Friends, it was quite a good episode yesterday because of some glimpses of terrific acting and dialogue from most of the actors involved in the drama of the "Salim vs. Kadir" case.
I thought Jalal was superb in showing the demeanour of a very angry Shahenshah bending to nothing in the pursuit of "insaaf". But the situation was such that we could only get to see a one-dimensional Rajat .. ie. anger was the only one emotion he portrayed yesterday (although he showed many shades of that anger). In the tarazu scene, there was scope for some more mixed emotions but the Creatives chose to keep Jalal throughout in the angry mode, so we did not get to see his usually well done leaps between emotions. I could call his performance yesterday very powerful but a bit monochromatic.
Salim was excellent too as a mouth-quivering piece of frightened jelly! But it made me feel terribly upset that he overheard just the one bit of Jodha and Jalal's argument near the tarazu when Jodha was saying to Jalal, "Okay, do as you think fit and punish Salim if he is due for punishment". He did not hear his mother ask for leniency because he was a child and it was just an accident. He did not hear his mother then say "Remember he is the same insaaf-respecting boy who asked you not to crush those two kaidis under elephants the other day". All he heard was his mother joining hands with his father and declaring him due for punishment. So what did he do? He ran to the fake-friend Badi Ammi and cried into her lap for support, whereupon the wicked witch instantly saw her phayda in the whole situation! "My first fateh on Jodha" she said to herself in triumph! Grrr!😡😡😡😡😡
Jodha was pretty good at the tarazu, because her performance was a bit more varied in emotions than that of Rajat. She had to flit between being the mother and the queen and she did it well. And I liked the way she didn't flinch even when Jalal shouted back at her to start thinking like an MUZ and not a mother. What she wanted to say she said. She supported Jalal in his actions but also said he should think through fully before acting. In his present state of anger, Jalal needed to hear those words of caution.
I have to give some appreciation to Ruq ... though my heart is against it. See folks, all said and done, she stuck to her guns on behalf of Salim, and showed her own conviction in her stand by using a bow and arrow in the Diwan-e Aaam, even knowing arms are forbidden there. She braved the repercussions and took a stand. For that we have to accept she was coming across powerfully. But when we question why she is supporting Salim, that is when the ground under her feet starts shaking! her conviction in her stand is based on cheap gains she hopes to get eventually!
I simply loved it when Jalal declared - not once but twice -that she should be arrested for carrying arms in forbidden territory, and even her own pleas that she was demonstrating an accident fell on deaf ears for Jalal was more than angry with the whole situation and surely did not see anything funny about an arrow missing his ear by millimetres! But in this scene, folks where was the need for Jodha to try and argue as Ruq's defence lawyer that what Ruq did had its merits? Totally totally unnecessary!
For the rest, the other two parts I liked were again the dialogues of Nadira (at the Diwan e Aam and also later to her mother when she again mulishly defended her actions) ... and I also liked that introduction of that bit of disguised jasoosi Jalal did spying on Kadir's house and his distraught grandma. The grandma however did massive overacting!
Overall it was an episode on expected lines since the spoiler article gave away the whole story.
