"National Award Isn't The Reason For Me To Do Films" - Shahid Kapoor

So after the first cut was shown to the film's cast and people close to the production house, the unanimous opinion was that Shahid Kapoor has given the best film of his career. The actor, who has often tasted more failures than success, agrees that Haider is probably the best film of his career but he doesn't want to invest too much time thinking about awards, accolades and appreciation.

When Koimoi interviewed Shahid Kapoor, the actor was asked if he is expecting a National Award for the film. The actor jokingly quipped, "Please don't raise my hopes. Please mat karo aisa yaar! (Laughs) I honestly don't think about awards anymore. In the first 4-5 years of my career, I used to calculate and indulge in wishful thinking. Now I don't think about it. It is very unpredictable and National Award is not the reason for me to do films. I have to do better work with every film and that is what is crucial. Haider could be the best film in my career."

But clearly, the actor is in a more happy and secure zone. Be it the box office success of R...Rajkumar or the energy of a Vishal Bhardwaj film like Haider, the variety for Shahid is too vast luckily. The actor agreed, "I think the space where I am right now is good. Be it box office footfalls of R...Rajkumar or a challenging film like Haider coming my way. It is not so generic for me anymore. Earlier, I used to think a lot about the result. That used to start affecting me a lot whether my films are doing well on it, whether they are good films or not. After this much time one has spent the industry, one comes to learn that that the right way to focus is on the process. No one knows which film will do well, which won't. But one must really enjoy the process of making films. If you keep focusing on that, you'll able to churn out better films too. You will feel happier by enjoying it. I have stopped worrying about how it will turn out. I saw Haider 25 days back and the first thing I felt was the pride of being a part of such a film."

Haider is based on Shakespeare's Hamlet and is helmed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Starring Tabu, Kay Kay Menon, Irrfan Khan and Shraddha Kapoor alongside Shahid, this one has the chance of being his career's most accomplished film.
