'I don't care about the critics' is the easiest excuse these big stars and their fans have to escape the backlash they receive for their disastrous films.

Yes. It is often a grapes are sour reaction.

I think the younger generation is a bit more attune to critics. Sonakshi and Ranveer do something like Lootera which is unlike everything else they do because they want to prove they are actors too. Deepika does an offbeat film like Finding Fanny because she wants to be seen as versatile.

The problem is most of the time critical acclaim does not equate to box office success. Finding Fanny and Lootera were nothing in comparison to Bang Bang, Kick and HNY. Even in Hollywood, a large number of movie goers haven't even heard of Oscar nominated films.

I feel many of the senior stars like SRK and Salman genuinely don't care for critics. They thrive only on fan frenzy and will willingly churn poor films if fans will still go nuts over it. It's a very different mindset from the younger stars who do try to mix it up now and then.

In the end you want all round praise. You don't want one or two critics to say its good - you want hundreds of fans to say they love it. So I think eventually commercial success trumps critics.

I don't understand why is there a clear cut division b/w the senseless rubbish and art films

Why can't a masala film be made entertainingly ? ... i'm not even talking haider but lets say YJHD, HSKD, JWM, BBB etc - mainstream masala films with acting potential, some sort of story ... just good fun films

What is this kick, dhoom3, HNY, BB rubbish ? Its like the big stars are competing to see who can make the max money with max crap.

How is it that they don't care about critics and yet accept(buy) all awards so graciously for their so called acting chops?😆
Criticism...who cares?
Award...yeah sure, why not?

Their doglapan is just amazing!😆

And then they blame audience' taste for the poor quality movies that they churn out in the name of entertainment.

Because they are actually very different genres catering to very different needs.

There are many films that capture entertainment with a good story, good acting and good execution. They make good money. However, compared to your Kick, Dhoom3, Happy New Year and Bang Bang their total revenue is marginal.

Pure entertainment films are different. The audience wants fight sequences, melodrama, cheesy dialogues, comedy, song and dance sequences etc. Makers pack as much of this together as they can in three hours. Story, acting and execution are secondary.

I guess we have not two, but three genres - the mindless entertainers, the serious cinema and the hybrid cinema. Each film has to be judged for the criteria it was made.

Salman and Akki are the only superstars who seem genuinely unperturbed by the flack from critics..they seem to acknowledge their shortcomings as performers too..Rest of the lot are obviously affected,no matter how hard they try to prove otherwise..they want commercial success ofcourse but lack of applause from critics displeases them at some level..they seem bitter though they bring in air of nonchalance in their interviews
