CHAPTER EIGHT

Raman understood his mother's concern but would only hope his mother would understand his. Ruhi was showing little glimpses of her old self and was slowly coming back to the old cheerful Ruhi they knew. Raman just wanted to keep it going until his daughter was strong enough to tell him what happened.

'No I will not allow that. How is going away from her family going to help her get well Raman? You have to understand Raman that she is ill she needs me I mean us to take care of her'' said Santosh.

'Come on Mamma my daughter is not ill just traumatized and I have to figure out what happened to her. I can't just sit around waiting and hoping if she becomes better. Now Ishita...''

'Ishita is not a psychologist that she will cure her. Oh My God Raman ever since you remarried it seems like she is taking all the decisions for you. Can't you make up your own mind? She wants to take my grandchildren away from me.'' Interrupted Santosh

'Oh come-on Mamma stop being overly dramatic it doesn't suit you. Besides Ishita is just trying to help and it had been working until... Anyway I think going to Mumbai is a good idea and we are going.'' Replied Raman

'Raman please just do not take her away from me I will be lonely without her. Let Ishita go to Mumbai alone we can take care of Ruhi. We have been doing that even before she showed up you know. Just be patient she will be okay'' Said Santosh

'Be patient? I am sorry Mamma I cannot. I watch my daughter scream and wet the bed most nights and there is nothing I can do about it because she will not talk to me. She cries and I cannot even figure out what to do to make her feel better. I have someone who is willing to try and help figure out what is wrong with her, someone who for some reason my daughter seems to find solace in and you're asking me to let that person go away?'' Raman could not recognize the woman standing in front of him because that definitely was not his mother

'Look Mamma I understand we are all worried but Ishita is only trying to help and whether you want to admit it or not she has done a lot for both my children. She thinks this will help I will listen to her because she has earned the right.'' Raman said

'Fine do as you want. I am not important anymore. What do I care anyway I am not as important as your wife now am I?'' said Santosh as she cried hysterically

'Mamma please if you do not feel comfortable with Ruhi going with Ishita and me then you can join us otherwise I am not in the mood to get into all of this. Whatever your reservations are they have been noted but it is not going to change the fact that we are going to Mumbai.You're always telling me to be my daughter's strength and this is me being exactly that. Now if you'll excuse me I am going up stairs to tell my daughter.'' And with that Raman left the room

Santosh could not believe that this was the same Raman she had raised. Her son would never say no to her no matter what and now because of this Ishita everything was falling apart. She was still grumbling under her breath when she heard someone say

'Don't you think you are being a little selfish here Santosh?'' asked her husband

'How long have you been standing there?'' she asked a bit surprised

'Long enough to know you're at it again. Santosh your kids have grown up and they have responsibilities they have to take care of. Raman has a lot on his plate and as a mother you should be trying to encourage him not burden him the more.'' Said Mr. Bhalla

' So while his wife is busy taking away my granddaughter I should be happy about it.'' Said Santosh

'If you are so worried that she will do the wrong thing then just go with them and stop creating a fuss'' Mr. Bhalla replied

'What about you? Who is going to take care of you while am gone?'' she asked

'I am a grown man I can take care of myself. Besides I cannot leave my business right now with all the new laws being laid down by the government the export business is becoming tougher and tougher. The supervisors are coming and I need these permits to go through so I have to be here. .'' Replied Mr. Bhalla

'Okay fine do not give me your business history I do not understand it. I will tell Simmi to come with me and Romi will be here to help you out. That is final no debating'' said Santosh

Mr. Bhalla looked at his wife as she walked over to the closet to start packing and could not help but worry about Raman and Ishita. He knew his wife too well to know that she loved her children a lot, may be too much and whenever that relationship was threatened she became a person he did not like.

She was a good mother and grandmother but she was never going to accept the fact that Raman just put his wife above her. Either way Ishita was going to pay for that.

Ishita was pacing up and down the room restlessly not knowing what was going to happen if Raman talked his mother. She had a very good gift of reading people and she could tell she was not her mother-in-law's favorite person. She could understand why Santosh was the way she was especially when it came to Ruhi. Santosh had taken care of Ruhi ever since she was born and to have someone else come in and threaten that relationship was something that would get anyone even Ishita herself boiling.

Ishita however genuinely believed that Ruhi coming to Mumbai with her was going to work out.

She heard Raman walk into the room and walked over to him desperately asking

'What did she say? Did she agree? Was she angry?''

'Okay calm down and at least give me a chance to answer'' said Raman

'Oh sorry'' said Ishita

'She said yes, of course she agreed and just a little bit.'' He replied

'What is just a little bit'' Raman asked

'Just a little angry but she will get over it. That should not worry you.'' He replied

'Are you sure?'' she asked genuinely worried

'Yes I am sure. Now stop fussing and tell me where Ruhi is'' he asked smilingly

'She is in her room watching cartons.'' She answered

'So should we go tell her.'' He asked getting excited

'Uuuhhh sure why not'' She answered as they went to Ruhi's room

'Ruhi can you switch off the T.V, we have to tell you something.'' Raman said

'Is everything okay?'' Ruhi asked

'Yeah everything is okay. Your Ishima and I were wondering if you would like to come with us to Mumbai. Your Ishima and I are going there tomorrow because there is this ...''

But before Raman could complete what he was saying he felt his daughter throw her hands around his neck and say

'Really Papa Oh I really wanted to be a part of this. It is going to be awesome.''

