Bollywood often banks on the chemistry that the lead pair shares to make the movie a success. Be it Amitabh-Rekha, Anil-Madhuri, Shah Rukh-Kajol, Akshay-Katrina, Salman-Sonakshi, Akshay-Sonakshi, Ranbir-Deepika or SRK-Deepika, winning pairs have always had a great track record at the box office.
It becomes especially important for an actress to have good chemistry with a successful hero which ensures a few plum projects in her kitty. However, from among her contemporaries, Sonam Kapoor is yet to find her on-screen partner. Deepika Padukone, Sonakshi Sinha, and even actresses from the younger lot are quickly pairing up with actors who they have either worked with multiple times or have signed multiple projects with them. Sonam, however, hasn't been features against any hero multiple times. The only two exceptions being Abhishek Bachchan, with whom she worked in Delhi 6 and Players and Abhay Deol, who starred opposite her in Aisha and Raanjhanaa.
Debut duo
Sonam made her debut with Ranbir Kapoor in Saawariya, however the movie failed to work at the box office and hence filmmakers didn't bother to repeat it again. Deepika Padukone, whose debut movie Om Shanti Om released on the same day as Saawariya, not only went on to do more movie with SRK (her co-star in OSO), but has also made a formidable jodi with Ranbir.
No Seniors
Sonakshi Sinha, who made her debut with Dabangg in 2010, went on to act in many money spinners opposite senior actors like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan. Deepika too has worked with senior actors like SRK, Akshay, and Saif Ali Khan. The two actresses got to work on some big budget movies all because of the actors cast opposite them, something that Sonam missed out on. She is now acting in her first movie with Salman Khan - Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo.
Fails
While Sonam's movies with Abhay - Aisha and Raanjhanaa - did well at the box office, filmmakers weren't interested in casting them together. Also, her projects with Abhishek - Delhi 6 and Players - and Mausam, which had Shahid Kapoor opposite her failed at the box office. And no one wants to repeat a failed jodi.
Gaayab Guys
Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur are all paired with actresses they made star debuts with - Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra and Shraddha Kapoor. Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor too haven't been been cast in any project opposite her.
Her Hits
Of her recent movies, though Bewakoofiyaan failed to do well, Raanjhanaa, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Khoobsurat have done great business despite them no featuring any superstar opposite her. Raanjhanaa and Khoobsurat had her in pivotal roles and the fact that they did well has worked in her favour.
Future Films
Sonam will be seen in Dolly Ki Doli that has her playing a con artist and will reviolve around her. The biggie in Sonam's kitty is obviously Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo that will see her opposite Salman and will be directed by Sooraj Barjatya. It remains to be seen whether the actress will work though her Bollywood innings without forming a jodi with any of her heroes, or she find a partner soon...
