Chapter 17(Madhu's POV)
The spot lights dimmed, creating a warm, intimate ambience between the two. Everything ceased to make the slightest movement. A song played softly in the background, as RK danced with his heroine. She was pretty, but she danced terribly. Like each move was forced. RK was having a hard time handling her. One step involved a twirl and a dip, but she broke her heel and fell right on the hard floor. RK became so fed up with her tacky dance skills that he let go of her as she slipped.
"Cut!" The director yelled. Everything began moving again.
She glared at RK while he smirked at her plight. I found myself laughing as well.
"A little help?" She hissed. RK pretended he didn't hear her. Mr. Bakshi rushed to help her.
"I'm so sorry ma'am..." He said.
Makeup and hairdressers rushed about the set. My gaze was fixated on RK. What was I doing here again? Oh yeah...I had to give him his lucky locket. I was just about to approach him when the lights dimmed again. The director cued the next take, and the scene started once again.
The chandelier looked dangerous from where I was seeing it. It seemed to have lowered even more than when I first showed up. My heart pounded in my chest. I sensed something bad was going to happen.
(RK's POV)
God...this Dipali was such a terrible dancer. I preferred even a body double over her. And she seemed like a total despo...she threw herself over me like she was a rag doll. She made my head hurt, and the song was annoying me as well. I finally yelled...
"Pack Up!" I was done for today.
I pulled off my jacket and went towards my vanity can when suddenly Mr. Bakshi stopped me from leaving my place. He folded his hands in front of me.
"RK sir! Please don't pack up!" He pleaded. I didn't give a crap.
"Find me a new heroine...then we'll talk." I said. I began to leave again, but then Madhu showed up out of nowhere.
She came up to me, holding something in her hand. I looked into her eyes. Hidden deep inside them was remorse and shame. I tried to be as positive as possible. No more headaches, arguments, or despo heroines trying to seduce me. I took a deep breath and spoke.
"What are you doing here Madhu?" I asked. She chewed on her lip for a while then answered.
"I came to give you this." She opened her fist. There lied my locket. I took it from her.
"Who gave this to you?" I hadn't realized that I had forgotten it.
"One of your servants. He told me you always take it to the first day of a shoot. It's your lucky charm, isn't it?" I nodded.
"Thanks." She turned to leave, while Bakshi tried to force the script into my hand. I tried to shoo him away, giving him the most venomous glare I had ever manifested. But he didn't budge.
"RK please look at the script! We need to finish the shoot today!" He pleaded. I swear I saw him tear up. I groaned loudly and submitted to his request.
"Go tell your heroine to behave. And not to throw herself on me like a sl*t. I'm not a f***ing clothes line!" I shouted in his face, beyond furious. He nodded frantically and ran off towards Dipali's vanity. I peered around for Madhu, finding her nearby. She was talking to Bittuji. Her single sight calmed me down, like her demeanor slowly rubbed onto me. I lost myself in her once again.
(Madhu's POV)
Bittuji left to get me some coffee. I got bored and wandered around. I found RK staring at me from a distance. He broke the gaze each time I looked at him, but I caught him from a mirror that passed by in the hands of some crewmen. I thought about the kiss, especially my behavior over it. I overreacted. And who was I to blame him? I did kiss him back. We were both lost in the moment. And to be honest, I did like it a little. Unlike Armaan, he never did anything that I truly objected to. He was always sweet with me.
I gasped at my own thoughts. Did I feel something for him? I was spending more personal time with him, rather than carry out this revenge story. That story already ended, as Armaan was in jail. Maybe now it was the start of something new...
The heroine, whom I later found out was named Dipali, walked into the back. She looked guilty of something. She quietly entered the back door, and disappeared. Something wasn't right. I decided to investigate, but Mr. Bakshi stopped me at the door.
"Aren't you going to see the shoot Miss Madhubala?" He asked, standing in front of the door.
"Yes...but I needed to check something..." I said, trying to bypass him.
