Indian Idol host Mini Mathur wants to attempt stand-up comedy. So much so, that she's even written herself an act

Everyone knows her as the cheery anchor of Indian Idol, but few know that Mini Mathur is passionate about writing as well.

"I was itching to write and have always believed in putting my thoughts down on paper.

Even though I enjoy having conversations and love doing live events, writing has also been a big passion," she says.

So much so, that she recently completed a stand-up comedy act she wrote in her free time. "I am a great fan of stand-up comedy.

In fact, in the early days of my pregnancy a few years ago, I enrolled myself at a comedy club in Chicago (USA). The experience was fantastic and taught me many things," adds the livewire lady.

Multi-tasking

Now that her writings are complete, performing for a live audience will be the next step. "I want to share this work with others and see how they react to it.

However, the comedy I am taking about is not the Laughter Challenge sorts, but subtle and intelligent. I love the creative process of sitting down with a pen and paper and coming up with situations I want to enact."

Supporting her in this endeavour is long-time friend and former MTV colleague Cyrus Sahukar. "He kept telling me to channel my creativity, so when he finally heard my ideas and knew the direction I was taking, he was very excited," says Mini.

Apart from writing light comedy, Mini also wants to do some serious writing. " Sometimes I wonder if I should join politics. I think anyone and everyone who can think and has the sensibility to address an issue can write and express himself wells."

A new direction?

What does her director husband Kabir Khan think of her new love? "He isn't shocked at all! I wake up each morning with a new idea I want to try.

I've told him that I want to direct some day. There are a couple of film ideas in my head that I'm toying with at the moment, but I definitely will turn to direction in the future," she adds.

Does this leave her time for hosting TV shows? "Of course! Facing the camera is my first love and I will always keep doing that."
