Part 7

Ishita had barely slept that night and had stayed awake till almost 3 am, completing the report. Even though it was due on Wednesday, she finished it beforehand, since she was very sincere about her work and did not believe in leaving things for the last minute.

It was a bright and sunny morning. Ishita got up feeling groggy. Her eyes clearly showed lack of sleep and exhaustion. However, in spite of all this, she proceeded with her chores for the day. After taking a bath, she got dressed. She decided on a blue shirt and a pair of charcoal-coloured trousers and tied up her hair in a ponytail. She looked as fresh as a flower, her face showing no signs of the toil she underwent.

Ishita reached the reception area of her office after punching-in for the day. She greeted Simran.

Ishita - Good morning

Simran - Good morning, ma'am

Ishita - Offo! Don't call me ma'am please! Just call me Ishita!

Simran - Oh alright. Good morning, Ishita

After chatting with Simran for a while, she headed to her working desk. Raman, on the other hand had already reached office before her and was waiting for her to arrive. He stood behind the glass partition in his cabin; looking through the blinds occasionally to check for her arrival. On seeing her, he signalled Sarika, to tell her to meet him. She entered his cabin and Raman's eyes widened with joy.

Raman (to himself) - Oh Ishita! I must say that you have a great dressing sense! Anything you wear makes you look hot! But still why do you tie up that hair of yours? Open hair make you look so sensuous and seductive!

Ishita - Mr President, you called?

Raman - Yes Ishita. I hope that you haven't forgotten about the report and presentation tomorrow

Ishita - Yes, Mr President. I have completed both the things before schedule

Raman was shocked. He did not expect the work to get completed so soon. He guessed that she must have stayed up the previous night completing it. However, he seemed to notice no signs of tiredness.

Raman (thinking) - Wow Hottie! You really are something! I created so much trouble for you. In spite of that you completed everything! And that too before schedule! I will surely have to think of something else! (to Ishita) - Well the thing is that Ishita, you will have to present it today itself!

Ishita was shocked at the sudden change in plan. She wasn't expecting this to happen!

Ishita - But Mr President! I have not prepared at all! How can I present like this!

Raman - I have told you this before as well, it is an order not a request! I will give you an hour to prepare if you wish but you must present it today!

Ishita - Mr President, may I know the reason for this sudden decision?

Raman - That is for me to know and you to guess. Now go and prepare, I want to see you in the conference room in one hour!

Ishita nodded in approval and left the cabin on the verge of crying. Raman was giving her a very hard time.

Ishita (to herself) - How can he do this? President ho company ke toh kuch bhi kar sakte ho kya! He is evil, selfish and his only aim is to see me breakdown. But I will not let that happen. He hasn't seen the real side of Ishita Iyer! I will show you what I am worth!

Raman on the other hand was waiting in his cabin, as an evil grin graced his face. He knew that preparing for a presentation in one hour was a tough thing to do. However, his only aim was to get back at Ishita for his insult. She had bruised his ego and no one had ever dared to that! He wondered how the entire presentation would pan out.

Raman (to himself) - Oh Ishita, I want to see the pain on your face after you fail at that presentation! I will be truly victorious then!

Suddenly, Shagun entered the cabin. She hugged him tightly and noticed the grin.

Shagun - Kya hua, Raman? Such an evil smile, kisi ko marne ka iraada hai kya?

Raman - Haan bas yun hi samajh lo! I have a murderous streak today!

Shagun - Who is your victim then? Sarika? Parmeet? Or your receptionist Simran?

Raman did not want her to know of any of his intentions with respect to Ishita. And definitely, it would be better if she didn't have any knowledge of his hatred cum fantasies of her. He wanted Ishita's existence in Shagun's eyes to be only limited to her being an employee.

Raman - Arre koi bhi nahi. Mere gym ka boxing bag was my victim today. I just kept punching it. And after I go home today, I want to punch it more

Shagun - Oh okay! I thought kiski shaamat aayi hai aaj. Anyways, you continue with your work. I have to go talk to Parmeet regarding some work

An hour had passed by swiftly and Ishita had managed to prepare herself pretty well. She proceeded towards Raman's cabin when she met Sarika.

Sarika - Oh hi Ishita. Kya hua? Why are you in so much tension?

