You pen this down so wonderfully Doc - The role of Cabir's mom, including her thoughts and words in these recent episodes have really come to a foreplay with Cabir sharing his secret. For any mother, it is in her to protect her child, be it in acceptance or away from the world. Her dynamics have surely changed - We've always seen her laughing, smiling, sharing a banter with Cabir, and some really sweet moments, but with Cabir being gay, it has changed - not entirely, but she doesnt want Cabir to be looked upon differently, or outcasted, no mother wants that! I understand her, and her accepting Cabir, making sure that the world will also accept him is one of the most real things in this show - its relatable, yet something you look up to. Kudo's to MTV and the show!

Dee where were you? You and Shriya do bB and tennis. Love reading!
I feel her pain..There is no greater pain than seeing your child in pain. Physical scars heal but emotional and mental trauma are so difficult to predict and protect. I hope they focus on this story and if handled well along with a helpline it can be elevated to another level

This was such a great read. :-)
& yes, Cabir's mom's reaction is completely realistic, and I'm glad the writers kept it so, without any excessive melodrama. It's exactly the reaction I'd expect from my parents if I were to tell them tomorrow that I was homosexual. Alternative sexuality is easy to empathise with in theory, but when someone we love comes out, it is often our fear for their social ostracisation that wins out, and fear makes us all irrational.
I'm even more glad that Cabir wasn't really surprised at his mom's inability to understand him- he's giving her much-needed time and space, and he's pretty secure that she will cope with it. Now that's a beautiful mother-son relationship if I ever saw one- it's based on mutual respect, trust and understanding. Kudos to the writers for keeping this so grounded in reality, yet so touching.

P.S- I love your username. Khatarnaak and tragic at the same time. 😆

Doc 🤗

I was all gum-nam this weekend...Had gone to Boston, just came back yesterday late. I am sure Ive missed out on a lot of things here. Missed you guys, and even on my way there & back, I was thinking of the AT. Shriya and I are soul sisters 😆

And if anyone who would be able to express exactly what Cabir is going through, it would be YOU Doc. She has obviously gone through her shares of trouble, as a single mother, and hence, the insecurity, and the fear that Cabir's truth brings with it only scares her further - I love that even a character like hers has so much depth! Maybe we'll get a light to her past...but most importantly, I want to see how she goes about this...She will fight the world for Cabir, like any mother would.

Hey you...I like Ann Boleyn loads she is one if my fav historical characters. So apt that her daughter became the queen

Nice point about Cabir and his moms understanding. Cabir is such a fantastic character. I'm hoping they take time for this track.

WOW!
SPEECHLESS!
I am totally in awe of Erma Bombeck and you for such a spot on analysis in regards to a mothers emotions...I wish I had the words and the ability to express like you just did...awesome!
👏

Cabir's mom's reactions all stem from fear for Cabir and the reaction of the society. Deep love for her son has instinctively raised all protective instincts inside her making her unable to assimilate that and it's place in reality. What she would like versus what is possible...

It's these innumerable thought provoking moments during this journey with all these characters that makes this drama stand above the rest...

What a pity that MTV does not have a wider audience because this is one drama people need to watch.

Thank you for this post. I have to admit it has to be one of those that I will always remember because of how much I enjoyed reading it and how much I connected to it...thanks!

Hey you...you've read Erma? Brilliant.
Thank you for your kind words. As a mom this track has touched me so much. MaNan are great for fangurling but this gives it such an original flavour. I agree this requires to reach a broader audience..maybe word of mouth.

No... Have not read it but I wish I had when my father suggested it . I will now after your post!
😛
MaNan has it's own big place within this drama since they make all the heavy subjects palatable and easier to absorb. They remind me of the sugar that my mom used to give with a bitter tablet...
Being a mother myself makes it heart wrenching to see this track but I have to give due acknowledgement for a well presented track.

We fear what we do not understand and this is exactly what Cabir's mom feels. Her love for her son is intact but its the fear of the unknown that makes her wary.
As a single mother, a divorced mom, she has probably faced social stigma and taunts and as a parent you want to protect your child from all those taunts that you faced. And being gay is a bigger social stigma than being a single divorced mom.

I love how this show interweaves, all sorts of social commentary in without being preachy and moralistic. It just acts as an extrapolation of society with some cinematic liberty.

I agree Adhira am just waiting for her to accept this and then she will be magnificent. Moms are bas
