A/N: Dear Readers, I am extremely sorry for the delay. I really do hope you enjoy the following chapter.
Chapter 8
Asad and Zoya were being sent to Mumbai for their honeymoon. Their parents went to the airport to see them off. Asad smiled as Zoya stood at the airport clinging to her mother. He knew that it was not the fear of going away from her mother or going away alone with Asad. Zoya had fear of flying in an airplane. Every time that she was to get on a flight her phobia was back. This time too she did not want to get on the flight but then to go by train or by road would be a problem. Asad suggested that they go by car but as it would mean to spend a long time alone with Asad she refused. As the flight took off Zoya gripped on Asad's hand. Her nails were digging in his arm. Once the plane was in the air Zoya let go off his hand. Asad did not say anything to her. Zoya was looking outside the window. Zoya felt like she was a bird and loved to see everything from that height. She was pointing towards things and then showing Asad too. Suddenly her mood and tone changed. "Asad change seats with me." "Kyun achanak kya hua? You were enjoying the view. And one more thing what is this way of speaking to me? Zoya don't look at me like that. Main husband hone ke naate nahi tumse bada hone ke naate bol raha hoon." Zoya was not telling him anything. She just wanted to change seats with him. Asad was about to get up when a stewardess walked past him slightly brushing against him. Asad smiled. "No Zoya I like my seat better. I don't want to change seats." "You like your seat better or there is something else that you like better?" Zoya made Asad change seats with her.
Zoya was reading a magazine when she noticed something. There was a weird expression on her face. Asad was sitting on the window seat but the view next to him was much more beautiful than seeing the view outside. Zoya's expression caught his attention. "Ab kya hua Zoya?" She looked at Asad and made a more weird face. "Yuck boys are so disgusting!" "What did I do?" "Not you." She leaned in towards him and whispered in his ear. "I saw a girl go to the washroom. He followed her to the washroom. Dono ek saath andar gaye. They are doing it in there!" "Toh kya hua? Some people do it they have fun what's wrong in it? Actually it is ok and uncomfortable nahi hota." Asad smiled devilishly. Wantin to have a little fun and tease Zoya he asked. "Why are you telling me this Zoya? Irada kya hai?" He raised his brows teasing Zoya. "Shut up Asad! I have no such kinky ideas. Ek minute aapko kaise pata that is is not uncomforatble?" Zoya looked at Asad. "Hey don't look at me like this. I have never done anything of this sort." "Then what sort have you done?" "Zoya keep you voice down. I have not done anything of any sort." She hid her face in a magazine and tried to imagine how it would be doing it and then she thought that if she would want to experience it it would be with Asad only. She brushed off the idea and made a weird face as she thought of doing it with Asad. She mentally smacked herself. A stewardess came to offer them drinks. Zoya politely declined and did not even let Asad have any. She would drink or eat anything only after reaching the hotel. She would not want to use that lavatory or any other one. Asad was laughing at her childish behavior. She hid behind a magazine.
Zoya and Asad got into the car the hotel had sent to receive them. The car took them to the Ramada Plaza Palm Grove at Juhu. A Sea View Double Bed Non Smoking Superior Suite had been booked for them. Asad and Zoya had no idea what awaited them at the hotel. It was a beautiful hotel. Zoya was lost in looking at the grandeur of the hotel. Suddenly Asad's hand was on her face and he cutely poushed her away from him. Zoya was shocked and angry at Asad's behavior. She was standing behind a pillar. Just as she was about to come out and confront Asad for his weird behavior she saw a babe run into his arms. "Asad!!!" squealed the lady with excitement. Zoya recognized her from the day she and Asad had gone wedding shopping. She was the one for whose firm Asad was aaplying for a job. "Tannu. What a pleasant surprise!" Asad smiled at her. Asad's friend Tannu/Tanveer had her arms looped behind his neck and his arms were buries dwwp into the pockets of his denims. Tannu' Zoya made a face at Asad and he looked at her pleading to stay hidden. "Asad what are you doing here?" "Tannu I am here for my... My dad wanted me to come and complete some formalities with a client." "Dad ka business join kar rahe ho? You wanted to do a job na?" "Yes I still want to do a job." "Hmm accha listen we should meet up and finish that interview. Bhopal ki branch mein ab bhi opening hai." Tanveer and Asad said good byes for that moment.
