Chapter 34
Three weeks had passed, after their last visit to the doctor.
Zoya had decided to take a break from her work which they had informed their family. The family supported Asya's decision.
Zoya has become adjusted to her new routine. She has been nauseating almost the entire day. But still she continued to take timely meals. Irrespective of how many times she threw up, she never skipped any meals. As doctor has advised rest, she preferred to stay in her room itself most of the time.
Asad has been busy with some new assignments, but still he managed to spend some time with his wife . Zoya had made it a habit to talk to her babies. She kept herself busy in reading books related to pregnancy and parenting. Though initially she used her laptop to find articles related to pregnancy, she found out that radiations of laptop as well as mobile phones are not good for the baby. And hence she decided to switch her reading from laptop to books. Neither did she use mobile often. She may call Asad once or twice in a day if he is not at home and after that she would leave her mobile with Dilshad in case anyone calls.
Zeenat come to visit Zoya frequently. Not only Zeenat Najma, Nikhat and Humeira too started visiting Zoya frequently.
Asad had to go to Bangalore for some official purpose for 6 days. Asad was really worried about Zoya's reaction when she would come to know about his trip. But Zoya's reaction was totally unpredictable. When Asad informed her about his trip, she only demanded him to be back on time as she wanted him to accompany her for next doctor's visit.
Zoya, initially was feeling sad with the thought that Asad was going out of town. But later she realised that she was not alone. Her babies, who are symbol of her and Asad's love, are with her. So she decided to cheer up.
On the day Asad was supposed to return, Zoya was more cheerful than usual. She had reasons too for the same. Mainly Asad was coming back , then she has not been feeling nausea for the past two days and hasn't even threw up a single time, And above all the most important reason for their happiness, Zoya and Asad were going to celebrate their first wedding anniversary after two days. She couldn't believe it has been a whole long year that they have been together and this one year was not less than a beautiful dream. And now Allah has blessed them with the most precious gift..their babies.
After taking bath, she was changing her dress, suddenly she noticed her reflection in the mirror. She could notice that she has actually started showing her bump. She caresses her belly and she realised that her babies are actually growing inside her.The happiness she felt was divine. She wanted to share it with Asad at that moment, but then decided to wait till his return.
When Asad returned, Zoya was having her afternoon nap after lunch. He saw her sleeping peacefully. Without disturbing her, Asad went to take a bath and then later he too joined her in bed. He slightly caresses her hair, placed a kiss on her forehead. He slowly caressed her tummy too. Zoya snuggled closer to the warmth she felt by her side in her sleep.
Zoya woke up to see Asad cuddled to her and was sleeping like a baby. She was trying not to wake him up but Asad felt her movement in sleep. He opened his eyes to see the most beautiful sight, his beautiful wife and she is smiling.
Zo : " Aashu when did you come? Why didn't you wake me up then?"
As :" Jaan You were sleeping so peacefully that I didn't feel like disturbing your sleep. And tell me how is your health now? Are you ok?"
Zo: " Of course Aashu I am more than fine. And you know what I have not been throwing up for the last two days."
As: " hey that is great news. And tell me how are my little ones?"
Asad asked Zoya keeping his hand over her tummy.
Zo : " They are also fine. And Aashu I have something to show you."
As : " What is it jaan?"
Zoya got up from the bed and then slightly pulled up her kurta so that Asad can get a view of her tummy. Asad could easily make out what she has been referring to . He caressed her tummy and so that he could feel the slight bulge.
As: " Jaan, our babies are getting bigger."
Zo :" And my clothes smaller."
As: " What?"
Zo : " What , what? Aashu I need to go for shopping. Very soon, I wont fit into these clothes."
As :" Ok then we will go jaan but after consulting with doctor. Once she gives us confirmation that you are safe enough to roam around."
Zo : " Ok. I am feeling hungry Aashu. Let me get something to eat. You need something?"
As :" No Jaan, you take rest. I will get something for you."
Next day, at hospital after check up Dr.Saira gave a green signal that Zoya can be back to her normal routine except for a few don'ts. Asad informed doctor that Zoya had decided to take a break from her office.
