Friends, there was again not too much to yesterday's episode (as there wasn't much to crow about in the mega episode of Saturday either). Both episodes seemed to set the stage for the developments of four tracks in the story ...one, the fate of Bakshi's baby; two, the attack on the life of Jalal; three, the end days of Maham with a U-turn in her attitude; and four the progress of Ruq's involvement in the pregnancy of Jodha.
As regards what happened yesterday, I have four important questions to which I am seeking answers. Here they are:
Question One: Was it okay for Jodha and Javeeda to lie to Maham that Javeeda was pregnant?
In yesterday's episode poor Maham was seen swallowing wholesale the lie trundled out by Jodha and Javeeda that Javeeda was pregnant with Adham's child. Finding a will to live for something worthwhile again, Maham is seen stuffing her mouth with food ... I thought it was a very pathetic sight. Resham was all tears to see this as Javeeda also watched the change in her mother-in-law's attitude.
Later in her room Jodha is seen telling Javeeda "I am sorry we had to lie to Maham, regarding your pregnancy. But if it takes a lie to make her want to live again, then the lie is worth it!" Javeeda seemed to agree.
Much later we find a scene where Maham tries to get the attention of the durwan, by dropping a water glass onto the floor deliberately. She tells the durwan "Take me to Javeeda!" for Javeeda is all that is on her mind. When the durwan refuses, Maham says "At least take my paigam to her to summon her here." Again the durwan refuses the request, but compassionately says "Okay, I will try to reach her for you."
But instead of Javeeda returning to Maham's prison cell, Jodha reaches there again and says "I will bring Javeeda to you only if you eat your food and take your medicines." Maham, however, despite her failing condition finds the fire in herself to ask Jodha "Why did you come here? I asked only for Javeeda?" Jodha then says "I came because I want you to retract the "bad duas" you have given Jalal and his babies!" Maham refuses outright to retract her curses. She shouts at Jodha with all the reserves of health she has "Get out of here and never let me see your face again!" Seeing herself totally shunned, Jodha also agrees not to return, but then Maham moans for Javeeda. As she then goes out of the cell, Jodha agrees to bring Javeeda with her the next time, thanking her starts there would be another opportunity to work on Maham regarding the retraction of the curses.
The big question I have here is about expediency versus morals. Was it right of Jodha and Javeeda to utter this pregnancy lie just to give Maham that extra lease of life, to make her want to eat and live? We know from the spoilers that Maham does die within the next couple of days. So the ploy didn't work all that well. But the question is: did Maham die thinking Javeeda to be carrying her son's heir? Is it ethical to cheat someone on their death-bed? Did Jodha exploit Maham's weakness (the Javeeda pregnancy) to try and wheedle Maham into retracting her "bad duas"?
On the face of it, Jodha said her lie to Maham was worth it if it gave Maham the will to live. But why did Jodha need Maham to live? Was it merely to have Maham slightly healthy enough to retract her curses? Or was it so that Jodha could try to patch up things between Jalal and Maham at least on her death bed, for she had heard from Gulbadan how many times Maham had put her own life on the line for Jalal in childhood?
What I am trying to say here is that there's a very thin line between honourable intentions and cheating when one tells someone something untrue on their death bed and makes them believe it just to be able to give them a slightly longer lease of life in which to make them do other things! Jodha, being a pure soul, as she is portrayed in the serial, can perhaps be absolved of ill-intentions and we can safely she must be doing all of this to make Maham and Jalal reconcile, whereby Jalal is freed from the curses that he cannot forgive, while Maham dies a happier woman thinking she is leaving behind her legacy in Javeeda's womb.
But what is the consensus opinion on the forum? Were Jodha's lies to Maham justifiable for the ends they achieved, or is it always unforgiveable to lie to a dying person?
Question Two: If Sharif and his Dad were planning an attack on Jalal, what was Jalal doing in the surang?
Okay, here's an interesting question that foxed me yesterday. I guess only today's episode will answer this one.
