Its Retro Caf show time again !
This weeks Retro caf is something Special. It is dedicated to the evergreen songs of three legendary stars of Hindi films. They are Guru Dutt, Rajendra Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar.
Guru Dutt is remembered as a brooding intense romantic who attempted to reflect the changing social situation in India in the fifties in all his films. Within his short life, he created some of India's most socially-conscious movies. Even though his career was a short-lived one, the characters he created will always be on the minds of the viewers.
R. K. Tulli aka Jubilee Kumar aka Rajendra Kumar was one of those magical actors whose reign in bollywood produced its maximum hits. He conjured success continuously, thanks to his penchant for tragedy and his ability to charm women in musical romances. His gestural style of acting became a signature, as did his quivering lips and emotion-laden voice.
Haribhai Jariwala aka Sanjeev Kumar was a versatile multifaceted actor-star.Despite making his reputation as a serious actor, he displayed a great flair for the light-hearted and mainstream films alike wherein he played multiple roles further showcasing his acting prowess and versatility. It is believed that he improved his performance tremendously at the dubbing stage with his marvelous voice control. The quiver in his emotionally saturated voice was as important an element of his acting as small casual gestures like running his hand down his neck. He carries an aura, an unbeatable charisma. Sanjeev Kumar was not handsome compared to other actors of his time. But he possessed those rusty and tousled looks that enabled him to fit into almost any and every character with absolute ease. For him, substance scored a higher point over the guise. The genius remains embedded in the hearts of the audiences forever.