Zoya's reports were all normal. After sonography, doctor informed that both their babies were doing fine and everything is normal. Both were excited to see their babies and this time babies looked like babies and their hands and legs were also developed. They could hear their heart beats too.
They were very happy when they returned from hospital as their reports were normal. They informed their families also.
Dilshad had planned a small get together for Asya's first anniversary. And she had made all preparations too. The day before their anniversary Dilshad and Rashid had to go to the other side of the city for a marriage and they were supposed to be back by evening.
Before leaving Dilshad had prepared food for Zoya and specially instructed Asad to feed her on time.Asad had taken an off from work as he didn't want to leave a chance to be alone with his wife.
In the morning they went for shopping and came back by the lunch time.After lunch, they both decided to take a nap but it ended up in an intense love making session. Days of separation had made the love making more intense than usual and after that they slept in each others arms.
It was almost 7 in the evening when Asad woke up. He found Zoya still sleeping. He realised that it has been hours that Zoya hasn't taken any food after lunch. Asad remembered Dilshad's words that Zoya needed to have something in regular intervals.
He woke Zoya also and made her drink milk and eat fruits. Soon Asad received a call from Rashid that there has been some communal riots that had started in Mumbai because of which they are unable to come back that evening.
Asad switched on the news. They were reports of riots in some parts of the city because of which there has been an emergency declared by the officials.
Asad called Anwar too to make sure that he and Haider have reached home safely.
Zoya called Nikhat to make sure that both Najma and she were safe in her flat.
Asad also called Gaffur to see whether everything was fine because the report of the latest riot was near to their house. Gaffur assured that everything is fine.
Asad and Zoya had an early dinner. Zoya wanted to be awake till 12 so that they can wish each other and then go to bed. They had given order for the cake but because of the riots, the cake was not delivered.
Asad insisted that Zoya should go to bed as early as possible because he didn't want Zoya to stress herself.
He somehow put Zoya to sleep.
Asad knew Zoya wanted to celebrate their anniversary. Asad somehow managed to bake a chocolate cake and surprised Zoya by wishing her .
They both cut the cake and fed each other and then later both fell asleep in each other's arms.
Next morning, Asad woke up Zoyaby around 8 am in the morning. He had already prepared breakfast for both. They received call from almost everyone for wishing their anniversary but all were upset that they couldn't come to meet them on their special day because of riots and still the emergency situation had not been called off.
Rashid and Dilshad were staying in a hotel as they had to stop their journey in between. They too wished Asya.
After breakfast , they both spend some time with each other. They were cherishing the beautiful moments of the last one year.
After an hour Asad thought of preparing lunch for him and Zoya. As he was about to prepare lunch
Zo: " Aashu where are you going?"
As: " Jaan I am going to prepare something for lunch."
Zo: " Aashu don't worry I will prepare something special. After all it is our anniversary"
As: " But Jaan I don't think it a good idea. I don't want you to strain."
Zo: " Oh please Aashu, it will definitely be not strenuous as what we did yesterday. So let me prepare lunch."
Asad knew there was no point in aruing with her.
So he said: " Ok fine then we will prepare lunch together."
Zo :" Ok"
Zoya and Asad started preparing lunch together. Asad was just a helper where Zoya was the chef.
But as she was cooking, she started feeling nausea because of the smell of spices. But somehow she managed to prepare the food. Since Asad knew Zoya liked food when hot, he insisted that they would have lunch immediately.
Zoya was not in a mood to have food because she had a feeling that she would throw up if she had something.
As: " Jaan come and have food before it gets cold."
Zo: " Aashu, you have food. I am really not hungry."
As: " Not hungry means what? Come and have lunch Zoya."
Zo : " Aashu, please don't get angry . You know very well that I don't skip meals now a days. But please Aashu I am really not feeling like having food now. I will have food after some time. I feel if I have food now, I will throw up."
As: " Zoya now this is enough. I am sure you won't throw up. You are not having any problem since last few days, na? It is just your excuse for not having food, And I am not going to buy that. Come, sit and eat now. Atleast think about our babies and stop being irresponsible Zoya. Have the food now."