Zoya came out from behind the pillar and stared at Asad. "What are staring at?" "I am trying to see ki fevicol kahan gira hai?" "Fevicol?" Asad had a confused look. "Haan jis tarah se aap aur aapki Tannu ek doosre se chipke hue the maine socha fevicol gira hoga beech mein." Asad smiled on seeing Zoya jealous which annoyed her even more. He knew that her mood was off but knew that her mood change on going to the room. They were escorted to their suite by the bell boy. He left after Asad gave him a handsome tip. As soon as the bell boy left Zoya ran to the window and opened the curtains. It was a full screen window. The scene was very beautiful and romantic. The evening sky was colored in many shades. The refelction of the crimson sun gleamed on the ocean waves and the first star of the night made it all so romantic. Asad was very happy that Zoya was happy being in Mumbai. He began to unpack his bag and kept his clothes in one of the cupboards. Zoya was lost in the romance of the sky and the sea. Asad came and stood behind her. He whispered in her ears. "Thinking about our first night on the honeymoon?" Zoya turned and looked at him. Asad smirked teasing her more. Humming hum tum ek kamre mein band ho...' He lied on the bed and signed her to join him. Zoya ran for the door and Asad caught her in time before she could get out of the room. She tried to wriggle out of his hold. He calmed her down. "Zoya stop it I was just joking." She stopped wriggling and he let go of her. "Are you telling the truth?" "Kasam khilwa lo." Zoya looked at him with suspicion. Asad went and lied on the couch to clear her suspicion.
Zoya came and stood next to him. "You are so mean!" "Now what did I do?" Asad sat up. "Asad mujhe bhook lagi hai? I want to go out for dinner. You should take me out for dinner." "You want to go out on a date with me?" "Date? Aur aapke saath? No ways. I just want to go out for dinner and if we are going out means I have to wear nice clothes bas aur kuch nahi. Don't flatter yourself ki Zoya Faroo... Zoya Khan would want to go out on a date with you. Ab mere itne bhi bure din nahi aaye hain." "Alright get ready we will go out but..." "But ye mat khaiyega that you can't be seen with me by your precious Tannu and the job that she is offering." "Zoya she is not mine. Don't ever say that. If you want to say something bad about me say it but kisi aur ko aise nahi bolte especially when you don't know them. Understood?" Zoya agreed. "Go and get ready I will reserve a table at the restaurant of your choice." Asad gave her the brocher of the hotel to select a restaurant from. "I don't want to go to a restaurant." "Toh?" Zoya went and stood near the full screen window. She jerked her head to the right. "Why are you jerking your head? Neck mein sprain hai?" "No." "Toh kya hua? Restaurant nahi jana toh where do you want to go?" "To the beach. I want to have dinner by the sea under the moonlit starry sky." Zoya showed Asad a picture of the beach dinner arrangement in the brocher. "Zoya this is a romantic candle light dinner arrangement." "Toh kya hua? I am going with my husband and not with some aira gaira raah chalta insaan. I want to go and you have to take me. Asad if the lights went out at home toh kya hum candle light dinner nahi karenge?"
Asad smiled as he was reminded of the young school girl Zoya who would huff and puff and try to blow down the house when she would not get what she wanted. Zoya was standing with her hands crossed at her chest. She was not going to take no for an answer. "Ok get ready." Asad made a call and booked a table at the beach side in a secluded spot. Zoya was sressed beautifully in a white anarkali dress. Asad could not take his eyes off of her. She checked herself in the mirror. "Asad, why are you looking at me in this way? Is something wrong? I think I am looking nice." "I did not say that you are not looking nice." "Then why are you looking at me like that?" "Arre you are my wife ab licence hai mere paas." "Don't look at me. Close your eyes." "FYI these are my eyes I can look at anything and anyone I want." Asad opened the door and stepped outside waiting for Zoya to finish the finishing touches of her make up. Zoya imitated the sentence Asad said. "Arre you are my wife ab licence hai mere paas." "Asad is such a ... such a ... such a typical husband. He did not even say a word about how I was looking. I know I don't look like that Tannu na idhar udhar se sab dikhta hai. Men like only such girls. Sharafat se poori dhanki hui biwi nahi acchi lagti. He could not erven say that Zoya acchi lag rahi ho. Asad is Dumb for not praising me and I am dumber jo expect kar rahi thi that he would say something nice."
