Hi Fatima
Thanks for the pm
Oh I just loved this update I mean what a romantic update it was
The new start of MEET life was 10 on 10
You write romantic scenes so beautifully unlike others who just get carried away and write too much of stuff which takes away the romance part from it
Whereas in your case you just know what to write and where to stop and that's a true quality of a writer
You know u even know how to mix the element of comedy in the romance which is y I love reading your stuff again and again
Gaurav and sam are such great friends I wish everyone should get such friends in life they are just too good
I am just waiting now how will preet's family react to the mairrage hope so they will be cool about it
But what i am waiting the most is to see how that evil viren react to this news I am sure he won't keep quite and will definitely do something but I really hope he is not able to do much...
I know for the fact that preet won't let him do anything still tension is in the air now...
So pls update soon and finish this suspense so that we can be at peace...
Waiting for the next pm
Chapter 32 - Disappearing Act

"Yeesh! I can't believe how much dust this place has gathered in only a week", sighed Meher, as she and Preet put down the empty boxes they were carrying.
"I still don't know why you insist on dusting when you're no longer going to live here", complained Preet.
"Well, if the place looks neat when people come by to see it, we'll have a better chance of getting someone to take over the lease", said Meher.
"Yeah but this is not how I imagined spending the better part of my afternoon you know", complained Preet.
"Oh come on Preet stop complaining", said Meher, handing him a rag. "The work is not as difficult as it seems. You start in one corner and I'll take the other. Just toss my personal items in the boxes we brought and give the area you cleared a once over with the dusting rag. The sooner we start, the sooner we'll get done".
"Aur phir kya hoga?" asked Preet. (And what will happen then?)
"Well...then we can go home", Meher smiled as she put her arms around his neck. "Aur phir...wohi hoga jo manzoor-e-pati hoga". (And then I'll do whatever my husband wills).
"Now you're talking", grinned Preet.
A short while later...
Preet returned from putting some things away in the car. "Meher?" he said, as he looked around the empty living room. He went and checked the kitchen, but she wasn't there either. "Now where did she disappear to all of a sudden?" He wondered out loud.
Just then Meher crept up behind Preet and jumped at him trying to scare him. "BOO!" she cried playfully.
He jumped back startled. "Good God Meher!" cried Preet, as he put one hand over his heart. "What's wrong with you?!"
"Ha Ha!" Meher laughed. "You should have seen the look on your face. Scaredy cat!"
"That's not funny Meher!" frowned Preet. "You scared the living daylights out of me! I could have had a heart attack!"
"Aww...I'm sorry Preet", said Meher. "I didn't mean to upset you. I was just trying to have some fun".
"I'm not upset", said Preet as he rolled his eyes and frowned.
"Are you sure?" Meher smiled as she tweeked his cheeks then put her arms around his neck. "Because you know what Mr Juneja? You look really cute when you get angry".
"Is that so Mrs. Juneja?" grinned Preet. Putting his arms around her waist, he held her close, and gave her a kiss on her cheek. "What say we cut out of here?"
"Sure. There's one last box left", said Meher, as she pointed to a box with some books and CDs in it. "Why don't you take it down to the car? In the meantime, I'll go over to Rajveer's place and pick Romeo up?"
"I'll come with you", suggested Preet. "I want to see Rajveer too".
"You do?" Meher asked in surprise.
"Yeah. I want to see his reaction when he finds out his coming over for free coffee days are over, because I stole his beautiful neighbor right out from under his nose", chuckled Preet.
"Preet, that's terrible!" sighed Meher. "Rajveer and I were just friends".
"Trust me Meher, guys and girls can never be just friends. Look at you and me", said Preet. "Now come on, let's go".
"Oh no you don't! I'm not letting you go over there just so you can have a laugh at poor Rajveer's expense", Meher said adamantly. "Especially not after he baby-sat my cat for an entire week. You go down to the car with this last box, and I'll be down momentarily with Romeo".
"Lekin (But) Meher...", tried Preet.
"No no...I insist", said Meher with her arms folded. "Now go".
"Han han", sighed Preet. "Biwi ka hukum sar ankhoon pe". (Yes of course, Wife's orders above everything).
Meher shook her head and giggled, as she saw Preet leave the apartment. She gave each room a look once over, reminding herself that she could always come back if something she needed got left behind. She then picked up her purse, and headed over to Rajveer's apartment. She would collect her mail and her cat, and then be on her way home with Preet.
A short while later...
Preet walked back into Meher's apartment. "Meher where are you? I've been waiting downstairs for over 20 minutes", he complained. But there was no answer. Nor was there any sign of her. I know...she's probably hiding and wanting to frighten me. Well, I won't let that happen again.