"You can do that later...come see the shooting..." I saw beads of sweat on his forehead.
"Why are you sweating so much?"
"Oh...just the running around and heat..." He fanned himself. "Come." He grabbed my arm and dragged me back to the set. Dipali sauntered out a minute later.
The chandelier looked lower than before...odd. And it dangled more loosely as well. But it was still high enough to not be an immediate danger. I crossed my arms and watched the two dance. I didn't like it, but I watched anyways. Dipali continued to touch RK seductively, while I thought of punching her. What is wrong with you Madhu?
All of a sudden, I heard a snap from above. The cable for the chandelier broke. And now it was falling over RK and Dipali. She ran off, and ran as well, pushing RK down to the floor. It barely missed him, but it got my right foot. I shrieked in pain.
"Madhu!" RK yelled.
The crew rushed to our aid, moving the broken chandelier to the side and sweeping up the little glass pieces littering the floor. RK kneeled next to me. Glass had penetrated my foot, blood oozed out from each cut. The chandelier got me right on my foot. RK pried each piece out of my foot, blowing on it to reduced the burning. Bittuji got a first aid kit and handed it to RK. He carefully dressed the wound and carried me to the nearest chair. Someone phoned the doctor. He arrived shortly.
"Can you move your foot, Miss Malik?" I bit my lip and tried to, but I only got sharp pain in response.
The doctor pressed down in different places, asking me each time if I felt any pain. One spot was like that.
"Doctor, is she okay?" RK asked, gripping my hand.
"I need to do some x-rays. Please bring her to the hospital with me."
RK carried me to his car and secured my seatbelt. We follows the doctor to the hospital, while my foot was slowly killing me. It hurt just to move it.
We reached the hospital. RK carried me inside, not acknowledging the people who were dazed by his glimpse. He had a worry on his face that I hadn't seen since Anu's accident.
I got the x-rays done and found the problem. My foot had a hairline fracture as well. Great. Just great.
The doctor fitted a cast on my foot and ankle. RK still held my hand tightly. He was that concerned about me...let alone that he almost got crushed by a chandelier.
"Will she be okay doctor?"
"Don't worry Mr. Kundra...give it a couple weeks. She'll be fine." He turned to me. "Do take these pain medications as needed Miss Malik." He handed me the prescription.
"Thank you doctor." I said.
RK helped me up and gave me the crutches. He took extra care and precaution in taking me to his home with him. Trishna and Malik somehow heard about the incident from someone. Who it was...I don't know. They were coming to RK mansion to see me. I was talking to Malik on the phone.
"Malik...I can come there too na?"
"I don't want you to put pressure on your foot, young lady. Understand?" He scolded. I giggled. I hadn't heard him scold me for a while. I missed it.
"Alright Malik." I said. "I love you." I said.
"Love you too beta." He said, then hung up.
We reached the mansion. RK took me straight to the room. He took my crutches from me and put me on the bed, tucking me in tight. I watched me quietly as he did it. I grabbed his hand as he turned to leave.
"I'm sorry for what happened this morning RK..." I said. He stayed silent for a moment.
"It's okay Madhu. I understand." He said. He paused. " I'm going to go change."
"Okay." I said.
I sat alone and silent, until I got a message from Anu. She forcibly put her number into my phone. And it paid off. I had a girl to talk to.
"Injured like me huh? Lol." She texted. "Accident prone or superhero?"
"Superhero." I texted. "I saved RK from a falling chandelier at shoot."
"How romantic!!!! Although, it sucks that you broke your foot. At least you have crutches. I don't even have those." She replied.
I laughed to myself. This girl had the power to make anyone laugh. I wonder how Trishna would get along with her. I chatted with Anu through text, even though we were only a few rooms apart. The doorbell rang, probably Malik and Trishna. I excitedly tried to move, reaching for my crutches and limping outside. RK rushed to me and helped to the couch, where Trishna and Malik were sitting. They hugged and kissed me, while RK watched with amusement. I thought I saw a tear run down his eye.
