OS - Fun at Abhi's expenses
A piece of jelebi dropped on the floor. Ouch!', thought the lady in blue. I need to clear this up before she comes back, if not she is going to shout like a shrew', thinking such unlikely thoughts of her sister-in-law seems to be the current preoccupation of the lady. As she was about to clear the floor of the dropped jelebi bits she realized an army of ants had formed a line surrounding the jelebi bits. How industries the ants were...transferring the bits carefully and with team spirit to their lair. Looking at the ants, the lady realized that life goes on...nothing stops just because you are in pain or in denial. Everyone's life has beds of roses or thorns, how we move on with our life is more important than willowing with our pain and past. Present matters as it paves the path for future...Just like the ants; a step by the human will end their lives but they still form the line to get the food into the lair...
"Betaji! Betaji!"..."Coming", the lady in blue responded and walked down the stairs, with the aarthi plate. The family had gathered for breakfast with the ever present Tannu in attendance. The kids and elders were praising the food served. "Daddi, today you have done wonders with the breakfast. Never knew you could cook western food", Abhi praised his Daddi eyeing Pragya all the time. He was very sure that she could not have prepared the food as when he had woken up, for once Pragya was still in the washroom, getting dressed for the day ahead. Daddi had brought his cinnamon coffee. His praise was in full force. Catching the trend, Alliya too praised the food. "Mammi always does super cooking", Raj's daughter mumbled with her mouth full of cinnamon toast. "Please, don't praise Pragya for someone else's effort", Alliya retorted. "Why not, Pragya did the cooking", Daddi confirmed. "Please Daddi, she just came down", Abhi snapped. "No Abhi she had an early appointment, came back, cooked the breakfast before going up to freshen up", daddi patiently explained. The siblings could not continue with the conversation; pushed their plates away and got up to resume the day. "Daddi, we have various appointments, we'll skip lunch and dinner," Abhi informed daddi. Daddi wasn't happy but then her face broke into a smile..."Sure but for dinner, take Pragya along. The rest of us are going for a prayer event and the kids have birthday party. I don't want Pragya alone at home." Daddi instructed. "No objections. Let Pragya know the timing, pick her up for dinner," stating her wish, Daddi walked off towards her room.
At 7 pm, Pragya was ready in her anarkali suit waiting for Abhi at the foyer with daddi. Daddi wanted to see them off before going for the prayers with Taiji. Alliya and Abhi had returned home half an hour ago, then walked down, bid adieu to daddi and went to Abhi's car. Pragya followed suit. Neither of the siblings spoke, they stopped at Tannu's place, picked her up. All 3 were dressed in western attire. All geared for the evening. "Which restaurant are we going?" Pragya ventured. "Does it matter? If you don't like the food, we can always drop you at a dabba," Tannu sarcastically announced. Abhi turned into an arched portico. It was a posh restaurant. In-fact French restaurant - Le Bistro Du Parc. The current in place for the rich and famous in India. "French restaurant. Does anyone of you speak the language?" Pragya asked hesitantly. "Does it matter? We are here for the food. Not to learn the language," Abhi retorted. The foursome entered the foyer and were greeted by the front desk lady. "Do you have reservations, sir?" "Yes, under Abhishek Mehra." They were shown to a secluded table near the window facing the water fountain. Abhi and Prayga had to sit next to each other as the table reserved was for quartet, no extra chairs. The 3 gushed about the ambiance of the bistro; meanwhile Pragya looked out of the window and admired the fountain. The flow of water based on the popular song French song La Mer by Charles Trenet. Pragya was mesmerized by the water performance. She didn't even place her order. Whatever said and done, she knew Abhi would order something vegetarian for her. The food came. The trio were served first then followed by Pragya's dish. It was bisque - highly seasoned French soup. "Vegetarian," Pragya asked to the waiter. "Oui madam! Pureed fruits", the waiter replied. "Merci", Pragya responded and started enjoying the soup while watching the fountain. She didn't pay any attention to the trio; after sometime she realized there was complete silence from the 3. When she turned around, they were staring at each other and their soups were not touched at all. Before Pragya could ask what was wrong, the main course - plat principal was served. Alliya screwed her face into a nauseas look when she saw the dish. Alliya told the waiter that they did not eat beef; the food served was Steak frites. The waiter didn't speak much of English and none of the trio spoke French. The bistro was bustling with business and practically all of the cliental were French speaking.
Abhi was getting flustered with the argument; he didn't want to draw attention as it might get to the media. He wanted to leave without eating but the waiter refused as it was a goodwill issue. He wanted to call the manager to the table. Pragya decided to intervene.
Pragya : Excusez-moi. Parlez-vous anglais? (excuse me. Do you speak English?)
Waiter : Non (No)
Pragya : S'il vous plait. Nous avons besoin de commander d'autres aliments . Vgtarien ? (Please. We need order other food. Vegetarian?)PURE AWESOMENESS!! Comment dites-on en francais? Un chef d'oeuvre, un tour de force, tellement impressionant que je ne peux pas dire! Lol forgive my grammar it's been ages since my last french class. Loved this story so much. Starting from the ants to the cuteness of raj's daughter defending her aunt (but I think prags is their chachi?) and the loltastic events en resto. So much fun, just a perfect confection, sooo much love to you for writing it! Hugs and kisses or shall we say des gros bisous a toi pour un conte completement parfait!
Wanted to show that appearance is not all...you need class for people to gain recognition. 😉
