No takers for Haider! Film might switch to safe friday???

That Disney UTV had decided to stake the fate of an alternate, Vishal Bharadwaj film with the masala action flick Bang Bang seemed like a gamble from day 1. However, now it looks like this gamble might indeed not pay off.
Haider, starring Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu and Kay Kay Menon, has not been able to build buzz in the film trade circuit. A lot of factors work against the film- it's esoteric soundtrack hasn't caught up, it's trailers lack drama and the film's milieu, that of Kashmir's volatile politics, while relevant doesn't have mainstream appeal. Add to that the fact that Shahid Kapoor and director Vishal Bharadwaj have both failed to give hits with their last releases (Phata Poster Nikla Hero didn't do average Box Office business, grossed about 40 crores. Mathru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola didn't do business worth mentioning at all), and the odds are staked against it.
Buzz in film trade circles, therefore, has been going around for about 2 weeks that HAIDER might be postponed to a safer Friday, and might avoid a direct contest with Bang Bang. But the real catch lies in the film's distribution strategy. UTV Motion Pictures had worked out a package deal with single screen exhibitors across India, offering Kick and HAIDER together. If you show one, you have to show the other too. But with Bang Bang creating strong buzz, and a long weekend of October 2 ahead of them, single screen owners are contemplating a breach of contract here. Naturally, they don't want to lose out on major business during the holiday weekend.
Noteworthy that, Mary Kom is a surprise 'hot' movie in trade circles currently, as it's music has caught up, and it has been declared tax free already. Both Bang Bang and Haider have loads of breathing space ahead of their release. September is dominated by Mary Kom, Khubsurat and Daawat E Ishq and Creature (women oriented films take the lead). But, the buzz for all four is stronger than Haider in film trade circles for now.
So the Shahid Kapoor starrer faces a genuine screen space crunch for now. The studio backing it won't comment and will call this report rubbish. But for now, postponement of Haider is the best chance for this film to get a decent viewing from audiences across India.

Doubt it. UTV has PK coming up so single screen owners won't breach the contract. Only way is UTV themselves decide to postpone it rather than any pressure tactics. The whole idea of releasing on Oct 2 is to take full advantage of 5 day weekend.

It was bound to happen. Haider looks boring right from day one to me. I have no reason to watch this movie at all and when put against Bang bang which is through and through a commercial movie with good music, the latter will win.
Haider's music is also no good.
The only people who will be excited for this movie will be Shakespearean fans.
I've only seen this forum so excited for this movie. In real world, people are hardly interested.

Don't think it will postpone ... Even with a clash this a best time for haider to release.

It's Daily Bhaskar. Not a reputable or reliable news source. Haider is not going to postpone. It's too late in the day. If it were to postpone it would have done when Mary Kom changed it's release date

Daawat-e-ishq did recently...one more article

Vishal Bharadwaj's Haider release date clashing with Hrithik Roshan's action film Bang Bang seemed like a huge gamble. The two teams went overboard telling everyone that there was actually no clash' as the two films were of different genre.

However, now it looks like Vishal Bharadwaj might be having second thoughts.

Haider, starring Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu and Kay Kay Menon, has not been able to build a buzz in the film trade circuit. The music didn't create a buzz neither its trailers.

Also Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bharadwaj have both failed to give hits with their last releases (Phata Poster Nikla Hero or Mathru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola).

Now reports in the film trade circles are that Haider might be postponed to a safer Friday, avoiding a direct contest with Bang Bang.

Here is another angle. UTV Motion Pictures had given a package deal to single screen exhibitors across India where they offered Kick and Haider together. But with Bang Bang creating strong buzz, single screen exhibitors do not want to lose out on major business during the long weekend of October 2, the screen owners are planning a breach of contract.

So for now, postponement of release of Haider is the best chance for this film to get a decent viewing from audiences across India. I mean how many movies can one see on a weekend?