Asad and Zoya headed towards the beach area. Though she did not smile as Asad did not praise her beauty Zoya did smile when she saw the romantic candle light dinner setting. She remembered the day he had taken her out to come up with ideas to break the marriage. It was a beautiful dinner setting then too and how she had wished she would be taken to a dinner like that for real someday. She never thought that it would be Asad who would bring one more such night in her life. What could be more romantic than a private candlelight dinner served by a white-gloved waiter under the stars? Beautiful music of Zoya's choice played in the back ground as they waited for their dinner to arrive. "Chaand aaj ki raat bahut akela feel karega." Asad said looking at Zoya. "Why?" Zoya was confused as Asad's broke his silence. "Kyunki chaandani toh aaj raat mere paas mere saath mere saamne baithi hai." Asad smiled as his words made Zoya blush. She looked at him and wondered as she had never seen a romantic Asad, flirtacious yes but never a romantic Asad. They enjoyed the candlelight dinner on a secluded spot on the private beach of the Palm Grove Hotel. Asad wanted to dance with Zoya but he was happy with what he was getting. He did not want to rush her. "Let's go to the room." Asad put his hand forth to help Zoya get up. "Umm Asad are you tired?" "No." "Can we take a long walk on the beach?" "Sure."
Asad and Zoya were walking along the shore with the waves crashing at their feet. "Asad it feels so good na? Ye thanda thanda pani and our feet sinking in the wet sand..." "Yes Zoya it feels very good. Do one thing idhar aao walk on my left... Sea se door hokar." "Why?" "Zoya you don't know how to swin that is why." "Asad the water is barely reaching my ankles." "Zoya..." "Asad don't use that tone with me." "What tone?" "That condescending tone which tells me you are right and I am wrong. Asad can I ask you for one more thing?" "Hmm." "I want to play in the water." "Zoya you do not know how to swim." Zoya put her hand in his and held on tightly to it. "Asad no harm can ever come to me with you by my side. Please." Asad looked at Zoya as she gave him the prettiest smile to make him do what she wanted. He just could not understand that was he reading into her behavior too much or did she really not realize what truly lied in her heart. They played in the water for a long time and then lay on the sand looking at the night sky. "Zoya." "Hmm." "Thank you." "What for?" "The first night of our honeymoon could not have been more beautiful than this." Asad and Zoya could not stop smiling.
"Zoya please curtains band karo." Asad rolled over to the other side facing away from the window. "Asad get up it is 7 am. I know we are on a holiday and you like to sleep till late on days off but Asad humein ghoomne jaana hai. I have marked all the places I want to go see. Wakey wakey." Zoya pulled the blanket away. Asad sat up on the bed with a frown. Zoya could not stop laughing. "Why are you laughing?" Zoya went to the dressing table and got her hand mirror and held it in front of Asad. "Why are you laughing? It is natural. Ho jata hai. Have you looked at yourself when you wake up in the morning? When you wake up in the morning you too look messed up not like some telly bahu who wakes up all prim and proper." "Asad why are you like this? Jab aap mazaak karte hain toh chalta hai koi aur kare toh nahi." Zoya got on the bed and made his hair proper with her hands. "Accha now get up get fresh. I have ordered breakfast and then you are taking me out." Asad and Zoya began their vacation in Mumbai by paying homage at the Haji Ali Shrine. Asad prayed that it would be a day from many more to come that they would remember for the rest of their lives. They visited INOX which was close to Haji Ali. Zoya wanted to see a movie but they did not have time. Asad and Zoya purchased souveniers for every member of the family from various shops at the mall. Asad clicked pictures of Zoya when she was not looking at him. He liked to click pictures of a person's natural expressions rather than posed ones.
