Family comes first for Bollywood
According to a survey, 76 per cent Indians attach a lot of importance to parental approval. DT finds out if this holds true for Bollywood too or not.

Yes, for most of the happening kids from Bollywood, it's family and family values that come before anything else. For them, it's parents, brothers and sisters who stand by them during tough times, and happy times. Bollywood youngsters are only too proud to admit that they owe their success to their parents.

While the Deols – Sunny, Bobbyand dad Dharmendra share a rare camaraderie both on screen and off it, Esha Deol shares professional tidbits with mom Hema Malini. For Hrithik Roshan nothing is more important than working with daddy Rakesh. Vivek Oberoi confesses that family approval matters above everything else. Ditto for Tusshar Kapoor who says that his family's support has made him what he is today. And Shilpa Shetty's family has always been around during her highs and lows.

Aditya Narayan, singer-anchor, says, "My parents have given me approval for my work and that makes my life smooth. Till I was 15, my parents took all the decisions for me. But, after I went to the UK for my higher education, I became more responsible. Now they trust me completely."

Sister Ameesha Patel might not have forgiven her parents for mismanaging her finances, but brother Ashmit Patel swears by parental support, "My parents have given me lots of freedom and they still advise and guide me. Parental approval is important to me and it always will be."

Television's rising star Prachi Desai, all of 19, says, "Keeping my parents happy means everything to me. The thought that my parents are with me gives me immense strength."

Actor Hansika Motwani says she owes her success to her parents. She adds, "My parents have put in a lot of efforts for me. Whatever I am and wherever I am, is because of them. I won't do anything to displease them."

The parental nod is important for everything, including relationships. Says Prachi, "I won't go ahead in a relationship without my parents' approval. If they object, they will have their reasons and I'll respect that."

In urban India most youngsters actually want their parents' nod before making crucial decisions.

Playback singer Anushka Manchanda admits that parental approval means a lot for her, "I want my parents to be happy for me, to be proud of me. For that, I am ready to go that extra mile."

Like we said, in India, family comes first. 😛
