Be it the young and chirpy teenager Rashmi in comedy serial Family No 1, the vivacious and outspoken Janaki Sehgal in Star TV's Jeet, or a typical bahu in Ekta Kapoor's Koi Apna Sa, Aparna Tilak has done it all. Aparna even tried her hands at Bollywood with Bipasha starrer Footpath.

She is currently seen in Tony and Deeya Singh's Left Right Left. The actress talks to Anil Merani on Left Right Left and returning to saas-bahu genre.

Don't you think your character, Shalini, gets sidelined in Left Right Left thanks to Rajeev Khandelwal and Gaurav Chopra?
See, the show has an ensemble cast of 20 actors. So there will be times when I'll be under the spotlight and other times when I might be sidelined. But I'm quite happy with my role. Also, there's a separate track between Captain Shalini and cadet Yudi.

Is there something brewing between the two?
As far as Shalini is concerned, Yudi is her protg, and she has a soft corner for him. "Audiences aren't yet ready for a relationship between an older successful woman and a younger man"

He's quite weak, mentally, and she tries to watch out for him.. to increase his confidence. But he mistakes her sympathy and friendship for love.

Any chance at all of a full-fledged love story between the two?
No, because our audiences aren't yet ready for a relationship between an older successful woman and a younger man.

They'd rather watch a 60-year-old man woo a young bimbette. Having said that however, things might change.

If someone says, cut the crap guys, and show us what can really happen, I'm game. Let's face it, love and lust know no age.

Let's rewind a little.. why did you accept Left Right Left?
I've already done a couple of saas-bahu shows (Jeet and Koi Apna Sa). It was time to move on to something else. Also, this show gave me a chance to play someone in uniform.

So, saas-bahu shows are off your radar? "I took Left Right Left as a break but I'm always ready to come back to saas-bahu shows."
No way. Family dramas are the rage now. I took Left Right Left as a break but I'm always ready to come back to saas-bahu shows.

But such shows don't give you much creative satisfaction, do they?
Look, I'm here to work, not to indulge my creative side. If I want to do that, I'll have to produce my own show.

What's your favourite genre?
Comedy. I loved working in Family No 1. I think I can make anybody laugh.

Any Bollywood aspirations?
I've worked in Footpath, a couple of years back. I didn't pursue films because I got quite a lot of work on television.

The small screen has become big these days.. why do you think film bigwigs Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Suniel Shetty are trying their hand here?