Zoya spent almost an hour going from shop to shop purchasing gifts for the family. Asad followed her silently carrying the shopping bags like any good husband. Asad took Zoya to one of the finest restaurants in the area. "Asad, can we go to the beach after lunch?" "Again?" "Asad that was at night abhi toh day hai. We went to Juhu beach. This time I want to go to Chowpatty beach." "What's the difference? Beach toh beach hota hai the same sand and the same water." "Asad you are broing with a capital B." Asad and Zoya went to the Chowpatty beach where Zoya collected many shells. Asad then took her to the aquarium, Gateway of India, Hanging gardens and many more places in South Mumbai. In the evening when they returned to the hotel Zoya was in the mood to tease Asad. "Asad." "Hmm." "Thank you." "What for?" "For bringing my past to the present." "Huh?" "Asad do you remember when I was in the 5th standard and I got the pox..." "Haan." "That time na we were supposed to come to Mumbai for a school tour... I missed it because of the pox but aaj mera Mumbai school trip ho gaya." Asad looked at her and she smiled. "Asad you took me to all those places one would go on a school trip. Grownup wali ek bhi jagah aap nahi le gaye mujhe." "OK aaj raat we will do grown up things. We will go for dinner and dancing. Theek?" Zoya happily nodded her head. She came straight to their room to get ready.
Asad entered the room and saw that she was very excited to go out with him. Asad too was happy on seeing her excitement but then he became sad. On his way to the room he had received a call from Tannu.
"Zoya." "Asad bas 5 more minutes and I will be ready. Asad we have time before dinner toh movie bhi chalen?" "Zoya will it be ok if we go tomorrow night?" Asad was feeling sad asking Zoya to sacrifice her time with him. "Why do we have to cancel tonight Asad?" Asad could not even look at her. "Zoya woh you remember Tannu?" "Haan woh fevicol koi bhoolne wali cheez thodi hai. What about her?" "Zoya don't be like this. I have to meet with her for the job. Zoya she is leaving for Bangalore first thing in the morning toh aaj raat I have to meet her. I promise Zoya kal se I will take you wherever you want. Mera saara waqt tumhaara hoga. Bas give me this one night just a couple of hours." Asad went to change to dress appropriately for an interview. Meanwhile Zoya went to Tanveer's room. She did not trust Tannu and her intentions and what she saw shocked her. She quickly returned to the room before Asad came out of the dressing room. "Zoya kya hua? Why are you sleeping at this hour? Chalo come one get up. I know you are angry at me but Zoya try to understand." Zoya did not get off the bed. She lay there looking very weak. Asad touched her forehead and she had a fever. "Zoya you have a fever. Why did you not tell me?" "Asad I am fine aap jaayein Tanveer is waiting for you." "Zoya are you crazy I am not going to leave you alone." Asad called up Tanveer and canceled the meeting. Asad sat by Zoya's side the whole night holding her hand. She did not want to take medicines nor did she want to consult with a doctor.
In the morning Asad went to say good bye to Tannu and also to thank her for giving him a second chance. He knew that he could not get a job without an interview and Tannu was the best interviewee he could have but it was not on the cards. Tanveer assured him that if he tried directly with the Bhopal branch there could be a chance for him as he deserved that job. Asad thanked her once more and returned to the room. When he came back to the room he saw a happy Zoya dancing on the bed doing a victory dance and screaming that finally Tannu had gone. Zoya's antics Asad always found them cute or cutely annoying. This time she had gone too far by Asad's standards. "What the hell Zoya!" Asad screamed at Zoya. Zoya was scared on hearing Asad roar like a lion. She got off the bed and rushed to him. "Asad please listen to me..." Zoya tried to make him understand her POV but Asad was just not in the mood to listen to her. "Zoya you and your childish behavior are getting on my nerves. Do you have any idea how much damage you have done? Zoya because if your fake illness drama I could not meet Tannu..." "Oh toh iss baat ka bura lag raha hai ki you could not meet your Tannu..." Zoya too was angry.