Ishita - Hi Sarika, Mr President asked me to show the presentation today which I was supposed to tomorrow. Isiliye tensed hoon nothing else. Tell me, does he trouble you also like this?

Sarika - No not all. But I must say that I have noticed a difference in his behaviour after you joined. He is easily distracted and very irritable. I wonder why

Ishita (to herself) - He must be plotting against me, what else? Doesn't he have other things like his family or Shagun to worry about? (to Sarika) - Oh achcha. Anyways, I gotta go otherwise he will kill me!

She entered his cabin. Raman told her to sit while he attended to some urgent work. After sometime, both of them headed to the conference room. The peon helped Ishita set up the projector. She noticed that among the numerous chairs in the conference room, only one chair was occupied.

Ishita - Mr President, is anyone else going to be here apart from you?

Raman - No Ms Ishita, only I will be present here. Now could you please start with your presentation?

Ishita opened the presentation file on her laptop. The first introductory slide read MARKETING - Perception and Understanding by Ishita Singh'. She began by saying that how marketing was very important to ensure the sale of a product.

Ishita - Marketing is more than advertising or selling. It is a complex process involving three steps: (1) determine what customers want or need; (2) supply the customer with the goods and services to satisfy these wants and needs; (3) do so at a price that shows a profit to the business. Good marketing starts before a product is produced or a service delivered.

First, determine if there is a market for the product or service. This is one of the most critical questions for any business. Then, analyze the market to understand customers, competitors and the supply network. Next, look closely at the product or service. Try to be as objective as possible. Ask the following questions:

  • Is the product or service in constant demand? Is there a need?
  • How many competitors provide the same product or service?
  • What is your competitive advantage?
  • Can a demand for the product or service be created?
  • Can the business compete in price, quality and services?
  • Can the product or service be priced to generate the projected profit?

Business is profit and risk. Understanding the market can lessen the risk. To be successful in business, identify the target market, determine benefits customers perceive to be important, and communicate those benefits to potential customers.

(I really have no idea about Marketing or anything since I am a Science student and it is like trying to learn Hebrew for me! So forgive me if I have written anything out of context as I have copied this from some website)

As Ishita spoke, Raman kept looking at her lips. He noticed that she had a slight pout every time after finishing a sentence. He was hardly listening to what she spoke but rather kept admiring her womanly form. All the features on her face were perfect; her big, rounded brown eyes, her slightly sharp nose and a pair of lips that could even put Angelina to shame! He noticed her broad but slender shoulders. They made clothes look really good on her while wondering how halters would look on her. His eyes flicked at her two rounded, well-shaped and well-placed breasts. Perfect!' he thought. Her waist was slim and slender and her slightly broad hips were perfectly in line with her shoulders. Perfect hour-glass!' his mind spoke. Meanwhile, Ishita went on with the presentation, unaware that she had lost his attention.

Ishita - Market perception is the consumer response to a company's products and services. A company with positive perception may be considered to offer products and services with good value, and to be a sound buy for investors. Negative impressions indicate that consumers and investors do not view a firm favorably. Companies can use a variety of tools to research consumer response and develop plans for improving their position in a given market. Consumer impressions of firms play a key role in their success. A company with products and services considered to be of superior quality and value can earn a higher market share, and may attract interest in new endeavors as it expands. This is particularly important when market mavens, people believed to have an inside track on information, have a positive perception of a company. Early adopters in the tech industry, for example, can determine whether a new product catches on or is ignored by consumers.

Afte completing her presentation, she asked him if he had any questions. Raman, who had been distracted by Ishita's beauty, snapped of his merriment. He saw Ishita looking at him intently and was embarrassed to be caught unawares. Though he had been paying full attention in the beginning, he got lost in her eloquence and couldn't stop himself from thinking about her further. He was truly left smitten by this girl, who was a combined package of good looks and an amazing mind. But every time he felt this way about her, he reminded himself about the insult.

Raman - Well, Ishita that was an amazing presentation! You prepared very well for the limited amount of time you had! Very impressive!

Ishita (to herself) - Thank God! He at least liked it. I proved him wrong again! (to Raman) - Thank you, Mr. President! I am glad that you appreciated it!

Raman - Okay Ishita, you may leave now. Oh wait, what about the report?

