In another historical book that I read in library it said that salim waited almost an year before getting approval. It said Akbar was not in favour of salim marrying any non royal girl neither he wanted marriages of close relations like man bai's neice. I cannot remember authors as I read it a couple of years back you can check library for an indian author

By the way, in the said book, it says Salim got violently enamoured by Zain Koka's "Daughter" .
He had already married Zain Koka's niece. :)

Well going from the last episode i watched akbar told his son to marry who ever he wants and jo begum unch nich me vishwas nahi karti well in ja yeh log history badal denge wont be surprised if akbar himself will make arrangement for his ladla son to marry kali,going by all the nautanki we are given lately ,