Sharif is in his room, dressing up, when his father arrives in a huff and berates his son for wasting time on frivolities when he should be pronto planning Jalal's assassination. This is when Sharif tells his father "I was planning ... in fact I am thinking of using that surang that leads to Jodha's room!" The father BigBeard is extremely gratified to here of the presence of the surang. But before BigBeard gets too carried away, Sharif says "There's a caveat. Under no circumstances, will I hurt Jodha Begum in this assassination attempt!" The father guffaws, "You may be able to hide your emotions from your stupid wife Bakshi, but you can't hide them from me. Your eyes give away the fact that you are in love with this Jodha Begum. Whatever it is, Jalal is our enemy and you've got to get him!" Sharif agrees and a wickedness enters his eyes.
BigBeard on the other hand is not prepared to leave everything to Sharif. He decides to do his bit to egg Jalal to spend the night with Jodha so that Jalal is in the room when Sharif arrives via the surang. BigBeard chances upon Jalal walking on the terraces of the Palace and engages him in small conversation. Jalal says "Sorry, I've been busy and not really spent time with you!" BigBeard brushes that aside and then begins to say Jalal should find the time to appreciate what the stars in the sky are telling him. He says, "Look at that moon so close to Venus. There's a message of blessing in that sight. It is said that a husband who stays the night with his pregnant wife on such a blessed night gets divine blessings upon his family and children!" Jalal seems to swallow this story and says "Yes, indeed, I was going to Jodha's room myself. I am on the way there, in fact!" He then goes his way, whereupon BigBeard is mighty pleased that he has sent Jalal into the trap!
Meanwhile Sharif and his henchman go to the jail end of the surang, get into the surang with a mashaal, and then close the entrance hole to the surang with a large rock. They plan to wend their way through the surang to Jodha's room.
But here comes the fuddling question. In the precap we see Jalal holding a mashaal himself and walking in some place that looks like a surang, when Sharif comes from behind and traps him and holds a knife to his throat and says "Got you!" or words to that effect.
How did Jalal get into the surang? Can it be that Jalal was in Jodha's room when he saw the surang opening in Jodha's room and decided to investigate the surang, and so he started going down the surang in the opposite direction from where Sharif was coming? Did Sharif catch him coming down the surang towards himself and lie in wait for Jalal? And does that mean that we are going to have a huge combat between Jalal and Sharif inside the surang?
And how will Jodha save Jalal (as history says she did save Jalal on this assassination attempt also)? Will Jodha notice the surang herself and dive in to save Jalal. I somehow doubt if Jodha will get into the surang in her pregnant condition! So then how will she save Jalal? There are two questions that come to mind here ... how will Jodha get to save Jalal if all the combat action is in the surang ... and how then does Sharif flee from that surang and out of the palace (as again history says he does)?
In the midst of all this suspense, Diksha gave me one more possibility last night. She said this whole surang-side "overwhelming of Jalal at knife point" by Sharif must be Sharif's father's dream or imagination! That's possible too!
But I still think a fight inside the surang would be an exciting adventure to watch, and maybe eventually Jodha saves Jalal by helping him back to her room, while Sharif and henchman take the opposite direction to flee via the jail end of the surang!
Any guesses anyone, on exactly what may happen?
Question Three: Will Sharif kill his own baby? When will he find the time? If not, will it be BigBeard?
Accha, now we have this one other issue to ponder over. Yesterday Sharif had already entered the surang when we last saw him.
Earlier in the day he had run to his wife's side when he had heard that their baby was born deaf. He looked upset till Bakshi told him the hakima said she had a cure for this. Whether Sharif believed Bakshi or not is debatable, because we saw Sharif cuddling the baby but giving it the evil eye when Bakshi was not looking. I did get the feeling that Sharif may kill the baby out of sheer disgust now that he knew the child was deaf! Already he was not too happy it was not a boy ...
But now that Sharif has entered the surang already and may well flee from there itself after a botched up assassination attempt on Jalal, how exactly does Bakshi's baby die? Does BigBeard by any chance kill the baby? And what about the spoilers that say Bakshi will uncover Sharif's lechery on Jodha and also his designs on the baby and part ways with him?
I am a bit confused on this one.
We know the baby dies, but how and when is the question, because Bakshi's disgust with her own husband could make her spill the truth to Jalal that Sharif was leching over Jodha.