Zoya was almost in tears hearing Asad's words. Asad noticed that but he thought it was better to ignore those otherwise he knew she wont take her food. He knew very well that Zoya has never skipped meals even when she was unwell too. But Asad felt she might be behaving like this because of her mood swings.
Asad made Zoya sit and have lunch. Asad too was having lunch. After having some food, Zoya felt she would throw up any time. She tried to get up.
As: " Why did you stop?"
Zo : " I will throw up Asad."
As: " Zoya now it is the limit. It is just your .."
But before he could complete, he saw Zoya running towards washroom. Suddenly Asad realised that Zoya was actually feeling nau'sea.
He too followed her but Zoya threw up before she could reach washroom. She was in tears. Asad went and held her. He led her to washroom and made her wash face and mouth.
He took her to their room and made her drink water. He asked her to change her clothes as they have become wet.
Zoya changed her clothes. She was feeling tired. She was about to drink some more water, then she suddenly remembered that she threw up in the dining room. She thought she would go and clean it up.
The sight which Zoya saw in the dining room brought tears in her eyes. Asad was cleaning what she had threw up. Seeing her,
As: " Jaan, please don't come here now. You go and take rest. And if you come here , you will throw up again. Go and rest."
Zoya felt very bad that it was their anniversary. She had prepared Asad's favourite food but because of her , he couldn't even have lunch properly. Instead of having lunch, he was cleaning her vomit. She was feeling miserable.
She went to the living room and switched on the TV to keep a check on the news.
After a while, Asad came there with a glass of lime juice. He came and sat beside her. She took a sip of the juice and kept it on the table.
As: " Jaan, how are you feeling?"
Zoya didn't reply instead she burst out into tears.
As: " Jaan what happened. Are you not feeling well. Why are you crying? Are you in pain? You are scaring me Jaan..Please speak up."
Zo : " I am sorry Aashu. Because of me, you had to do all these.."
Asad took Zoya into a gentle hug and kissed her forehead.
As: " Jaan SShh..Please don't cry and there is no need to be sorry. You didn't do anything deliberately. I know that. And what if I did the c leaning. It is for you and our babies. And I can do anything for you. And this is nothing. And jaan, please stop crying. You know it is not good for you and the babies."
Zo : " But still Aashu, you couldn't eat your lunch also. And I know you now, after all these cleaning you won't be able to have lunch."
As: " It is ok jaan. We will have lunch together when ever you feel like having. Infact I should be sorry that I didn't listen to you and deliberately tried to feed you because of which you threw up."
Zo: " But whatever it is, I am the reason for all these. It is our anniversary and I didn't even let you have a proper lunch."
As: " Sshhh. Jaan.Now no more sorries, I agree it is our anniversary. And it is our togetherness that matters and nothing else. See all four of us are together and nothing is more important than that."
Zo :" Four of us..? Oh yes"
As: " And there is one more thing Zoya. Everyone celebrates their anniversary in their own special ways. And we will have many more anniversaries that we could celebrate in so many special ways. But trust me this one will be the most memorable one. Cleaning the house...So special na"
Asad finally tried to bring smile in her face.
They took rest for sometime and then later had lunch. By evening, the chaos in the city was under control and Dilshad and Rashid reached home by evening.
Days passed by and Zoya was now in the sixth month of her pregnancy. She had grown bigger. Mood swings and tantrums were at its peak. But her nausea and morning sickness had completely stopped. She has been now enjoying her pregnancy. Zoya was enoying her preganancy but Asad was having a tough time fighting with her tantrums and her crazy cravings. Asad tried to remain calm though at times Zoya irritated him so very much. She has been highly unpredictable. One night she would cling to Asad and the next night she would ask him to sleep separately as she would not like smell of his perfume.
Zeenat and Anwar made a surprise visit to Asad's house one evening with the news of Haider s and Najma's marriage. Zoya was sleeping and Zeenat asked Dilshad not to wake her and that they would wait till she wakes up. Asad and Rashid too came early.