'Uhhh Ruhi what are you talking about?'' a confused Raman asked

'I am not allowed to tell you or Ishima but I talked to Ayaan and he gave me all the details. You will not regret going papa I swear.'' She replied happily

'I did not think you would agree to this so easily.'' Said Ishita

'Well most of my friends are there Ayaan,Dev, Akash, Nitya and Saanvi they are all going to be there. I have not seen them in so long. Plus I already talked to Mihika Auntie and she said she would talk to you and Papa for me. Oh my God wait I am going to call Mihika auntie and tell her thank you.'' And with that an excited Ruhi ran out of the room

Raman watched as his daughter ran out of the room and could not even understand what the hell was going on. It is like for a minute there the sad Ruhi had vanished all of a sudden.

'what the hell just happened?'' he asked looking at Ishita

'Do not look at me, I do not know what just happened.'' Ishita replied looking as baffled as Raman

'Why do I have this feeling that this sudden happiness has something to do with this Ayaan?'' he asked again

'Yeah I do too. But maybe it is a good thing. I mean I haven't seen her that excited about anything in the last two months like she is right now.'' Said Ishita

'I know she looked so happy.'' Said Raman smilingly

'Although I do wonder what my sister is up too'' said Ishita

'Well whatever it is, please thank you for me for bring a smile to my daughter's face'' said Raman

'You can tell her yourself when you get there.'' She answered

'Wait before it skips my mind. Who is Akash, Dev, Saanvi and who else?'' he said trying to remember the last name

'Nitya, yeah what about them? Ishita said

'Who are they? I do not think I remember them'' Raman said

'You remember the park we used to go to, it's where she met them. They are my brothers and sisters in a way. They all stay at the orphanage.'' She answered

'Oh yeah I remember. No wonder she never wanted to leave your place they day we got married. Mamma had to convince her by telling her we would always go back but I guess we never came through on that promise.'' He said slightly disappointed with himself

'Well better late than never right'' She said

'Ishima come one help me with the parking. We need to park everything and also I promised Ayaan that I would take for him some books please park them a well.'' Ruhi interrupted them extremely excited.

And with that they all started to prepare themselves for a trip that would forever change their lives

The last time they had been at Ishita's parents house was the day they got married and many things had changed. There was a playground just as they drove through the gate and there was beautiful flower garden on the left that followed through to the back yard. That just brightened the place. The place was decorated and was so full of color and life and it occurred to Raman why Ruhi may have loved this place so much. The house was bigger than what Raman remembered.

On their wedding night he had a lot of things on his mind and did not really care for his surroundings and so this was the first time he had actually taken in his surrounding and he had to admit it was a beautiful place.

As soon as Raman got down from the car, Ruhi grabbed his hand forcing him to follow her to the house.

'Oh My God Ishita is here. Come on everyone Ishita Didi is here.'' Yelled her mother

'Come one sweetie give your mother a hug. I have missed you so much.'' Said Mrs. Iyer as she came forward to hug her daughter

'I missed you just as much Amma. How are you? How is your health? Is everything okay?'' asked Ishita as she hugged her mother

'UUfffoo worry worrier I am absolutely okay. Stop worrying so much.'' Mrs. Iyers answered as she turned to Raman's mother and said

'Hello Mrs. Bhalla, welcome to our humble home''

'Thank you am glad to be here.'' Mrs. Bhalla lied

'Simmi how are you doing? Is everything okay with your new modeling career?'' Mrs. Iyer asked

'My career is doing okay than you for asking.'' Simmi replied

'Where is Raman? Did he come along?'' asked Mrs. Iyers

'Oh no he is around here somewhere.'' Said Simmi

'Mamma let me hug Ishita Didi as well.'' Said Nitya as she tried to take Ishita's hand from Mrs. Iyers

'Oh hey Nitya'' Said Ishita as she bent down to hug Nitya

'Come on Ishita Didi let me take you to our new rooms. They are awesome I swear.'' An excited Nitya said

'First say hello to the guests Nitya'' Said Ishita

Nitya folded her hands and greeted everyone before she grabbed Ishita's hand and lead her to the house leaving Mrs. Iyer outside to handle the guests. Ishita apologized to them as she was dragged away by Nitya

' Ishita Didi you need to come see our rooms and besides Raman uncle needs your help. Dev and Saanvi are grueling him and I think he needs a rescuer.'' Said Nitya as they walked into the house

Ishita walked into the kids' room seeing Raman sitting in front of 4 children and it seemed like they were talking about something serious.

' Oh so you are the one they call Raman right?'' said Dev

'Yes I am and you must be Dev?'' asked Raman

'Hey I do the asking not you! I was not here to do this before you took my didi away but better late than never. So tell me do you take good care of her?'' asked Dev

'Well I try my best to do that. So I think I am doing a good job. Right Ruhi?'' Said Raman as he turned to look at his daughter who was unsurprisingly finding the whole situation funny

'Nahi papa this interrogation is yours alone. Please do not involve me at all.'' Said Ruhi as she continued to laugh holding her mouth

'So which is it Mr. Raman are you taking care of her or not?'' added Saanvi

'I am taking care of her'' He answered

'Can you genuinely say that she is happy?'' asked Akash

'I think she is. I do not think there is a reason for her to be sad.'' Raman replied surprised at the question

'Do you think you make her happy?'' asked Dev

'Uuuhhh...'' And before Raman could answer

'Have you ever made her cry? Because if you have this room is going to be too small for us'' said Saanvi folding her hand into a fist and showing it to Raman

'Uuuhhh I do...'' and before he could answer that he heard someone ask

'Do you love her?'' asked Ayaan

There was a sudden silence in the room and one could hear a pin drop. All the kids kept on staring at Raman attentively waiting for him to give them an answer.