Ishita - I have it on my laptop and need to print it out. Is it fine if I give it to you by evening?

Raman - Okay, evening is fine

Ishita disconnected her laptop from the projector and left the room. Raman kept sitting in the same place and could not stop smirking.

Raman - Ishita the Hottie! Aur kitna deewana banaogi? Jitna bhi tumhe niche laane ki koshish karta hoon, utna hi tum oopar uthkar aati ho! But even I won't give up! I will keep trying till I have shown you your place!

Ishita was pleased and had a wide smile on her face. She was at her desk, taking print outs of the report when Sarika and Simran came there.

Sarika - Hi Ishita! How was the presentation?

Ishita - Sarika, kya batau, it was awesome! Mr. President praised it so much! (to herself) - And I shut his mouth proving that I could do it!

Simran - Arre tell me also, kya hua tha?

Sarika then told Simran the entire story.

Simran - Oh okay, congrats Ishita

The trio continued talking and Sarika invited Ishita to have lunch at her desk. They kept chatting, laughing and making merry. Raman could easily see the three women from his cabin and smirked looking at Ishita's carefree and smiling face.

Raman - I promise myself, Ishita that one day I will take that smile away from your face!

Lunch break soon got over and Ishita was heading towards her desk when she met her father and told him about everything that happened. He patted her head and told her good going beta'. Raman saw this from the cabin and felt a little envious seeing all the love between them, as some memories flashed by. He could not help but notice the special bond that Ishita and her father shared. It would definitely pain her father to know about all the suffering he was inflicting on his daughter. But she would never tell her father anything at any cost.

The day at the office went by quickly. It was evening and Ishita took the report to his cabin.

Ishita - Mr. President, here is the report

Raman took the huge stack of papers which was the result of her hard work.

Ishita - Okay, Mr. President. I will take my leave

Raman - Wait Ishita, you think I will let you leave my cabin without giving you more work? Here take this file. It has all the things you need to know for your conference call on Friday. Make sure you read it and make your own file on similar lines. You need to make a budget for your department and hand it over to me at the earliest.

Raman then gave her some more work while she nodded in response. She was irritated but had no other choice.

Raman - Okay Ishita, you may leave

Part 8

The day of the conference call finally arrived. Ishita got up to a fresh morning; the day marked the end of the first week for her at Raman's company. The prospect of the weekend made her very happy as she would not have to see his face for the next two days. He had troubled her a lot over the past two days by calling her to his cabin for assigning work apart from other unnecessary things. Not to mention, his stares had made her feel slightly uncomfortable. So she was happy although she had to wait till late in the office. Since today was Friday, she could dress-up a little casually. She opened her cupboard.

Ishita - Hmm...so what should I wear?

Ishita had a few clothes which she had bought just a while back. She decided to wear a pair of black skinny jeans with a blue formal top. She went to breakfast table where her father and Mihika were sitting.

Ishita - Good morning, Appa and Mihika

Both - Good morning

Madhvi had made vegetable sandwiches for them. Ishita took one on her plate.

Ishita - Amma and Appa, I will get late today

Madhvi - Aiyyo beta, but why?

Ishita - The thing is that I have a conference call with a vendor from America today. And since morning there means night here, I will have to wait till at least 10 pm. Usse zyada bhi late ho sakta hai

Madhvi - Aiyyo, itna late! When will you eat dinner?

Ishita - Don't worry about it. I'll eat out or something. And Appa, can I take the car today? It will get late na. Also, we can go together!

Vishwanathan - Ha beta, no problem. We will go together now, and you can get the car back home later

Madhvi - But why don't you wait with her in office? You can come home with her later also na?

Vishwanathan - I have a lot of work to attend to. We have the society committee meeting at 8pm.

Madhvi - Aapka kaam kitna badh gaya hai. Why don't you just resign from the committee?

Bharamal - Madhvi, I can't do that. I have taken the responsibility so I will fulfill it. I will complete my full term and only then I can think of leaving it

Ishita looked at her father with pride. She had inherited it from him; not to backtrack on any responsibility given. This was the only reason she was able to deal with Raman at office.

Mihika - Amma, I am going for a party at a friend's house tonight. And it will get late so I will crash at her place

Madhvi - Aiyyo! You also? Now for whom will I cook?

