i think lily and james make the perfect so-called "soul mates" couple!! š³š
i don't kno why...but i don't think lily and snape would ever make a good couple...no matter how much he loved her...he loved the dark arts the same...and if he got her...he would NOT change!! soo him gettin seperated from his love because of dark arts made him change!! it made him WANT to and CHOOSE to change...and the choices we make are waht matters!
so i think for snape to realize his mistakes...and for him to become a better person...lily had to be james! š³
and plus...james and lily were always meant-to-be!! š ...and...james NEEDED lily for him to change!! if he hadn't got lily he would REMAIN as arrogant as ever!!
so i think all in all...snape not getting lily made him a better man...and james getting lily made him a better man!! (i kno this sounds weird...buh that's how it was!! š)
and soo...my SOUL-MATES-COUPLE would be LILY and JAMES!!

Good point. However, I would like to add that, James already had deflated his head before he starting going out with Lily, so I would like to think that he changed...not only for Lily(although that was a catalyst as well) but also for the world..Voldemort was taking over and they needed people like James up there and fighting and thats what he did!
He actively fought against Voldemort and must have risked his life many times during the first war, as opposed to Snape, who was a Death Eater.
There is also the fact, that James CHOSE to save his sworn enemy and risked his life to protect him from a dangerous werewolf. Snape may like to think that he did it for his friend Remus, but he still *did* it, didn't he?
As opposed to Snape, at that point, who was more than ready to sacrifice Harry and James, as long as he got Lily safe and alive. He wasn't even ashamed of doing such a thing at that point.
This, then, is why Lily ultimately chose James and not Snape, becase at the time, James was always the better man!
People tend to forget this thing!
Snape needed Lily's DEATH as a catalyst to change, while James changed on his own, while she was happily alive and kicking!