"Come on Meher", Preet called out. "I'm not in the mood for playing hide and seek anymore. You know we both have to go back to work tomorrow, so let's make the most of the rest of the day.{silence} Meher?"
He began to call out her name as he searched each room. But the words eventually died in his throat when his search turned up empty and gave way to the first niggling sense of concern.
"Okay...no need to panic. She's probably still at Rajveer's place", Preet reassured himself.
He quickly walked down the hall a few doors down to the neighbor's apartment, ready to lecture Meher on disappearing on him, but once there he was surprised to find the door slightly ajar.
"Hello?" He said knocking on the door and peeking his head inside. "Anybody home? Meher? Rajveer?" He flung the door wide open when he saw no one there. Panic began to set in as he got a glimpse of 2 small cats walking aimlessly around the room that was in complete disarray. "Meher?! Rajveer?!" he called out again and again, as he ran from room to room. "Meher I swear if this is a joke I'm not laughing!"
Preet quickly pulled out his cell phone and dialed Meher's number. There was no answer. He passed his hand through his hair in frustration as all sorts of thoughts began running through his mind. Viren?! No! He wouldn't dare! Oh God please don't let it be so! Thought Preet.
He pushed the redial button and waited, and waited, then waited some more, until he thought his heart might beat out of his chest. Everything inside of him willed for Meher to answer her phone, while yelling at himself for leaving her alone.
Just then Preet heard muffled sounds coming from a closet. He ran over and opened the door, only to have Rajveer fall out. He had been gagged and bound to a chair. He twisted his wrists and yanked at the ropes, his eyes pleading for Preet to free him.
Preet quickly straightened Rajveer's chair to an upright position, and undid the gag. "Where is Meher?!" He demanded.
"Water! Water!" Rajveer panted.
Preet ran to the kitchen and brought back a bottle of water. He watched impatiently as Rajveer downed the bottle greedily, then questioned him again. "Where's Meher?"
"I don't know. That's what I told the guys that showed up on my door", sighed Rajveer. "But they didn't believe me. I've been tied to that chair for 2 days. What the hell is going on?!"
Preet raced out the door, and out the building frantically looking around for any sign of Meher. There was none. He took out his phone again and dialed a number. "Inspector Khan", he said. "I need your help".
A short while later...
"Alright Mr. Juneja", said Inspector Khan, as he entered Rajveer's apartment, and surveyed the place. "I got here as fast as I could. Now tell me what happened".
"Two guys broke into my place and held me hostage...", began Rajveer.
"It's Meher...", Preet interrupted. "She's gone. She's been kidnapped". He spat the words out grudgingly as if he did not want to admit it to himself.
"Kidnapped?" said Inspector Khan.
"You remember we came to you and filed a complaint about a guy who was stalking her?" asked Preet.
"Yes. Industrialist Dev Kashyap's son", said Inspector Khan. "What was the name...?"
"Viren. Viren Kashyap", said Preet. "He's kidnapped Meher".
"First murder and now kidnapping", said Inspector Khan. "I told you before and I'm telling you again, accusations are not enough. I need proof before I can do anything".
"Look around you inspector!" Preet cried, waving his arms at the scattered contents of the room. "How much more proof do you need?"
"There's obviously been a break in here", said Inspector Khan. "But how does that tie in to Mr. Kashyap kidnapping your wife".
"Wife?" asked Rajveer. "You and Meher got married?"
"What do you mean got married?" asked Inspector Khan. "They are married. Aren't you?"
"I'm afraid it's a long story", sighed Preet.
"Well then...we had better start", said Inspector Khan, as he motioned for Preet to take a seat.
"Up until last night, Meher and I weren't really married", began Preet. "I mean we had only said we were earlier because we both kind of got ourselves into sticky situations that required us doing a little...fabricating".
"You mean you lied", said Inspector Khan.
"Sort of...but you have to believe me...I'm not lying now. Nor am I lying about Viren kidnapping Meher", said Preet.
"Why should I believe you?" asked Inspector Khan. "If I recall correctly, Viren Kashyap was Meher's former fiance. How do I know there is not some tug of war going on between you and him for Meher? How do I know she didn't leave you for him? How do I know you're not making up these allegations just to get back at him...just like you made up the story about you 2 being married before? This is a high profile person we're talking about. I could get into a lot of trouble for barking up the wrong tree you know".
"Because Meher and I love each other...in fact we just came back from Ludhiana yesterday after getting engaged", explained Preet. "If you don't believe me you can get in touch with my family. My brother is Prem Juneja, head of Juneja Enterprises/ He can give you all the details of our engagement, names of guests who witnessed it, the jeweler who we bought our rings from...everything".
