India's Reshmi wins Best Costume title at Miss Earth 2002 |
26th Oct 2002 16.45 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau Reshmi Ghosh, Indian contestant for this year's Miss Earth Contest in Manilla may not have won the coveted tiara but the lissome beauty has clinched the best National Costume title. Miss Earth 2002, held in Philippines on October 20, was Reshmi's major ordeal ever since she became this year's Fa Femina Miss India-Earth. Sadly, she could not win the crown, but she did win adulations for her exquisite outfit that was specially designed by ace fashion designer Ritu Kumar. Reshmi's dress was labeled the Best National Costume. Ritu gives more than half the credit for the title to Reshmi who, she says, insisted all her outfits to have strong Indian sensibilities. Particularly for the National Costume, Ritu is said to have designed the outfit based on the traditional wear of the royal houses of Punjab. She created a winning combination of silk and zardozi along with the antique kundan jewellery, bangles and flowers. |