Vishwanathan - Chhodo na yeh sab! Madhvi, don't make anything. We will also eat outside

Vishwanathan took the car keys and both of them left the house. They reached the office in sometime and he told Ishita to go punch-in for the day while he parked the car.

Simran - Hey Ishu, Good morning! You are looking so hot today!

Ishita was slightly embarrassed at the comment. However, she smiled and greeted Simran and complemented her as well.

The atmosphere in office on Friday was entirely different than the rest of the days. For once, it was more relaxed. Probably because a long break over the weekend was awaited by everyone and also many people had their plans to go out and chill in the evening. But not for Ishita, today marked the end of the first week at office, yet she had to wait back for some conference call! She was slightly bugged at the thought but then the lesser she thought about it the better. She went to Raman's cabin to report for the day.

Ishita - Mr President, may I come in?

Raman - Ishita, yes come in

Ishita entered his cabin and sat on one of the chairs. Raman's eyes were gleaming.

Raman - Good morning, Ishita. I hope you remember that you have the conference call today. Did you prepare the file as I told you to?

Ishita - Yes Mr President. Here it is

Ishita took out the file and handed it over to him. He opened the file to check its contents and continued reading it for a while.

Raman - Very good, Ishita. You have covered all the points that are required. But make sure that you convince the vendor on all counts. I hope that you will manage to do that

Ishita - Okay

She took the file and left his cabin. Raman kept staring at her delicate form.

Raman - I have been hypnotized by you Ishita! You never fail to disappoint me!

The first half of the day went by in a blur. Ishita was busy preparing for the conference call and made a list of the points she would put forward during the call. Occasionally, Raman came near the glass partition and looked at her, but she did not notice. Apart from that, she also did the other work he had assigned her. She was busy preparing the budget for her department. By lunch time, she had finished half the work and decided to have lunch with Sarika and Simran. They shared their lunch and chatted with each other. Her lunch break got over and went to her desk, continuing her work uninterrupted till about 6 pm. As she typed out the final sentences of her report, her father came.

Vishwanathan - Ishita beta, listen

Ishita - Yes Appa

Vishwanathan - Ishita, your chithappa is in the hospital

Ishita - But why?

Vishwanathan - He was standing on the stool and putting the clothes for drying. He lost his balance and fell down. He has fractured his leg and his hand.

Ishita - Which hospital has he been admitted in?

Vishwanathan - Nanavati Hospital

Ishita - Achcha, so you will you and Amma be going to see him? What about Mihika?

Vishwanathan - Yes we will be going. We have told Mihika not to worry and she is going to attend the party as well. But beta, there is one thing

Ishita - Yes Papa, what is it?

Vishwanathan - I will need the car, beta. I am so sorry. You will have to go home in alone

Ishita - Okay Papa, I will arrange for something. You don't worry. But what about the committee meeting?

Vishwanathan - Don't worry about that, I have told them that there is an emergency and I cannot make it and they understand. Beta, here take the house keys. We will be getting late and Mihika will not return till tomorrow so keep it with you. Also, please eat something, don't remain hungry. Keep calling us at intervals, okay?

Ishita - Okay, Papa don't worry. I will call. And do tell me how chithappa is, okay?

Vishwanathan - Okay beta, anyways I need to go now. I will pick up Amma and we will go. I will inform you of his condition once I get there

With that, he left the office. Ishita was tensed; she needed to make arrangements to reach home but couldn't afford to schedule the conference call for another day, since Raman would not take any excuse.

Ishita - Let me think about this later, I will first concentrate on completing this

Ishita finished the rest of the work and went to Raman's cabin. She handed him over the budget papers.

Raman - So you finished this work, huh?

Ishita - Yes, Mr President

Raman - Okay, but what about the other work I assigned you?

Ishita - In progress, Mr President. What time is the conference call scheduled for? I am feeling very hungry

Raman - In 30 mins Ishita! You need to grab a bite quickly, go!

Ishita - Okay, Mr President, I will be back in a jiffy!

Ishita hurriedly left the cabin and ran to the office canteen. She wanted to eat a proper dinner but since time did not permit it, she just decided to have a sandwich. Raman, on the other hand was smiling in a devilish manner.