They were happy with the news of marriage, but they had a problem which they had to face...Najma's brother had come on leave for a month and he wanted the marriage to be conducted within two weeks. He had also requested to conduct the nikhah in Lucknow, as Najma's uncle had been too ill to travel. Anwar could not reject his pleas as it was genuine. Najma' suncle is their only guardian and hence definitely she would want to get married in his presence. He couldn't even attend their engagement as he cannot travel.Moreover though very few, her relatives were all in Lucknow.Hence they had decided to conduct the nikhah in a very simple way in Lucknow and a very grand walimah in Mumbau after nikhah. But the biggest problem they had to face was Zoya. It would be tedious for Zoya to travel to Lucknow in this condition. And they were worried how to inform her the same that she can't attend her only brother's nikaah.
Asad assured Anwar and Zeenat that he would convince Zoya.
As they were having the discussion, Zoya who was sleeping woke up and was surprised to see her parents.
Zo : " Ammi, Abbu when did you come and why nobody woke me up"
Asad helped Zoya to settle down in the Zoya as she was having difficulty.
Ze: " Beta how are you feeling?"
Zo :" Ammi I am fine. And why a surprise visit? Anything special"
Dilshad informed Zoya about Haider's nikaah in two weeks. Zoya was excited with the news.
Zo :" Wow Ammi, such a wonderful news. Marriage in two weeks. I mean seriously..and that too in Lucknow. Ammi, Let me tell you something I will choose wedding dress for najma. I know I am not that good in shopping but still I want to select wedding dress and Jewelery for Najma."
Ze: "Of course beta.You can do all the shopping. We will get her dress from the same boutique from where your wedding dress has been purchased"
Zo : " No ammi, We will do shopping from Lucknow. I mean I have heard that we get authenthic and tradiditonal designs there. We will do shopping from there."
Hearing that Zeenat's face fell. Zoya was blabbering about what all she is planning to do."
Just then Asad stopped her
As: " Jaan, relax and listen to me carefully. We are not going to Lucknow."
Zo : " Not going to Lucknow means? When nikhaah is in Lucknow why would we not go?"
As :" Zoya you cant attend the nikaah because it is not good for you to travel in this condition."
Zo : " What are you saying Asad? You mean to say that I won't be able to attend my Bhaijaan's nikaah. No way . Ammi, what is this?"
Ze: " Beta, Asad is right. It is not safe for you to travel. "
Zo :" Ammi then postpone the wedding."
Ze : " Beta it is not possible. Najma's brother can get leave again only after two years. So don't you think two is quite a long time?"
Zo : " Ok ammi.then we can conduct nikaah here."
Zeenat tried to explain the situation to Zoya but Zoya was really upset that she was not properly listening to anything whatever Zeenat was telling her. Zoya was literally crying.
Zo :" Ammi tell Najma to get married here. After married she can go and meet her uncle."
Ze :" Beta, her uncle is her only guardian. How can we tell her to get married without him. Think about her beta."
Zoya was in tears. She was loosing her patience
Zo: " Ya yes, you have to think about Najma. Now that you are getting your daughter in law, her happiness will be your priority. Why would you think about me, isn't so ammi? So when no one is bothered about me, then why am I here?"
Zoya got up and moved to her room. Everyone was shocked at what she said. They all knew Zoya would be upset but never expected her to react in such a manner.
But Asad was expecting the worse. He knew very well that it won't be that easy to console her.
As she was leaving, Asad : " Zoya, is this the way to behave? Now come her and apologise to ammi, Zoya are you listening to what I am telling or not."
Zoya continues walking to her room ignoring Asad's words. Asad got up and went near Zoya. He caught her hands and stopped her.
As: " Zoya, Say sorry to your ammi..Zoya.."
Zoya was crying.
Zoya removed his grip from her hand.
Zo: " Asad I know what I am doing. I am not a baby. And I am right. They are not bothered about me. So please .."
As: " Zoya I said Say sorry...sorry means sorry and you would say it now..Zoya"
Asad raised his voice and seeing Asad getting angry, all were worried. Dilshad was about to warn Asad, before that
Zo :" Asad what do you want now? I should say sorry, right. There is no need to shout. Even I know to shout, Asad...Ouchh..Aahh" She screamed holding on to her belly.
As: " Zoya...Zoya what happened Jaan. Are you alright??"
