Well, apparently the idea behind sending Jeans was that the producers was American born Indian...Ashok Amritraj and his American partner, Michael Soloman. And hence, the committee that decides which film will go to the Oscars reasonsed that since the producers are 'American', the film stood a high chance of winning an award!😆

I am not kidding...this was the actual response when media and other noted personalities questioned the Committee in India on why such a mediocre, pathetic and completely brainless film (anyone who has seen that film will vouch that its a terrible movie in every aspect) was sent as India's entry to the Oscars.

All the more bewildering, because it was released the same year, as Sathya, 1947 Earth, Dil Se, Train to Pakistan, Hazar Chaurasi Ki Maa, Dahan ect (and I am not even counting some of the brilliant regional films that released the same year)...even Kuch Kuch Hota Hai films that truly were masterpieces and would have atleast made India proud in some way, had they been even sent for the Oscars!

But no...we send a film like Jeans!😕
