Lets talk about Graffitti............is it art or vandalism?

If u think it is vandalism, wat can be done to stop it.

If u think it is art, how can it be encouraged?

nice topic!
It depends on

where it was made
when an why it was made
what it contains

I like it in parts of mission disctrict in SF, but if they were to do so in my neighbourhood here, it would be called vandalism. IMO, wall writings should also have a reason and place..

seems like someone has a problem with my signature 😡 😉

obviously I feel all forms of graffitii are welcome, it is the most open form of artistic expression

Painters hold a workshop to display their paintains, Grapphitti artists bring their art to the people where they cant ignore it 😆 , same difference 😉

😆 😆 That was well said Sareg.

Personally, I find grafitti to be an amazing art! Some walls, sometimes make you stop and notice. There have been instances where I was in the train and have tilted my head and turned till I could see it all on that wall as the train passed by 😛 Some are really beautiful.

I think they shud find a platform to display their art. They shud be encouraged to work on their art ... obviously not on the walls! 😛 Im sure if they did something on our fence or walls, I might have an issue with them 😕

sareg....r u referring 2 me having a prob w/ ur siggy? 😕 ..if so...absolutely not...i cant read hindi so i have no idea wat it says

and i agree with u guys..graffitti is an expressive form of urban art and it shouldnt be completely turned down as vandalism. However, i think graf. artists should be given proper space to display their artwork...so that they dont do it on other people's properties. As long as its not on my property, I dont mind it. in fact, its a great way to pass time on long subway rides...sit by the window and admire the graffitti as the subway goes by

😆😆😆 I am sure, he was joking. Its title is GRAFFITTI.

I thought of subway walls and sound of silence by Simon and Garfunkel myself..

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said, the words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.
And whisperd in the sounds of silence.

Same sentiments, Javs!

Going back and forth from one place to another in the city, grafitti is something good to occupy your mind with.

Certain graffiti artwork is really good and those graffitists should be given an area to exhibit their talent instead of spraying paint here and there. But certain work is just 🤔. That kind of stuff should be done away with, like ASAP.

lol sareg either way i cant read it 😆

With graffiti the content also matters. If its just tags carved into places then its unnecessary...esp. if it says something inappropriate. However, the throws done across buliding walls, subway carts etc are undoubtedly art. it takes time, effort and skills to create such work. undermining it is a waste of talent
