culture! It also has an international star cast! So the potential is there! The acting and production values are excellent. Especially the Banaras sequence!

Can't wait for more as each episode is as good as the other!

I have a friend who went to New York over the weekend. She said she was awestruck to see Mahakumbh being promoted there. She said that in pictures the TV looks so small but really it's about as big as a medium sized truck. And to see Gautam Rode and Seema Biswas and other actors (she didn't too many names) on such a big screen made her feel she was standing in some Indian community abroad. And she wasn't the only one ogling. She said there were a lot of Indians and people from other ethnicities checking it out as well. She liked it.

I feel it was a great move to promote the show abroad. If so many people are noticing the show is bound to do well.
