I think we have to understand as the audience that we have seen him crushed in his own destruction, we have seen how upset and sad he was. But remember, Nandini has only figured this out now, her feelings are raw, she didn't know anything about it. In her head all time it has been "Nandini mission accomplished" and that has tormented her.
Think back to how we felt when Manik broke her, that is where Nandini is right now. But in time, when she sees how badly broken Manik is, she will soften, after all, she does love him.
