The following is a transcript (translated into English) of the discussion a close acquaintance of mine had with someone who played a big role in the creation of Ek Hasina Thi.

This was a very rushed ending to a great show. Why was that?

Firstly, thanks for watching our serial. Since our inception in April, we were definitely thinking of our one year contract being extended. Therefore, we had a script ready spanning much longer than where it ended right now. For better or for worse, the contract was not extended and we had to end the show much earlier than anticipated. In doing so, we had to rush over a lot of events and that is why the last few weeks had so much going on in them. Despite this, we still were not able to finish the entire plot we had designed and had to end the show sacrificing the remaining events that were supposed to occur.

I'm assuming that was the cause for some of the loop holes remaining?

Definitely, in such a short time period it was impossible for us to cover each detail.

Many people dislike the ending. Do you blame Star Plus for it?

No, the channel took a decision which in their view was best for the channel and our show. We can't dispute that.

You ended the show with a very open ending. Why was that?

(Laughs) Yes, it was a very confusing ending. There were two main reasons for it. The obvious one was to have an opening for a continuation of the show in the future. As I said above, we had a script created spanning much longer than where the show ended right now. By making a complete ending, we didn't want to close any doors for future opportunities of creating a continuation of the show. Another reason was to simply create suspense for the viewers, and confuse them slightly.

So season 2 is certainly a possibility?

We can't reveal much of this right now, especially since we don't have the complete details of this either. But certainly, if sometime in the future we are given the opportunity to continue the show, we will make the best of it. Of course this is all hypothetical, and no such thing may occur. But the likelihood of the serial continuing in a few months is high, especially considering how much of the plot we had to cut short.

Thanks a lot for your time, and best of luck in all of your future endeavors.

Well I feel they are just sending such feelers to quell viewers' frustration at loose ends and rushed closure.

If the channel did not even let them continue for the stipulated 1 year term in first season, how can anyone expect them to allow a second season of the show and where is the guarantee that second season will carry on smoothly and not get botched up the way first season was?

There obviously seems to be a problem with PH and channel. Therefore a second season is highly unlikely. PH cannot even take it to another channel as rights are with SP.

They left viewers in hope to silence them, and later everyone would move on, matter dried and dusted.

Even if there is a second season then getting same cast is very difficult and unlikely. They might overhaul the cast.

Well I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility. Maybe Star Plus will (somehow?) realize their mistake and decide to give Ek Hasina Thi another chance, perhaps in a less popular time slot.

I also don't think the member of the development team would say this just to gain attention. The show is now over, so what can they gain by false promises?

Anyway, I guess we can just wait and watch, hoping for something to happen within the next few months.

I did not say that member is talking like this to gain attention. I said they say this as an explanation to criticism, questions of fans.
Some think the ending had some message or symbolism etc. If it gives hope or makes one feel better then so be it.

Without covering much detail they could just show something like shaurya ko Fasi ki saza mil gayi and rajnath and sakshi in jail. Ended perhaps with durga puja. Dev and durga doing it. But they dint. So i also feel they definitely have a plan to come back.

In this case, the message could only be: "The wealthy/powerful (especially men) are not really held to account for their heinous misdeeds - the public may complain but nothing changes".

If they do a Season 2 I certainly won't waste my time watching it. Season 1 was such a disappointment. I won't expect more from Season 2.

What I said still applies. The show is over, so the show's perception doesn't (or at least shouldn't) matter to them anymore.

Also, note that this was a private "interview" (it wasn't really an interview either, just a conversation) and therefore most people won't be aware of it. So whatever the person said isn't going to be disclosed to numerous Ek Hasina Thi watchers, and hence won't have much of an impact on them.

The ending definitely symbolized a possibility of a continuation, you can't dispute that. Of course, it can just be a ploy created by the development team to gather attention, but once again I don't see of what use that would be.

I think they copied the ending call from numerous Hollywood thrillers or horror movies where they end it on a thrilling note of fear for the future.
An ending where the protagonist has vanquished or killed the villain but in the last scene the killer or villain is seen alive again or the protagonist gets a mysterious scary call!
Its a warning that even if story ended happily, doesnt mean the danger is over, so keep ur wits abt you and be careful.
