I think it happens in most of the developing countries where the divide between the rich and poor is great. I also think it happens in rural areas rather than urban. I cannot say that the same thing happens everywhere, but definitely similar things must be happening.

I don't know but I do know that every country is faced with some kind of problem, some more than others, some worse than others, that's the sad reality of life. I'm not an Indian but I'm watching this show to get an idea, a little understanding of the social issues and implications that India faces as a nation and also watching to see how creatives handle the subject matter. I agree the show is very heart-wrenching to watch, especially seeing Kasturi's pain and Chakor mortgage into slavery.

I have heard that earlier these kind of things used to happen like they are showing in the serial.
It may happen now also in some places. it may be a little different from what is shown. Like in some villages they employ the kids (not very young like chakor though, maybe above 15 year olds) in cities in some odd jobs and those agents give their salary to their parents. Kids get only minimum food and place to stay. They can't look for job in other places where they may pay more. so its kind of bonded labor in a way.

It is diffulcult for me to accept that this type of thing still happens but it is shown in documentaries how children in some developing countries are treated because of poverty and the need to feed their family they are forced by their parents to work for the rich. The actors in this show are doing a wonderful job it is so sad to see a little girl forced to be seperated from her family and forced into slavery no food given to her and they expect her to work as an adult, the rich man has such a bad temper and his wife she is just evil only care about money and status. This show reminds me of some slavery shows how the masters tortured the blacks slaves in the west. Avery sad fact of world history and it seems it is still happening in different parts of the world.
