Chapter 3
Chapter 4:
They arrived at the party together, hand in hand! Anybody could've mistaken them for a real life couple. They met and had some drinks with a few clients. Shlok and Astha glanced towards each other every now and then and quickly looked away as their eyes met.
Shlok then seated himself aside, away from people and drank his juice as his eyes glimpsed around.
He was fuming at the sight in front of him; his fists grew tighter as he continued to stare at the duo.
His nostrils flared as he saw the stranger holding onto Astha's hand, he continued to look closely, as he inspected the man.
"He's asking for a dance, he bloody well not be?! The only person that should dance with her is..." Shlok trailed off in his thoughts as he realised what he was thinking.
He looked back, but this time he lost his cool when he saw that Astha was refusing yet he was persuading her to come with him to the dance floor. His blood was boiling in anger, as you continued to watch.
He lost full of control over his body, and didn't realise how he managed to walk over to the two.
Shlok came face to face with the man, he signalled him to get away from Astha, rage clearly visible in his eyes.
He then turned at a startled Astha, and he bought his hand forward, in response Astha placed her other hand onto his.
He then pulled her onto the dance floor, while Astha's eyes were fixed on him.
Shlok took Astha's arm and placed it on Shlok's shoulder, and Shlok put his arm around Astha's waist. She was a little edgy but Shlok nodded to her to reassure everything was going to be ok.
The music came on, Shlok smiled at Astha.
They swayed with the music and let their bodies do their thing, as their eyes hadn't looked elsewhere ever since. They were in a world with just the two of them, hand in hand.
The music in the background was that of calm and peaceful music, Shlok led the dance to allow Astha to be more comfortable with the crowd watching them.
They had come so close to each other, that there was no breathing space for either of them. Astha broke the eye contact as she looked around.
Niranjan had been looking at the two; he was delighted to see them like this, as he watched them he smiled to himself.
Shlok and Astha were dancing, when Astha tripped over Shlok's foot. Shlok caught her on time, she was somewhat relieved. The spotlight was shone on the two, as they both stood hand in hand, Astha in Shlok's arms.
Few moments passed like this when Shlok pulled Astha closer to his body.
"Astha, Astha I love you!" Shlok whispered that only Astha could hear.
Astha's eyes grew wide open, she was baffled, and was least expecting this from Shlok. She was speechless as to what to say, while Shlok carried on smiling cheerfully. It was as if a burden was taken off his shoulders. He looked into the small hazel eyes; he saw his whole future in them and saw those eyes everywhere in the world. He was most definitely head over heels in love with her.
They were stood like this, unaware of the crowd watching them. When silent claps turned into a big roar of applause, which made them break out of their thoughts.
They both got up composing their posture, as Shlok looked around at the crowd and smiled to them all.
Astha broke herself off Shlok and ran away from that spot. Shlok who was confused at her sudden outburst ran after her.
Shlok saw Astha stood in the garden away from the party, he hurried alongside her.
He called out to her as he progressed closer and closer, however he got no response.
"Astha, what's wrong? Why did you suddenly run away from there?!" Shlok questioned as he looked worriedly towards Astha.
"It's...it's just I wanted to have some fresh air!" Astha said trying to avoid eye contact.
"Astha, are you sure. You don't seem fine!"
"I'm fine Shlok, I...I just..."
"What Astha? Are you ok?!" Shlok asked whilst cupping her face.
"Shlok I'm fine." Astha shrugged off Shlok's hand from her face.
Shlok looked at Astha with guilt struck eyes."Astha don't lie to me!" He looked into her eyes hopefully.
"Now tell me what your problem is? What happened inside?!" Shlok was clearly losing his patience with Astha and was searching for an answer in those big hazel eyes that were constantly looking around.
"Look at me when I'm talking to you Astha!" Shlok grabbed Astha's head and made it face towards him.
"...What was that about Shlok?!"
"What was what about?"
"That confession, why?!" Astha asked, with almost tearful eyes.
"Astha, I love you! Isn't it obvious? I'm amazed when I look at you, not just because of your looks but because of the fact that everything I've ever wanted is right in front of me." Shlok grinned as he looked on at a stunned Astha.
"Shlok are you out of your mind?" Astha almost shouted in between her tears.
"What's wrong with you Astha? Why are you speaking of such things?!"
As he said this Astha closed her eyes and a tear fell from her eyes. She quickly collected herself and wiped it away.
"Shlok! Stay away from me! I don't love you. What made you think I could have fallen in love with you." She pushed Shlok away from her.
"Love? Shlok do you even know what love is, love is commitment, trust, you don't just wake up one morning and just claim you love someone." Astha spook out in one deep sigh.
"Astha, I know what love is, and I love you. Don't you understand?"
"Shlok, think over that. Love is not the only thing needed to survive, besides what can I give you?"
With this Astha quickly made her way away from Shlok.
Shlok was dumbstruck; he stood on the same spot looking on at Astha's retreating back. It's amazing how someone can break your heart and you can still love them with all the little pieces.
"What can you give me Astha? You've already given me the happiness I needed to fill up the sorrows! You've given me a reason to live, with your help I've come this far, now you're leaving me halfway. How will I complete the journey of life when I had planned it to fulfil it with you?"
"Was this the same Astha I fell in love?!" He was broken. Shlok stood rooted to his place, as the night grew longer he got into the car and drove aimlessly not knowing where to go.
The time since he met Astha played in front of him, he loved her too much to let her go.
"It's much more than love Astha, much much more!"
He arrived home quite late; he was heavy-eyed so he hit bed, hoping for the horrible day to end.
