A dark and tall figure appeared near the stairs of the Parvathi mandir, gold crown was shimmering in the beautiful light of the setting sun and a peacock feather was tucked in the right side, it seemed as though the crown was blessed to be held up on the head of a godly person.
"Mere arya aa gaye, mere rakhshan ke liye... Mujhe purn vishwaas tha ke woh aaenge, ve apna vachan kabhi nahi todenge" thought Rukmini with a sigh of relief!
It was her brother's ambition to earn the wrath of Jarasandha, therefore he proposed that she be married to the crown prince of Chedi- Shishupal, but all was against her will, Rukmini was already in love with Krishna whose greatness, virtue, character and charm she had much heard of.
As a part of their plan, Rukmini had called Krishna to the Parvathi temple from where he should kidnap her. The couple rode off when Shishupal noticed them and all of Jarasandha's forces started chasing them just when a beautiful lady with a bow in her hand appeared before them, blocking their path of chase. She was accompanied by Balram, Krishna's elder brother.
"Yeh kaun hai arya?" asked Rukmini to Krishna while they were riding a two-horse chariot.
"Yeh! Yeh toh Parth hai! Pritha ka putra!" answed Krishna naughtily smiling and looking at Parth who was wearing a lady's outfit.
Rukmini tried to guess why Krishna had made Parth appear like a woman but she finally gave up stating, "aap ki leelayein toh koi nahi samaj sakta arya!" and both gave out a soft laugh.
Suddenly a voice full of anger said, "Murkh Krishna! Meri behen ka vivah Shishupal ke saath nishchit ho chuka hai! Kisi aur ki sampatti leke bhagte huye tumhe lajja nahi aati?" it was Rukmi, brother of Rukmini.
Krishna stopped the chariot at those harsh and insulting words for a lady, yes, he did not feel angry because he was insulted, but because women were not respected, thus he spoke, "Laxmi sampatti ka daan karti hai! Woh swayam sampatti nahi hoti!"
"Laaut jaao Rukmi, mai tumhe samman se keh raha hun, shashtra uthaunga toh tumhari mrityu nishchit hai!"
"Mujhe tum jaise murkh se koi bhay nahi, aao shatra uthao!" said Rukmi
Krishna and Rukmi duelled with the inevitable result of Krishna's victory.
Krishna called upon his Sudarshana Chakra and was just going to kill Rukmi when Rukmini fell on his feet and pleaded for her brother's life. So Krishna spared Rukmi after shaving his half head and half moustache. He said, "There is no greater shame for a warrior than a visible sign of defeat."
From there Krishna took Rukmini to Madhavpur Ghed and eloped with her. Afterwards, they returned to Dwarka and married with great pomp and ceremony.