Raman - Oh Ishita! You are so nave! You believed me, but there is still about an hour remaining. Let's see how far you can go hungry!

Ishita waited at her desk in anticipation of the call. She had hardly eaten a thing and was still pretty hungry. She sipped from the bottle, waiting patiently all the while. The office started emptying out, with some were heading back to their homes and some to a restaurant or a pub. Ishita was getting restless by each passing second while trying to remember what she was supposed to say. Soon, she was the only one remaining in office. She bid good bye to Sarika, saying that she would meet her on Monday. Raman kept a watch on her from his cabin and smirked. She looked a little tired but was fine.

Time passed by and it was 9 pm. Ishita's conference call, which she thought was scheduled much earlier finally took place. She spoke to the vendor, an American woman called Tracy. She told her about their company and all the points she had rehearsed with difficulty. Finally, the call came to an end, the vendor saying that she liked the points that Ishita put forward and would get back to her soon. Once the call got over, she heaved a sigh of relief. Not only was she terribly hungry and tired, she also desperately wanted to get home.

Ishita - Oh no! Papa has taken the car! How do I get home now?

Raman, who was witnessing the entire conference call from his cabin, came out. He was surprised as to how Ishita managed to make it through the call in such a condition. She kept surprising him every time but it also made him realize her victory. This made his will to defeat her even stronger. He walked towards her, who was getting ready to leave and was highly tensed,

Raman - So how was the call?

Ishita - It was great Mr President! She will get back to me soon!

Raman - What happened, why are you so tensed?

Ishita - Nothing, I am just tired

She did not want him to know anything and wanted to go about solving her problem by herself. Besides, she really couldn't trust her arch nemesis.

It was almost 10 pm and she decided to hail a cab. She tried catching one but getting a cab from Lower Parel to Mahim was not easy. After asking at least five cab drivers, she only got refusals. Out of frustration and hunger, she decided to call for a prepaid taxi service when a black Mercedes stopped right in front of her. The glass of the car rolled down and she saw Raman in the car.

Raman - What are doing here at this time? Get into my car, I will drop you home

Ishita - Let it be Mr President, I will go home by cab. Anyways, you stay in South Mumbai and I have to go in the opposite direction.

Raman - Are you mad? Just get in

She sat in the front seat, while the excitement brimmed on his face. The last time she sat in his car, Mihika and the chauffeur had been there. But this time, it was jst the both of them!

Raman - So why were you taking a cab? Gaadi kharab ho gayi kya?

Ishita - It did not breakdown, Mr President. Appa had to take it somewhere urgently

He gave a slight smile while she looked out the window, not wanting to strike up any further dialogue and wondering whether she could trust this man. He, on the other hand, was very happy; his Hottie' was with him after all! All the while he drove, his gleaming eyes kept taking looks at her.

Raman (to himself) - I didn't even get to admire her completely in her clothes today! She looks so sexy even when she is covered! Her figure is the best! Oh I want to just park the car somewhere and kiss her wildly!

Ishita - What happened, Mr President? Is something wrong?

Raman was embarrassed to be caught staring at her. He turned away and kept his eyes on the road. Ishita gave him the directions and they reached her apartment complex. She was surprised that she reached home in one piece.

Ishita - Thank you, Mr President

Raman - Its okay, Ishita. I couldn't let you go alone

She turned around to go while he waited till she entered the elevator. Something struck her suddenly and she went back to his car.

Ishita - Mr President?

Raman - Yes, Ishita

Ishita - We have a tradition, if someone comes to our house for the first time, we don't let them go empty stomach

Raman - Ishita, there is no need for that

Ishita - Please, Mr President. I insist. Also, you helped me when I needed it. So, I have to return the favour

Raman - Okay, let me just park

She waited for him in the lobby. She had decided to take him home only because he had dropped her home safely and she was very grateful to him.

Raman parked the car and headed towards the lobby of Ishita's building.

Raman - Wow! Didn't expect this from her! Didn't she say her father was out or something? But then her mother must be home right? That's why she must have told me to come over. But still even if no one was at home, she would be too innocent to imply anything underhanded. Oh Ishita! An empty house with only both of us is all I need!

Raman met Ishita in the lobby and they entered the lift.

Precap - Raman and Ishita alone in her house.
