To tie the knot with longtime girlfriend Nikhila Palat

Nikhila Palat had no idea what was in store for her when she packed her bags for a trip to Bangkok with beau Vivan Bathena.

The couple has been dating for the last four years and Vivan wanted to surprise his long-time girlfriend.

"I had planned to propose to Nikhila on her birthday (July 22) and had been organising this trip for months," says Vivan, who features in the Zee soap Maayka.

"I didn't want her to find out that I was about to do anything different or reveal my plans. However, I definitely wanted to take her out of the country and propose in a different way. It had to be memorable."

All set to wed

Vivan took Nikhila to the 54th floor of a Bangkok hotel restaurant and hid his ring in a fruit dessert. "But it didn't go off as I had planned it. There were some glitches.

Firstly, the waiters were too excited to get the dessert before the main course, which was a bit funny. When the plate finally came on the table, I couldn't see the ring, and thought someone had flicked it."

However, before Vivan could fret, Nikhila found the ring. "It was a special moment and Nikhila got all teary-eyed. I think both of us have reached that point where there was no turning back. This is a natural progression in our relationship," says Vivan.
