I'm not from India, so I don't know the rules per say. I knew being gay is a taboo in India, and gay marriage may possibly not be allowed as it isn't in many countries. However, is it actually illegal to be gay?

Actually being gay or gay marriage? The latter I'm not sure about, as for the former, well, I should hope not. It's a normal variant of human sexuality.

Being gay is absolutely completely legal in India, so is being transsexual. What is made illegal recently is homosexual marriage or sexual relationship. Which is one of the weirdest laws ever.

It's a bit murky. What the actual law states (or rather what I understood) is that if u have sex with person of same gender then it's publishable by law. It's like a "don't talk about it, then it doesn't exist" kindda thing.
Welcome to the free world. Not.

Being Gay isn't illegal in India, but yeah it isn't really looked up to as something dignified. Things are changing slowly of course, but its going to take a lot of time for people to come in terms with it.
Its the marital relationship of gays/lesbian and transgenders which is illegal.. The LGBT case is still going on though...
Gay marriages are only legal in 5-6 countries in the whole world you know..?
