Sampoornam - "Anjali, are you ready?"
Anjali - "Ready amma."
Sampoornam to Saroja , fifth time -"Anni, are you sure you donot want to come?"
Saroja -"Very sure, Sampoornam. Vijaya and I will manage here."
Anjali smiles to herself, Athai, only if you knew who else is going, you would be ready before us, but I can't allow that; Can I?'
Sampoornam and Anjali leave for the bus stand with their modest travelling bags. They board the bus for Wallajabad, from where they will take a bullock cart to their village, Kaliyanoor.
Two days earlier Sampoornam family ex - kanakku pillai had called up.
"Amma, you did not come last year; atleast this year you should bring your daughters and marumaga pullainga for Pongal festival to our village", he had requested Shampoornam earnestly.
Anjali, being the smartest of the clan had coerced her mother to agree. She desperately needed a family get together and wished to bond with her brothers -in - law. Luckily Saroja and co had been away at the time of the phone call and Anjali had cleverly blocked out the full details to her aunt.
Anjali inhales the breath of fresh air as the bus crosses the city limits. She takes her mother's cell phone and calls Sathya.
"Akka, we are in the bus. No changes in the plan, right?"
"Illaidi Anjali", Sathya laughs merrily. Although Sampoornam had invited Prakash's entire family, only Sathya and Prakash were coming. Anjali silently rejoices her prayers were being answered. Although she didn't mind Prakash's parents or Ragini, she didn't want anyone else from the house. As luck would have it, Ragini had become sick with vomiting (believe, this is because of some genuine food poisoning 😃, the other sickness may come later, perhaps after 2 or 3 months, who cares now? 😉) and her parents decide to stay back. Kumar is going to Sabarimala and Gayathri had already left on a jolly trip with her sister. 'Thappichome, saniyangal varalai' , Anjali touches her lips and then her chin in silent prayer.
"Athai, mama we are leaving", Sathya and Prakash fall at his parents' feet and take their blessings.
"Jollya poittu vaanga."
"Enanga, please donot get angry I am asking again. Why can't we take the bus?" Sathya looks pleadingly.
"I am not getting angry, but the answer for your question is a final NO", Prakash sits on his bike. Sathya hops on hesitatingly behind him leaving a small gap between them. With one hand, she holds on to their bag and the other she holds on to the handle below the seat. Prakash deliberately accelerates and brakes in succession that narrows the gap between them. He whistles mischievously and a happy Sathya playfully hits on his shoulder, before placing her hand on his shoulder.
"Mama, you and Sujatha should also come with us", Dharani invites Devaraj.
"Illaima, I want to enjoy my new found freedom. Sujatha and I will celebrate Pongal here."
Suresh kick - starts his bike and Dharani climbs in behind him. She keeps waving her hand at Devaraj and Sujatha till they disappear from her sight.
She takes her mobile phone and informs Anjali that they have left the house. Her next call is to Sathya. The sisters promptly convey the rendezvous point to their respective husbands. Perungalathur eagerly awaits the two motor cycles carrying the young couples.

The motor bikes meet in front of Akash bhavan. After exchanging pleasantries, the four of them have hot coffee before continuing their journey. As the sisters wait for their men to bring the bikes out, a siren wailing ambulance pass them in the opposite direction. Sathya and Dharani are shocked to see Anjali sitting in the front seat of the ambulance. The sisters panic. Prakash calms them down. All four of them individually try Anjali's phone. But she doesn't pick up any of the calls.
Suresh - "Did you check the check the name of the hospital on the ambulance?"
Dharani -"Mama, I saw" and she names the hospital.
Suresh - "I know the location, let us go."
They take a U turn and travel back in the same direction from where they came. As the hospital is close by, they reach in ten minutes time and rush inside.
It is Anjali who spots them first and she is surprised.
"Akka... mama... what are you all doing here?"
"What happened to amma?"
"Nothing."
"Then why were you in the ambulance? You crossed us near Perungalathur", Dharani anxiously asks.
Anjali - "Please calm down. Amma is fine. There was an accident involving a motorbike and our bus. Amma has come here for donating her blood to the bike fellow."
Sathya and Dharani heave a huge sigh of relief.
Prakash - "Why were you not picking up phone?"
Anjali sees her mobile has missed calls from all four of them.
Anjali - "Sorry to all of you. In the blaring sound of the ambulance siren, I didn't hear the ringing."
All of them wait outside the ward where Sampoornam is lying down giving life to another youth.
(Giri's note to readers - serial la thaan eppa paaru hero heroine kku edhavadhu prachanai... namba kadhai jollya pogattum... so no major problems for them... but kutti kutti speed breakers appo appo varum 😃 )
Sampoornam has her fruit juice, rests for sometime and comes out after a brief rest.
She displays all the pearls in her mouth seeing the daughters and sons - in -law. Readers, there is no point in going into another repeat of lengthy narration, but please understand that Sampoornam is updated.
They all come out of the hospital. The victim's family thanks Sampoornam and blesses her children. What more Sampoornam want?
As they stand there exchanging 'thanks' and 'wishes', an attender comments, "Bike eduthaa indha paavi pulaingalukku road ah rules ah, oru mannum kidaiyadhu. Saavaruthukkunu thane bike ottaraanga!"
So it is no surprise, Sampoornam's face droops down when she sees both her maapillai's had brought bikes. Looking at the worried faces of all the women, Prakash and Suresh decide to park their bikes in the railway station parking lot and take the bus to Walajabad.
As it is already late, they board the next available bus which is crowded. Sampoornam manages to get a seat at the back. Sathya and Prakash move to the front as backside area gives more jerks pushing the passengers up and this is not good given the health condition of Prakash.
The next two hours is spent in bus travel - ippadi dulla ore sentence la mudichidalaam. Illaina perusa description seiyalaam.
Below are descriptions of few possible permutations and combinations of happenings... yaaru yaarukku edhu venumo adhai padichikonga
1) Suresh and Prakash get two adjacent seats and they forget their surroundings as they immerse in career and business talk.
2) Suresh and Dharani get adjacent seats and they promptly go off to sleep👏.
3) Sathya gets a seat next to a lady going to Kanchipuram for silk saree purchase and she dutifully forgets her husband and engages in saree discussion the full time of the travel😃.
4) Suresh and Anjali sit together and Dharani looks longingly at her husband from behind.
5) Anjali and Dharani and Sathya get a three seater and discuss about Saroja and Vijaya.
6) Sathya is pushed to the back whereas Prakash is pushed to the front; he and the driver engage in vetti ooru nyayam ( this is Giri's personal choice 😆 )
7) Suresh gets a lone seat and during a sudden brake, Dharani lands in his lap and she comfortably settles there😉.
8) The crowd pushes Prakash and Sathya close together and as he protects her from getting squeezed by others, they exchange love notes through their eyes and MV😛.
9) Repeat of the above with Suresh and Dharani ( idhu imagine panna konjam kashtama thaan irukku 😆 , irundhaalum ivangalukku yaarum chance eh kudukalai... naamalavadhu kudupome 😉
10) Sampoornam sits flanked by her sons - in - law on either side. She keeps feeding them with snacks specially prepared by her, while her daughters stare at them angrily.

Bus reaches Walajabad and they all get down from the bus.