I am keen to see how Jalal behaves when he hears that Sharif has had a tendre for Jodha right from the Amer days. I want to see how bakshi uncovers this (if she does at all) and how then she tells Jalal all this! I want to see a possessive and furious Jalal in action!
Question Four: The continuing irritating presence of Ruq in Jodha-Jalal lives ... has Jalal forgiven her?
The last of my big doubts is this relative peace that seems to reign now between Jalal and Ruq after that "farman exchange" and anger over her asking for the baby. Two episodes ago, Jalal looked frightfully angry and upset with Ruq. But since the mega episode and even yesterday, Jalal seems not to be carrying any residual anger against Ruq and is in fact encouraging her attend to Jodha's needs.
Yesterday, particularly, it looked like a cozy threesome when Jalal and Jodha were taking about their babies and Jalal referred to them as Razia and Radha. Ruq hadn't a clue who Radha and Razia were till Jodha told her Jalal was referring to their unborn daughters. After looking a trifle thrown, Ruq then said "No they will not be girls, they will be boys, and I have perfect names for them. How about Atif and Shiraz?" Neither Jalal nor Jodha looked even slightly affected by the fact that Ruq was now joining them in their exclusive privilege of naming their children. Jalal merely said "No ... one name has to be Rajvanshi!" Meanwhile Jodha cornered the attention of all by saying she has the perfect boy names - Hassan and Hussein - and Jalal then showed his extreme eagerness for these names for they were the names of the grandsons of the Prophet.
Jalal then showered Jodha with praise for always getting the best ideas, when Ruq looked more than miffed. But in all this folks, what happened to the anger of Jalal against Ruq? Are we to assume that Jalal has forgiven Ruq and is now allowing her space to become a threesome with him and Jodha ... or is "teda Jalal" just lying in wait for his opportunity to pull the rug from under Ruq's feet while outwardly seeming normal with her?
One more significant thing ... how many of you noticed that the Creatives are making Ruq repeat almost all of the things Jodha did for her during the fake pregnancy? Yesterday's curtain-drawing reminded me of the time when Jodha was doing something similar for Ruq. So is it a game plan then to extract from Ruq all the work that she had demanded of Jodha during her fake pregnancy?
I personally don't like this Ruq becoming a "cozy threesome" with Jodha and Jalal, given my antipathy to Ruq. So I am hoping inside my heart that Jalal is just biding his time and acting normal while he plans what exactly to do with Ruq immediately after the birth of the twins.
Incidentally I anticipate that mini-leap of the serial, that was on the cards, will happen immediately after Sharif fleeing and Maham's death in a couple of days. They may cut short the gestation time of Jodha's pregnancy and directly jump to the delivery date when all hell may break loose after Ruq gets the second baby.
Here's my hunch on what may happen then: I think when Ruq is given that second baby, her immediate next plan would be to kill the first baby Jodha has so that her own adopted baby will become the waaris and she will become MUZ. Meanwhile, however, Jalal will monitor Ruq with an eagle eye and trap her smoking a hookah or in some way neglecting the child, and via the "reverse farman" he will take the baby away and give it back to Jodha.
Now Ruq will find that she has no babies and no audha, but if she were to kill Jodha she would get both babies and secure the audha. So this may lead Ruq trying to assassinate Jodha with some handy ark (!) ... but while the dosage may not kill Jodha, it may kill both the babies she is feeding. Jalal may see symptoms of ark poisoning in Jodha and the babies and deduce the plot that Ruq has been executing, and he may decide to punish her drastically.
But Ruq may use that second "wish" that she has (let's not forget that one) and she may get off with a lighter punishment i.e. Jalal may sideline her and stop talking to her for years till the birth of Salim much later. All this should tie in with SBS saying Ruq will try to kill Jodha and it would bring the "reverse farman" into play (otherwise why was it shown in the first place?). It would also tie in with history if the reason for Jalal sidelining Ruq is given as due to the "lighter punishment" as a result of Ruq using her second wish.
But what about the one wish that Salima has? Will it not get spent now in all this fracas? What do you all think?
So then these are my four big questions at the end of yesterday's episode ... I'm dying to know everybody's theories!
