MUMBAI (Reuters Life!) - Salman Khan is launching a non-profit organisation for underprivileged children which he plans to fund by selling his own paintings, a report said on Wednesday.
The maverick actor, one of the highest-paid in Bollywood, is known to be associated with various charitable causes, and will name his new organisation "Being Human".
"It will work for the benefit of neglected children," Khan, 41, was quoted as saying by the Mumbai Mirror newspaper.
"The funds for the organisation will come from my personal resources."
The actor said he would raise money by making more appearances at events and by selling paintings he creates in his free time.
"I will hold an exhibition of my paintings soon, and this time I will sell all of them," he said. Until now, Khan used to gift most of his paintings to his friends.
He said he had a large collection of artworks which he displays at home.
"I have now become very emotional about them and that created a problem, but I will sell them anyway for my organisation," he said.
Khan, considered a temperamental man many in India love to hate for his flamboyance, is facing separate trials for killing rare deer on unauthorised hunting trips and running over and killing a person in a 2002 traffic accident.