"What the hell do you mean by saying that? Of course mujhe bura laga hai Zoya and one more thing you better keep your tone in check when you speak to me especially when you are the one who is wrong. She took time out of her holiday schedule to conduct a personal interview for me so that I could get the job of chief architect at Qureshi Constrcutions but you ruined it all." Zoya did not like to be screamed at especially by Asad but this time he had gone too far. He was screaming at her for his precious Tannu. "Asad it was not an interview she called you to her room for. I have something to tell you that will change your mind too. You will understand that I was not wrong." "Yes please go ahead and enlighten me as I am the ignorant one." "Asad she was not planning an interview... I mean she would give you the job but Asad she was planning something else too. I saw that special arrangements were being made in her room. I saw candles, roses, chocolates, strawberries, champagne and all the other things going into her room. Asad she was planning to seduce you." Asad just stared at Zoya angrily. "I was worried sick for you ki tum beemar ho... I did not leave your side for more than 5 minutes and this is what you did when I was not around... You were spying on Tannu. Zoya seriously you need to grow up and stop creating problems for me. Zoya a wife makes sure that she solves all of her husband's problems but you only add to mine. You and your childish behavior have become the biggest problem for me!" Asad stormed out of the honeymoon suite.
Zoya sat there crying because Asad called her the biggest problem of his life. She knew that he did not want to marry her but she had no idea that within days of being married to her Asad would be fed up of her. Asad had changed. She was reminded of the beautiful time she had with Asad before that evil witch Tannu entered into Asad. Zoya called him up but Asad disconnected the calls. Asad did not speak with Zoya. He ignored her which hurt Zoya more than his scolding. Asad had barged out of their room and not returned till late afternoon. Zoya stepped out of the bedroom. Once again she was shocked at what she saw. Asad was resting against the wall of the deep end of the swimming pool. He saw Zoya and on purpose began speaking with the ladies who were at the pool side. Zoya stood there with her mouth open and hands angrily crossed at the chest. Asad quickly looked in her direction and saw her coming towards him. She was walking on the edge of the pool. He tried to warn her but she did not get his signals. She accidently fell into the pool. "ZOYA!" Asad screamed and swam in her direction to save her. He could not find her anywhere. He swam under water but she was not in the pool. He came up for a breath to go down again and there she was sitting on the deep end of the pool. She raised her brows and Asad angrily slapped his hand on the water. He came to her and took her to their room. Zoya was smiling as she got proof that Asad cared for her even though he was angry with her. "When did you learn to swim?" "The two years that you were away I had a lot of time on my hands as you were not there to waste my time fighting with me." "Go and change nahi toh sach mein beemar pad jaaogi." "I will not mind." "Why?" Zoya looked at him and smiled. "Kal raat ke baad do you really need to ask me this question? Do you remember what I told you at the beach? No harm can come to me with you by my side." Asad and Zoya both changed.
Asad was still ignoring Zoya. She came to him and put her hand on his shoulder. "Ab bhi?" Asad went out of the room. Zoya knew that Asad was upset with her. She gave him the space he needed. She could have followed him and go to where Asad was but she decided to let him cool off. Asad came to the room after dinner time. He saw that Zoya had not easten the diner he had sent for her. The silent treatment continued. He changed for the night and lied on his side of the bed facing away from Zoya who sat next to him. "Asad I know you are angry with me. Aapko pata hai ammi kya kehti hain? You should never go to bed angry. Asad I know that you are angry with me that you could go and meet with Tannu. Asad look at me. Please." Asad did not look at her. "Ok if you donlt want to look at me at least please meri baat sun lijiye. Asad I know you did not want to get married. The major reason was that you were getting married to me but there was one more reason that you did not have a job. You did not have an option mujhse shaadi karni padi and I know why you want that job. Why you have always wanted a good job so that you can provide for your wife and family. Asad we were brought up with every thing we wanted. Humein kabhi koi kami nahi thi. That is why you want to give me everything abbu, chachu, dadi have given me. Asad you said that I am not a good wife as I added to your problems. Asad aapko pata hai ek acchi biwi ki qualities mein se ek kya hoti hai? She can take care of her house and family with what her husband makes."
