ANUSHKA CAN TRAVEL TO OZ AS BCCI CLEARS GIRLFRIENDS

Anushka Sharma can ring in the New Year with Virat Kohli in Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will have no objection. The BCCI, in fact, has opened up a window for the partners, rather the WAGs, of the Indian cricketers to travel Down Under. The wives and girlfriends can now spend quality time with their men for close to 15 days. The BCCI's glasnost, however, is only partial. While the board has 'lifted' the ban on the girlfriends joining the players, it has said that they cannot share the rooms.
It means Anushka can officially be alongside her beau, can stay in the team hotel but cannot share Kohli's room. The BCCI has arranged stay only for the wives. It is understood that 12 WAGs are about to leave for Australia and one of them is believed to be the Bollywood star. BCCI has informed the players that the spouses can stay till the end of the fourth Test in Sydney. The Test ends on January 10.

Previously, the BCCI permitted only the players' wives to stay with them. But in the recent times, the board mandarins have realised the need to be sensitive to the 'girlfriends' as well. A top BCCI official admitted that it cannot impose restrictions on the girlfriends, particularly in these times of live-in relationships. "We have to be sensitive to these issues. We cannot have a cast-in-iron rule that only wives are going to be allowed to meet the players. We will have no problem with the girlfriends as well," BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said.
He, however, confirmed that only the wives will be allowed to share rooms with the players. The much-publicised Kohli- Anushka affair has brought about a change in the BCCI's thinking but it must be mentioned that the vice-captain is not the only player to have sought permission for his celebritygirlfriend. Even Robin Uthappa had previously requested the board to have his girlfriend travel with him. The Karnataka player was granted permission on that occasion.