"You're one of the Junejas?" asked Inspector Khan. "Great! Just what I needed...to get my department stuck between 2 feuding enterprises".
"Look Inspector...Meher herself came down to the station to complain about Viren, remember?" said Preet. "He had been threatening her to meet with his family lawyer and help him get back his inheritance. When she refused, he tried to disrupt our engagement by running me down with his car".
"So there are official charges pressed against him in Ludhiana...that's great...we have something to go on", said Inspector Khan.
"I'm afraid not", sighed Preet. "The driver was never caught. And he was wearing a mask, so no one could identify him. The car was registered in Viren's name, but he had reported it stolen prior to the accident".
"Interesting", said Inspector Khan. "Looks like someone is very thorough in the planning department".
"You mean he knows how to cover up his tracks", Preet said disgustedly. "To make matters worse, when we met the lawyer, he said if Meher doesn't marry Viren within the next 2 months, all of the Kashyap's wealth would be given away in charity. The guy was desperate. He was willing to do anything. When Meher and I got back into town, I couldn't see to leave her alone with that maniac still after her. So we got married last night. I promised I wouldn't let anything happen to her. She was so happy".
Inspector Khan turned towards Rajveer. "How many men did you say broke into your place?"
"Two", replied Rajveer.
"Can you describe them?" asked Inspector Khan.
"They were of medium height, well built", said Rajveer. "One with short dark hair and moustache and the other longer dark hair, with a tattoo on his right arm. They were quite brutish, and pushed their way inside when I answered the door. They demanded I tell them where Meher was. I told them I didn't know anything except that she was out of town and asked me to watch her cat. They said I was lying and started beating me up. I guess I must have passed out, because the next thing I knew, I woke up gagged and bound to a chair. One of them got a call this morning on his cell phone, after which they shoved me inside a closet. That's where Preet found me".
"Mr. Juneja, does the description of either of the men match Viren Kashyap's?" asked Inspector Khan.
"No. He obviously sent some men to get her so that the crime couldn't traced back to him", said Preet.
"Did they say anything else about Meher?" Inspector Khan asked Rajveer. "Where they intended to take her? Who they were taking instructions from? Or anything else you can remember?"
"No...nothing", said Rajveer.
Inspector Khan grew quiet in thought.
"I don't get it!" Preet cried. "Why are we just standing here exchanging information? Why don't you just go get the guy? I'm telling you he's behind this! You have to do something before he hurts Meher!"
"Can you prove that?" asked Inspector Khan. "I'll have him arrested right away if you can. But you yourself said the description Mr. Malhotra gave of the 2 men who broke in here doesn't match Viren Kashyap's".
"But he's behind this Inspector", insisted Preet. "Nothing else is missing from this place except Meher. Why would anyone else want to kidnap her?"
"Mr. Juneja, I told you before we need to work within the framework of the law", sighed Inspector Khan. "We'll start by checking with all the neighbors to see if anyone saw or heard anything unusual. We should still have Mr. Kashyap's Mumbai address in the complaint you filed before. I'll have someone go down there and question him or whoever else is there.
We'll wait 24 hours, if she doesn't show up, we'll put out a missing person alert for your wife. I'll need a recent photo of hers for that.
Let's just hope that somewhere, someone left a clue or made a mistake. And if they did, we'll be there to catch them.
But what I can't do is go around arresting people without proof or a confession. And right now I don't have either. Oh and I'll need the address of the mandir you got married in, and contact information for your brother. I hope you understand I have to follow procedures and confirm I've got everyone's story straight".
"I understand", said Preet. "There's just one thing though. I...uh...haven't told my family about Meher and me getting married yet".
"Oh really?" Inspector Khan said with a raised brow. "Well then, I suggest you tell them what's happened as soon as possible. The more people know Meher is missing, the more eyes and ears we'll have on the look out for her. I also expect you to keep me posted on any communication you may get from Meher or the kidnappers. I just hope that..."
"What?" Preet asked.
"No...it's nothing" said Inspector Khan.
"No...tell me what", insisted Preet.
"Well...and I'm just playing the devil's advocate here...but you said marrying Meher was the key to Viren Kashyap getting his inheritance back", said Inspector Khan. "I'm just wondering what his reaction will be once he finds out that she's already married. I mean you claim you married her to protect her, but if Viren is really as dangerous as you think he is, taking this step may just have led her to out-live her usefulness".
"Inspector Khan!" cried Preet. The thought of Viren doing anything to hurt Meher was too much for him to bear.
"I'm sorry Mr. Juneja", said Inspector Khan. "I can understand how you feel. But in a kidnapping case, anything can happen. Trust me we'll do everything possible to find Meher. I suggest you go home and get some rest now. Just...uh...don't leave town".
