Hemant Nilim Das, director of India's first Eco-friendly and "Green", uncut film Pocket Gangsters, speaking to Flynn Remedios of IndyaNewz.com in Mumbai on Thursday said that there are no takers for Eco-friendly and Green films in Bollywood. "Green" is a bad word and film-makers want to "exploit" the environment and "nature" rather than preserve it. "Exhibitors and distributors want a lot of action, fireworks, explosions, lots of lighting and everything that can be considered non-Eco-friendly," Das explained.
A Lucknow-based NGO Eco-friendly & Green Films Forum of India (EFGFF) has congratulated Das and producer Vikram M Shah for showing courage in producing India's first "green, uncut" film.
"Since my film is uncut and one-shot, we have saved a lot of energy which is normally wasted while doing several re-takes, most of them which end up in the trash can. We have also minimized the use of paints, plastics, fossil fuels and other non-green substances. All items used are earth-friendly and in my opinion we have saved or reduced at least 1.5 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide. However, exhibitors in India today are not so impressed. They want a flurry of activity, bright arc lights and lots of noise. I am grateful to my producer Vikram M Shah for his constant support from day one for this natural film which is an uncut and green, one-shot film," Das told IndyaNewz.com