Asad turned to look at Zoya. She was sitting with her back facing him. He had no idea she was so understanding. He always saw her as the little girl who was stubborn and childish. He wanted to conmfort her but he just could not. Zoya took Asad's hand in hers. "Asad tell me one thing if you get a job with Tannu's company will you be really satisfied. I have read the contract she left with you. Asad the pay is good but the other things I don't think that you agree to them. Only to provide for your family aap ye compromise kar lenge? Asad you are not getting the job according the terms and conditions you want. Kya ye sach mein aap chahte hain? Asad you will be miserable doing this job and one day you will blame me for you being miserable and then you will hate me. Asad I can live with minimal things I can not live with the fact that you could hate me." Zoya's eyes moistened. She knew that Asad did not like her but it was not that he hated her. She could not take his hatred. "Asad I want to you wait till you get a job of your liking. Look we live at home. Humein rent nahi dena, electricity, phone bills nahi dene, nor do we have any ghar ka kharcha like food bills, maid ke bills etc. Asad you do not have to woory about the home related monetary issues. Family we don't have one. It's just us. See shopping for clothes and other things I will not trouble you for another 6 months and I don't think you will also need new clothes. Arre shaadi ke pehle and baad mein we have done enough shopping. As it is I can't wear those clothes to college so I will be wearing my clothes from before the wedding. Waise bhi this is my last semester. About me going to the college toh wo toh I go by bus. For this month I am covered bus pass hai. For the next 2 months when you are going out for job hunting ya if you have got a job and you are going to the office you can drop me if my college is enroute your office ya toh bus pass hai hi. My college and classes fees have been paid for the entire year so wo expense bhi nahi hai. Asad we are fully covered in the expenditure department."
Asad did not say anything. He went to sleep. Zoya was still feeling bad that even after she explained everything to him he was still angry with her. The sunrays crept into the room and fell on Zoya's face. She opened her eyes. Asad was not on his side of the bed. She got up and looked for him in the room and also knocked on the washroom door. She sat on the bed. "Asad left me. He was so angry with me that he left me." She was almost in tears when the door opened and Asad entered with a breakfast trolly. "Zoya kya hua? Why are you sitting like this? I thought you would have freshened up by now. Chalo fresh ho jao then we will have breakgast." Zoya ran to him and hugged him tightly. "Zoya kya hua?" Zoya looked at him with teary eyes and then began hitting him with her fists. "Zoya kya hua?" "Aap mujhse gussa the na? When I did not find you in the room I thought you left me." "Zoya do you really think I can ever leave you? Mujhe apni jaan pyari hai Zoya. Our family members will kill me if I leave you." Zoya became angry with him and went to freshen up. She saw that Asad had laid the breakfast table. Eggs sunny side up with a ketchup smiley' was her favorite breakfast item. A huge smile came to her face as she knew that Asad had cooked the breakfast. He had also got a sorry card and flowers for her.
Asad sat there looking at Zoya. "Why are you looking at me like this?" "I did not know ki Lizzie brain could be so intelligent and understanding. I had never expected you to say those things you said last night." "Why not? I have taken after ammi." "Oh so you are understanding like chachi toh chachu nasamajh hain?" "Asad aapko sharm aani chahiye apne sasur ka mazaak banate hue." "Zoya he is my father in law and every son in law ka haq hota hai jaise bahu ka haq hota hai saas ki burai karna." "Alirght jo bhi hai. Asad I want you to take time and look for a good job. I am not saying because of some stupid resaon like being jealous of Tanveer. We have time ab aisa toh nahi hai that we will go back and our family will tell us to live separately." Asad promised Zoya that he would not rush into any job. They had to catch the afternoon flight for Bhopal. A surprise awaited them at the airport.
