To me it makes sense - if he loved Sanyogita so dearly he has to behave like that...but, bottom line is that he finally uses his brain & takes the throne as his nana wished, or as appropriate.
I think, the problem was that he was a King & so, responsibilities towards his Kingdom tied him up always...and I think, that's the dilemma he always went through & thus, he is blamed for neglecting duties over love; THOUGH he is remembered for being abided to his duties too! And, for his lose in Ghori battle it was much more complications than just this issue, such as UNITY!