What all happened in Monday's episode:
When Jodha tells Maham in jail that Javeeda is expecting Adham's baby, Maham is very happy. Javeeda is hapoy too. Maham agrees and eats her given food to try and stay alive. Later in her hojra Jodha tells Javeeda "I am sorry we had to tell a lie to make her eat. But if she lives because of this lie the lie is worth it."
Sharif runs to Bakshi after hearing that their child is deaf. He acts very upset but Bakshi says the hakima is sure she has a cure. Sharif acts happy to hear that and Bakshi says how fortunate she is to have an understanding husband. But as Sharif carries the baby, there is an evil look in his eyes.
Maham in jail tries to call the durwan but he doesn't hear . She breaks a water glass and gets attention. She says "Take me to Javeeda" but they refuse. Then she says "At least give my paigam to Javeeda to call her here." They refuse that also. They then say with compassion they will try to reach Javeeda. Maham keeps thinking to herself "Is Javeeda well? Is the baby well?"
Jodha is asleep in her bed and it's early morning. Ruq and Hoshiyar arrive there and decide to open the curtains carefully as she needs more sleep in pregnancy - but Jodha gets up. Ruq makes a big hoo-ha about Jodha needing to stay healthy. Jalal also comes there. Jalal says "When Radha and Razia are here Jodha will have lots of work." Ruq asks "Who are Radha and Razia?" Jodha says "Jalal has decided names for our girls." This throws Ruq. She then says the babies will be boys not girls ... but Jalal says they will be girls. Ruq says she has two boy names she can recommend - Atif and Shiraz. Jalal says one name has to be Rajvanshi. Then Jodha says her choices are Hassan and Hussein after the prophet's sons. Jalal is thrilled. He says "Jodha Begum, how do you always get the best ideas?" Ruq is miffed.
Sharif is dressing in his room, when his father arrives and scolds him for having no plans yet to kill Jalal. Sharif says he has a plan to use the surang that goes to Jodha's room from the jail. His father is pleased to hear of the surang. But Sharif says he won't hurt Jodha. His father guesses he is leching for Jodha and says "Ok, but our target is Jalal."
Jodha goes to meet Maham in jail and says "You can meet Javeeda only if you eat food and take medicines". Maham says that is not the reason Jodha has come, so she'd better come out with her reall reasons. Jodha admits she came to ask Maham to take back her bad duas on the babies. But Maham refuses. She says "Get out" and as Jodha reluctantly goes she moans for Javeeda. Jodha says "i will bring her next time " as she goes.
Jalal and Todarmal are walking on the terrace when Sharif's dad meets Jalal. Todarmal leaves discreetly, and Jalal says sorry he was busy and couldn't spend time with Sharif's dad. The dad then says "See the moon so close to the Venus in the sky. It's a blessed night for a husband to spend the night next to his pregnant wife." Jalal believes this and says "Yes i am going to Jodha." The dad smiles wickedly that he has managed to get Jalal into Jodha's room where Sharif may catch him unawares, entering via the surang..
At the jail end of the surang, Sharif and his henchman go quietly into the surang with a mashaal and put a rock to cover the surang entrance. Sharif tells his man to be extremely carefiul and stealthy as they proceed down the surang.
In the precap, for some reason Jjalal also is in shown in some surang with a mashaal ... when sharif comes from behind him and attacks him, holding a knife at Jalal's throat. Sharif then says "Got you at last!"
What will happen today?
I think Jodha will succeed in separately preparing Jalal and Maham for the grand reunion tomorrow as Maham breathes her last.
I also think we may see the surang-side fight of Jalal and Sharif today and Jodha saving Jalal's life?
I am not sure of Bakshi discovering today (after the surang fight) that Sharif may have used the surang many times to lech at Jodha and thereby she gets miffed enough to tell all to Jalal about her husband's tendre for Jodha?
I think this Sharif fleeing issue, this Maham death and this Bakshi's baby's death and the "outing" of Sharif's leching on Jodha will all happen by this week ... so that by next week, there can be that mini-leap to show Jodha's delivery.
I had heard that the Ruq baby kaand will be over by September end so I am getting ready to see next week and the week after that devoted to the misbehaviour and exposure of Ruq.
