CHAPTER 27. FORTY FIVE DAYS LATER!

Days passed and slowly Khushi's hand and leg healed. Geet and Rajji along with Maan took great care of her and sometimes Anjali visited to cheer her up. But the one person Khushi wanted to see never came to meet her; her Arnavji. It was not as if Arnav never visited her house. He was the one who dropped Anjali off and picked her up too. And Khushi even noticed him coming whenever police came over to talk about the development of her accident case. So why was he not coming over to meet her or talk to her? She questioned Anjali about Arnav's non-visiting too but Anjali always diverted her attention.

Of course, Khushi did not know that Arnav did not want to impose himself on a girl who had blatantly told him more than enough times that she had no interest in him. But that did not mean, he did not keep track on her. Why do you think he sent Anjali over so many times? She was his spy who would inform him about how well his lady love is improving. But there was a downfall of sending Anjali as spy. She nagged him at every spare moment to go and see Khushi with his own eyes and talk to her as she knew how much Khushi wished to see him and talk to him. But when did Arnav use his common sense? He was stubborn and he stubbornly refused to go and meet Khushi personally and impose' himself on her. Such was the situation of Arnav and Khushi's love life which continued to remain in limbo unless Khushi went and confronted Arnav which would only happen once Khushi got well and joined her job. And by the time engagement party day came up, Khushi was more than ready to go visit Arnav and give him her piece of mind.

As far as Khushi's accident case was concerned, there also the situation was as dismal as her personal life. The old leads the Police were following were dead ends and there were no new leads coming up. Police were almost ready to give up on the case even though Arnav and Maan wanted them to keep going on. But without any proper evidence or links, the case was on the verge of turning cold.

In the midst of these problems, the only thing which brought on happiness amongst the people living in the house was the planning of Maan and Geet's engagement. Khushi, Rajji, Geet and Pinky had as many sleepovers possible in Khushi's room as they figured out the details of the engagement party. Rajji wanted balloons, Pinky wanted variety in food and Khushi wanted proper engagement with ring exchange. And what Geet wanted? She wanted to be left alone with Maan. She never expected to have such a lavish party for her engagement where so many details were supposed to be taken care of. On the top of that, her input was expected at every matter. Whether it was food, theme or invitation, the girls wanted her input in everything which left Geet with very less time with Maan which in turn left Maan very frustrated and irritated. So Maan and Geet both prayed daily for the day to come as soon as possible so that they can be finally left alone to romance and talk.

If the necessary inclusion of Geet in every matter was not enough, Geet was dragged to every boutique in the town, to find the perfect lehenga for her engagement; even though Geet continued to plead that she preferred Saree over lehenga especially when she was sure that Saree would be easier in movement for the ballroom dance Khushi had planned for the engaged couple. But who cares about what Geet wants? Finally Geet had to put her foot down and firmly tell all three girls to back off and announce that she would wear what she wanted to. Once she announced this, Khushi blinked twice, smiled and retorted, "Toh pehle bolna tha na Bhabhi! Khamakhaan itna ghumaaya!" saying her piece Khushi wandered off leaving behind a flabbergasted Geet. Luckily, Maan had been spared all the drama after his glare made the three girls realize that hunting for Maan's sherwani was a job left to the man himself, especially if they did not want to face his wrath.

Then of course, there was the ring hunting day, where Maan was ready to pull out his hair and Geet had almost bitten all her nails. Why was our engaged couple so frustrated? Because when the family jeweler came over bringing variety of rings for them, Khushi rejected most of them with her reasons being - "Too gaudy, Veerji! My Bhabhi is so classy!" - "Kitna heavy hai! Bhabhi ke haath kitne naajuk hai! Bhabhi ko kya body builder samjha hai?" - "Kitna chota hai! Uncleji! Khurana khaandaan ki bahu ke liye ring dhundh rahe hai, soch samajhke anghuti dikhaayiye!" - "Hey Devi Maiyya! Maan Veerji engagement mein apni hone waali wife ko chaandi ki ring pehnaayenge? Platinum dikhaayiye! Platinum!" - "Yeh anghuti hai? Lagta hai jaise Ghulam ke Aamir Khan ke haath se leke aaye hain! Mere Veerji business tycoon hai, gunde nahi!"

Suffix to say, Geet and Maan were relieved when the day of their engagement came. Finally, they can be done with the madness and go back to their normal lives. Maan and Geet had decided to have their engagement two days after Khushi's plaster was removed so once the engagement party day passes, Khushi will join her Office and Geet and Maan can peacefully romance each other without any interruption.

The crowd clapped and cheered as Maan and Geet exchanged their rings. It was the engagement day and dressed in designer Saree and finest jewelry Geet looked beautiful and exquisite on her lucky day. Maan also looked like a King in his Sherwani. But what made most of the girls swoon in the room was the tender smile that was pasted on Maan's lips from the moment Geet entered the room and the way his eyes constantly followed Geet whether he was talking to somebody or Geet was moving from people to people making small talks. For Maan's Office staff, this was a different side of Maan they got to see and all were astonished and some were even jealous of Geet. Geet also kept on glancing at Maan coyly the whole evening.

After the engagement, people milled around the couple congratulating them and telling each of them how lucky their fianc was. Soon the crowd dispersed as Khushi announced that it was dance time. She invited couples to join the floor starting with her own brother and sister-in-law. As Maan and Geet reached the middle of the room, Khushi sighed sadly. She had been excited to dance on her brother's engagement and even had made plans with Rajji but the Doctor had dashed her hopes when he told her that for atleast one week, she was not to strain her leg as it had just come out of plaster and not used to moving.

As she looked around, Khushi's eyes locked onto Arnav standing across the room talking to someone and her heart thudded wildly at his glimpse. After not seeing him for so many days, her eyes feasted at his every aspect. His smirk, his powerful walk, him looking so delectable in his regular three piece suit; Khushi felt her breath leave her as she stared at him. Suddenly, someone tapped Arnav on the back and Khushi noticed the person to be Annie. Annie and Arnav smiled at each other and Khushi felt hurt in her heart. Humein ek baar bhi mudke nahi dekha aur Annie ko itna bada smile! She felt angry tears well up in her eyes and she wiped them off quickly.

The notes of piano filled the room and soon the song Khushi had chosen for the engagement dance followed the music.

As the music played, Khushi's eyes widened as she saw Annie ask Arnav for dance. She looked on with hurt and horror as Arnav agreed for the dance and joined Annie on the dance floor. She sat in her seat in shock as betrayal tore her heart. As Arnav and Annie danced, Khushi looked down with an unknown pain in her heart. She did not notice Arnav finally look at her properly.

As the couples continued to dance, Khushi had enough. How dare her Arnavji dance with someone else? He claimed to love her then he was supposed to ask her to dance with him! Why Annie? With determination in her eyes, Khushi got up from her seat and stormed over to Arnav and Annie. She interrupted their dance asking Annie if she could cut in. Unable to react in any other way, Annie moved away and Khushi took her place. Neither Arnav nor Khushi noticed the glare Annie sent their way as she stormed off.

The song is from Alka Yagnik and Babul Supriyo's album. I don't know much details about the song except that a music video was made on this song featuring Diya Mirza and Aakashdeep Saigal.
