SHOT - 1

He looked on as she descended down the stairs, her every move - a graceful crusade, her visage - lovely as ever. He never thought he was capable of feeling for her the way he was feeling now. She was his best friend after all. And one can't fall for their very own best now, could they?

He remembered his very own preaching claiming the falsification of that age old theory - a boy and a girl could never be friends. Well, he wanted to laugh at his stupidity now. Because indeed his best friend was not just a friend' for him. Not anymore, things have changed.

In his heart, he knew what the cause of this change was but he was very reluctant to acknowledge it. And why should he? He just can't simply accept that he had started noticing the exquisiteness of his best friend only after she was getting interested in some another guy. No, he cant be aspiring for things that was about to belong to somebody else. But then, khushi wasn't a thing - his heart probed in. And moreover, wasn't true love was supposed to be realized this way? He had read innumerable novels, seen countless movies where two friends realize they love each other only when a third person interrupts. Jealousy works wonders - goes another famous saying.

Yes, this was what has happened with him too. He shouldn't be ashamed of accepting this because this happens with everyone. Its a general human mind-set and the sooner he accepts, the better it is, for him.

He smiled when she came near him asking how she looked. Beautiful!!- he wanted to say but he stopped himself in time. He cant let her know of his feelings just like that. She deserved to be treated regally. So, restricting himself, he complimented her in his usual way,

"With this many tons of beauty creams wasted, even a vamp would look like a princess. So for you my darling, all I have to say is, you are looking just like a princess khushi!" He stressed on the key-word princess' and waited for her customary O' reaction. And, he dint had to wait for long.

He chuckled when she tried to run after him, trying hard but utterly failing to balance herself on those leg-straining stilettoes which he knew she had bought just a few days before.

While buying those and few other girly stuff, she had bashfully admitted that she wanted to look special tonight - after all its my first date with him. That was the first time he had realized that he dint like her giving so much of an importance to him. Till today, she had cared less of what the world thought of her looks, her behavior, her lifestyle or their friendship, for that matter. Even their families had sensed something cooking with the way they behaved around each other but khushi had paid no heed. And he agreed with her that time. Only now he realized how correct they were and how wrong she was.

Not just she, even he was wrong in so many of his preconceptions. If someone had told him before that he would be jealous of a guy who was dating his best-friend, he would have laughed at their face. But today, he could do nothing rather than accepting the fact that he indeed was jealous. Jealous of Arnav Singh Raizada - the man who seemed to have established supremacy over his khushi's heart.

Well, never mind - he consoled himself even as he watched her leave. This was not the end. She was just going to spend an evening with him and get back here. He still had chance to win her over him, infact he had an upper hand. Its me who is her best friend not him - thought Vinay Malhotra with a confident smile, gearing up himself for the tough task ahead.

"Oh my God Vinay, I am so so so happy." She held his hands make him swirl along with her.

He had expected this - that freaking Raizada might have put hell and heaven together to impress my innocent butterfly, but he is anyway going to lose her in the end. "Are! but first tell me what happened exactly?"

"Okay, exactly this happened Mr Malhotra that your best friend had finally fallen in love." She screamed out the last words, jumping on her spot like a little kid. "God, I cant believe this. I love him so damn much and you know what the best thing is, he loves me too. He himself confessed it first. Gosh, this is the best day of my life vinay. I am so very happy"

He couldn't believe this either. How could one evening change everything? "Khush, khush..hold on. How can be so sure, this is the first time you went out with him. Maybe, its just an illusion." He prayed with all his might for his guess to come true.

"Actually.." she trailed off, shuffling on her feet guiltily. "We had been meeting each other for quite some time now. During Akash's wedding period ofcourse."

Oh man! Arnav is akash's brother and payal was khushi's childhood friend. Ofcourse they must have met there. And here he was thinking that they had just casually planned this evening together. Oh, he was such an idiot- the way they were interacting when he had met with them at the club yesterday night, it was evident for even a fool to notice that they were sharing a comfy relation. He looked at her blankly - only if I had stopped you today.

She was trying hard to look repentant but despite her efforts, she failed. Her face was a picture of delightedness and he felt rage like never before consuming him entirely. After that, no matter how much she tried to apologize he heard none of it.

To speak the truth, he had lost the hope.

"Hey jaan!" He relaxed on his office chair, waiting for her sweet melodious voice to sooth his fraying nerves.

"Arnav.." Her teary voice came from the other end, alarming him at once.

"Khushi, are you crying? What happened, tell me?"

"Vinay is back, Arnav. He wasn't answering any of our phone calls all these days and today all of a sudden, he texted me to meet him at the hill-side. Don't know why, but I am not having a good feeling about it. I need you to come with me Arnav. I don't wanna do this without you" She was hell worried with her best friend's behavior. He had left the city without informing anyone the very next day of her date with Arnav and now that he was back, she dint knew what to expect from all this.

"You are right khushi, something's wrong. Its two month since he is gone. He cant be this upset just because you dint told him about us before. But don't worry sweetheart. Tell me where you are now, I am coming" Arnav got off the chair and picked his car keys.

"I am already in your office parking, come soon" khushi ended the call feeling dead anxious. After a while, as she spotted Arnav entering through the backdoor she immediately broke into a run and threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly.

"Shhh... its alright jaan. Don't panic. Maybe he is not at all upset with you. He may be having rifts with anyone else and as a best friend, maybe he wants to discuss this with you. Please don't panic love, its going to be alright." He tried to break the hug but she dint let him, holding on extra-tight.

"No, don't let go. Just keep on holding me please. I dont know why Arnav but I feel something really terrible is going to happen." She parted from him just enough to place her lips on his and kiss him passionately. He understood her need of assurance and responded back with matching zeal.

They kissed quite a few times, giving deep thorough kisses, one extracting as much love and assertion as possible and the other, offering everything of him silently.

The moment khushi looked in her best friend's eyes, she knew her worst fears had come true. And what he spoke after words only proved her intuition right.

He was speaking too many things at a time. Confessing his love, speaking of his changed feelings, telling her about his pathetic state when he left the city in search of some solace yet finding none, begging her to accept him in her life- not as a friend this time, but a lover.

With numb countenance, she looked on as he took a few steps backwards, towards the cliff, threatening to end his life right then and there if she dint accepted his command. Feeling giddiness assaulting her senses and energy leaving her body, she fell on her knees clutching Arnav's hands which unsurprisingly had turned ice-cold.

so he is doing what he thinks is right

for khushi this is a nightmare
